Purpose of the study: The main purpose of this study is to provide a new, macro-level model of strategic staffing to bridge the gap in the knowledge regarding how practices within recruitment and selection systems can work to provide a competitive advantage among various sectors. This study identifies the various methods of recruitment and selection process through a systematic review of literature, which would be the right fit for attracting and selecting employees in an organization. Design/methodology/approach: Content analysis method is adopted to review the literature and subcategories were formed to analyze the research. Literature was collected from 40 articles of a reputed journal from 2010 to 2018. Main findings: The review of literature revealed that the recruitment and selection process is carried out in organizations by adopting latest technologies like online portals, outsourcing, job fair, campus interviews, and mobile recruitment applications. The representation of this practice is to find the best candidate for an organization. Besides adopting the latest technology, consideration of the expatriate factor would lead to an effective way of recruitment practices in finding out the right candidate for the right job and thus create a healthier work environment. The expatriate factors have not been considered well in the Indian context, but have been given importance in the global context in the process of recruitment and selection. Social Implications: Highlighting the significance of various recruitment practices results in the selection of the right person in the right job, which enhances a healthier working environment in organizations, in turn rendering high quality products and services to the society. Originality of the study: Prior research has studied various factors that influence internal recruitment, external recruitment, and selection process. This study is an attempt to analyze the expatriate factors and other factors through the content analysis method.

In this study, we present a review of public agents’ job satisfaction in Africa between 1990 and 2014. Using the systematic review methodology, we analyse and put in perspective 22 English and French publications on this subject. Results suggest that work environment attributes are the most important antecedents of job satisfaction among African public servants, whereas the effects of personal and work characteristics are marginal. We also found that most of the research dedicated to job satisfaction in Africa relied primarily on theoretical frameworks developed in Western countries. This leads to unexpected results, indicating the need to fit the research models to local specificities. The consequences of job satisfaction in Africa and suggestions for future research are also discussed. Points for practitioners This contribution allows practitioners to obtain an overview of the factors that promote the satisfaction/dissatisfaction of public sector employees in Africa. It helps them identify factors on which to act for the implementation of effective personnel policies geared towards the officials’ performance and welfare. The results suggest paying attention to factors related to the working environment (such as the atmosphere at work, organisational support and working conditions) in order to enhance effectively job satisfaction in African public organisations. However, practices such as the establishment of clear objectives and procedures, autonomy, work content, and the recognition of effort are not to be overlooked.

Abstract Objective Job satisfaction is a positive emotional feeling in the working environment, and it is an essential tool with which to improve patient safety, nurses’ efficiency and performance, quality of care, retention and turnover of nurses, and commitment to the organization and the profession. There are few studies on job satisfaction of nurses in the country. Therefore, this review aims to estimate the pooled prevalence of job satisfaction among Ethiopian nurses using the available studies. Methods This systematic review used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guideline to synthesize the evidence on the prevalence and associated factors of nurses’ job satisfaction. Databases used for searching the included articles from PubMed, Embase, CINHAL, Google Scholar, HINARI, and ScienceDirect. All papers selected for inclusion were subjected to a rigorous appraisal using a standardized critical appraisal checklist (JBI checklist). STATA software (version 11) was used for the analysis, and 95% confidence intervals were calculated. The Cochrane Q test statistics and I2 tests were used to assess the heterogeneity prevailing between the studies. Finally, a random effect model was computed to estimate the pooled prevalence of nurses’ job satisfaction in the country. Results In this review, the data of 1,151 nurses were obtained from six studies. The pooled prevalence of nurses’ job satisfaction was found to be 39.53% (24.52, 54.53). The prevalence of job satisfaction in the Central part of Ethiopia was low: 31.12% (95% CI 5.25, 56.99) compared to the South-Eastern part of Ethiopia’s 48.01% (95% CI 36.51, 59.52). The most common predictors identified were salary (P < 0.05), the leadership of the organization (P < 0.05), and training opportunities (P < 0.05). Conclusions The pooled prevalence of job satisfaction among nurses was found to be low in comparison with global data. The significant predictors for nurses’ job satisfaction are based on the review findings, salary, leadership of organization, and training opportunities.

Background: Burnout syndrome is due to the fatigue felt from work, both physically and mentally. Work fatigue experienced by the health care team, especially the nurses, can threaten patient safety. There needs to be actions or policies put in place to decrease the level of nurse burnout syndrome. Before setting the policies or actions, it is important to know the factors that affect the occurrence of burnout syndrome. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the factors that influence the occurrence and incidence of burnout syndrome.Method: The authors specified the topics and keywords used to search the literature, which in turn allowed for the seeking and obtaining of the appropriate literature criteria. The search found 15 pieces of literature.Result: There are several factors that cause burnout syndrome, but the most common factor in the working environment was the poor working conditions and motivation factors of nursing itself. Conclusion: Based on the results above, we can reduce burnout syndrome with modifications in the working environment or improving the nurse’s motivation through policies, dependent on the institution.

Abstract Background Creation and maintenance of a safe healthy work environment is one part of a nurse’s role. Evidence shows there is a presence of negative behaviors like incivility and violence in the nursing profession. This systematic review and meta-analysis determined the rate of incivility towards nurses and the factors affecting it. Methods All observational studies that primarily investigated the rate of incivility towards nurses were selected regardless of sampling method. The electronic databases “PubMed, Embase, Web of Sciences, Magiran, IranDoc, and Scopus” were searched for studies published during the period of January 1, 1996 to December 31, 2019. The quality of the selected studies was assessed with Hoy’s Critical Assessment Checklist. The study was undertaken using the random effects model. Data were analyzed with STATA14. Results Data on 61 articles, including data on 30801 individuals that were published during 1997–2019, entered the study. Prevalence of incivility was 50.10% (95%, CI: 48.05, 62.06). Conclusion Given the highly important role of nurses in care-giving, they deserve to have a safe working environment similar to other work milieus.

Purpose The building sector of the construction industry incorporates a precipitous and volatile nature with poor safety conditions being prevalent, owing to its inability to determine an appropriate trade-off between productivity and safety. This disproportionate trade-off produces production pressures, which contribute poorly to construction performance, by encouraging workers to prioritise their working productivity ahead of safety. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impacts of production pressures in the building sector and propose mitigation strategies accordingly. Design/methodology/approach A systematic review of literature was conducted, and secondary data were extracted from peer-reviewed journal papers. The data was then analysed to achieve the objectives of this study. Findings The main causes of production pressures are tight construction schedules, ineffective management and construction rework. Furthermore, the negative effects of production pressures are increased levels of stress in employees, reduced craftsmanship, encouraging accident-prone environments and decreasing employee’s safety behaviour. Effective mitigation strategies in relation to scheduling, leadership, communication and motivation were proposed. Finally, a causal loop diagram of production pressures in the building sector was developed. Originality/value This research will assist in creating a safer working environment within the building sector, by providing useful information regarding the severity of production pressures and suggesting mitigation strategies that can be implemented in the construction projects.
