ABSTRACT Aspergillus flavus is a common saprophyte and opportunistic fungal pathogen that infects plants, animals, and humans. It also produces numerous toxic and nontoxic secondary metabolites. Here, we report the draft genome sequences of 20 A. flavus isolates, belonging to 16 vegetative compatibility groups, from Louisiana corn kernels and cornfield soils.

Photorhabdus bacteria exhibit contrasting lifestyles; they are virulent insect pathogens but symbionts of the entomopathogenic Heterorhabditis nematodes. Photorhabdus genomes encode several secondary metabolites and insecticidal protein toxins.

For their food source, Trachymyrmex septentrionalis ants raise symbiotic fungus gardens that contain bacteria whose functions are poorly understood. Here, we report the genome sequences of eight bacteria isolated from these fungus gardens to better describe the ecology of these strains and their potential to produce secondary metabolites in this niche.

ABSTRACT Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus produce carcinogenic aflatoxins during crop infection, with extensive variations in production among isolates, ranging from atoxigenic to highly toxigenic. Here, we report draft genome sequences of one A. parasiticus isolate and nine A. flavus isolates from field environments for use in comparative, functional, and phylogenetic studies.

ABSTRACTAureobasidium pullulansAY4 is an opportunistic pathogen that was isolated from the skin of an immunocompromised patient. We present here the draft genome of strain AY4, which reveals an abundance of genes relevant to bioindustrial applications, including biocontrol and biodegradation. Putative genes responsible for the pathogenicity of strain AY4 were also identified.

ABSTRACT Two strains of Bacillus, B. cereus E41 and B. anthracis F34, were isolated from a salt lake in Aïn M’lila-Oum El Bouaghi, eastern Algeria, and Ain Baida-Ouargla, southern Algeria, respectively. Their genomes display genes for the production of several bioactive secondary metabolites, including polyhydroxyalkanoate, iron siderophores, lipopeptides, and bacteriocins.

ABSTRACT Draft genomes of 16 isolates of Aspergillus flavus Link and Aspergillus parasiticus Speare, identified as the predominant genotypes colonizing peanuts in four farming regions in Ethiopia, are reported. These data will allow mining for sequences that could be targeted by RNA interference to prevent aflatoxin accumulation in peanut seeds.

Rhodotorula mucilaginosa is an opportunistic fungal pathogen of public health importance. We present the draft genome sequence of an isolate (Rhodo3571) cultured from an immunocompetent patient. The isolate is similar to other R. mucilaginosa genomes in the NCBI database. Presented here are the genome assembly and its comparison to other reference genomes.

ABSTRACT The opportunistic fungal pathogen Scedosporium boydii is the most common Scedosporium species in French patients with cystic fibrosis. Here we present the first genome report for S. boydii, providing a resource which may enable the elucidation of the pathogenic mechanisms in this species.

Here, we report 12 draft genome sequences of mutant Mycolicibacterium smegmatis strains resistant to imidazo[1,2-b][1,2,4,5]tetrazines, which are antituberculosis drug candidates. We have identified 7 different mutations in the MSMEG_1380 gene, which encodes the AcrR/TetR_N transcriptional repressor, which may activate efflux-mediated resistance.
