Abstract Complexes of Co (II) and Ni (II) with dipicolinic acid, 2,6-pyridine dicarboxylic acid (PydcH2) have been synthesized in the NaX (zeolite-X) nanopores. The formation of zeolite X encapsulated Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes ([M(pydcH)2]-NaX, where M = Co(II) and Ni(II]) were confirmed using spectroscopic methods of FT-IR, elemental analysis, XRD, FE-SEM, and TEM. It was affirmed that the encapsulation of complexes in NaX pores was performed without changes in the structure and shape of the zeolite. The oxidative degradation reaction of atenolol with hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant was performed in the presence of synthesized [M(pydcH)2]-NaX nanocomposites to study their catalytic activity. Therefore, oxidation of atenolol was performed under different conditions of catalyst, temperature, and time. Under optimal conditions, catalysts [Co(pydcH)2]-NaX and [Ni(pydcH)2]-NaX showed 82.3% and 71.1% activity of atenolol oxidation, respectively. These catalysts were stable after recovery and were used three more times. The results showed that these catalysts were reusable and had a reduction in the catalytic activity of less than ten percent.

Self-assembled nanobelt photocatalysts with quinacridone containing different alkyl chains as donor and pyridine dicarboxylic acid as acceptor were firstly developed for H2 evolution. SQAP-C4 without cocatalyst of Pt exhibited HER of 656 μmol h−1 g−1.

A new series of four photo-crosslinkable thermotropic liquid crystalline poly(ester amides) were synthesized by direct polycondensation of 2,5-pyridine dicarboxylic acid with two different varying diols and diamines. Two diamines employed in the synthesis were 4,4′-diaminodiphenyl methane and 1,4-diaminobenzene. The arylidene diols 2,5-bis(4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)cyclopentanone and 2,6-bis(4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)cyclohexanone were also used. The synthesized poly(ester amides) were characterized by qualitative solubility test, FT-IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectra. The monomeric moieties were found to be well incorporated in the polymer back bone. The molecular weight of the polymer was assessed by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The thermal phase transition behavior and liquid crystallinity of the poly(ester amides) were investigated by differential thermogravimetry (DTG) and hot stage optical polarized microscopy (HOPM), respectively. Interestingly, these poly(ester amides) in dimethylacetamide were found to possess photo-crosslinking characteristics when irradiated by UV light. These polymeric materials may find utility value in optical information storage devices.
