Pseudomonas sp. strains ALS1279 and ALS1131 were isolated from wastewater treatment facilities on the basis of their ability to use furfural, a key lignocellulose-derived inhibitor, as their only carbon source. Here, we present the draft genome sequences of both strains, which can shed light on catabolic pathways for furan compounds in pseudomonads.

ABSTRACT Hitherto, few species have been reported to convert lactate to n-caproate. Here, we report the high-quality draft genomes of three Clostridia strains isolated on lactate as the sole carbon source. The genomes were assembled using a hybrid short- and long-read sequencing approach. The genes involved in lactate-based chain elongation were identified.

We present here the draft genome sequences of four marine bacterial strains which can use ulvan as their sole carbon source. We used ulvan extracted from the green alga Ulva ohnoi. Each bacterium contains a polysaccharide-utilizing locus, which is necessary for the complete degradation of ulvan.

ABSTRACTCitrobacter braakiiandCitrobacter freundiiare Gram-negative opportunistic pathogens associated with many infectious diseases, including septicemia, in humans and animals. Here, we report the draft genome sequences of sevenC. braakiistrains and oneC. freundiistrain isolated from Canadian wastewater treatment facilities.

Cupriavidus necatorstrain PHE3-6 grows on phenol as a sole carbon source and cometabolizescis-andtrans-dichloroethenes and trichloroethene. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of PHE3-6, which provides insights into the degradation system of phenol and chlorinated ethenes.

ABSTRACT Bacillus megaterium strain O1 was isolated from a soapnut (Sapindus saponaria) surface and degrades Quillaja saponin as a sole carbon source. We report the draft genome sequence of B. megaterium O1, which has an estimated size of 5.1 Mb. Study of this isolate will provide insight into mechanisms of saponin degradation.

ABSTRACT Most antibiotics are derived from the soil, but their catabolism there, which is necessary to close the antibiotic carbon cycle, remains uncharacterized. We report the first draft genome sequences of soil Proteobacteria identified for subsisting solely on β-lactams as their carbon sources. The genomes encode multiple β-lactamases, although their antibiotic catabolic pathways remain enigmatic.

ABSTRACT Isoprene is produced in abundance by plants and constitutes a carbon source for microbes. The genomes of three isoprene degraders isolated from tree leaves or soil from the campus of the University of East Anglia were sequenced. These high-GC-content isolates are actinobacteria belonging to the genus Rhodococcus.

We report the draft genome sequence of Alcaligenes faecalis strain IITR89, a bacterium able to form indigo by utilizing indole as the sole carbon source. The Alcaligenes species is increasingly reported for biodegradation of diverse toxicants and thus complete sequencing may provide insight into biodegradation capabilities and other phenotypes.

We report the draft genome sequence of a strain (OT2-17) of Paenibacillus isolated from the rhizosphere of onions irrigated with triclosan. Strain OT2-17 demonstrated the use of triclosan as the sole carbon source. A genome assembly of approximately 5.8 Mb was generated with a calculated G+C content of 45.5%.
