With the use of a stereographic projection of momentum space into a four-dimensional sphere of unit radius, the possibility of analytical solution of the three-dimensional two-body Lippmann–Schwinger equation with the Coulomb interaction at negative energy has been studied. Simple analytical expressions for the three-dimensional Coulomb transition matrix in the case of the repulsive Coulomb interaction and positive integer values of the Coulomb parameter have been obtained. The worked out method has also been applied to the generalized three-dimensional Coulomb transition matrix in the case of the attractive Coulomb interaction and negative integer values of the Coulomb parameter.

The immobility of the center of mass in spaces of constant curvature is postulated based on its definition obtained in [1]. The system of two particles which interact through a potential depending only on the distance between particles on a three-dimensional sphere is considered. The Hamilton-Jacobi equation is formulated and its solutions and trajectory equations are found. It was established that the reduced mass of the system depends on the relative distance.

In the paper a theoretical study the both the quantized energies of excitonic states and their wave functions in grapheneand in materials with "Mexican hat" band structure dispersion as well as in zinc-blende GaN is presented. An integral twodimensionalSchrödinger equation of the electron-hole pairing for a particles with electron-hole symmetry of reflection isexactly solved. The solutions of Schrödinger equation in momentum space in studied materials by projection the twodimensionalspace of momentum on the three-dimensional sphere are found exactly. We analytically solve an integral twodimensionalSchrödinger equation of the electron-hole pairing for particles with electron-hole symmetry of reflection. Instudied materials the electron-hole pairing leads to the exciton insulator states. Quantized spectral series and lightabsorption rates of the excitonic states which distribute in valence cone are found exactly. If the electron and hole areseparated, their energy is higher than if they are paired. The particle-hole symmetry of Dirac equation of layered materialsallows perfect pairing between electron Fermi sphere and hole Fermi sphere in the valence cone and conduction cone andhence driving the Cooper instability. The solutions of Coulomb problem of electron-hole pair does not depend from a widthof band gap of graphene. It means the absolute compliance with the cyclic geometry of diagrams at justification of theequation of motion for a microscopic dipole of graphene where >1 s r . The absorption spectrums for the zinc-blendeGaN/(Al,Ga)N quantum well as well as for the zinc-blende bulk GaN are presented. Comparison with availableexperimental data shows good agreement.

To simulate echoes from the earth’s surface in the low flight mode, it is necessary to reproduce reliably the delayed reflected sounding signal of the radar in real time. For this, it is necessary to be able to calculate accurately and quickly the dependence of the distance to the object being measured from the angular position of the line of sight of the radar station. Obviously, the simplest expressions for calculating the range can be obtained for a segment or a plane. In the text of the article, analytical expressions for the calculation of range for two-dimensional and three-dimensional cases are obtained. Methods of statistical physics, vector algebra, and the theory of the radar of extended objects were used. Since the calculation of the dependence of the range of the object to the target from the angular position of the line of sight is carried out on the analytical expressions found in the paper, the result obtained is accurate, and due to the relative simplicity of the expressions obtained, the calculation does not require much time.

A numerical study of the effect of betatron oscillations on the second harmonic generation in free-electron lasers (FELs) is presented. Analytical expressions for the effective coupling strength factors are derived that clearly distinguish all contributions in subharmonics and each polarization of the radiation. A three-dimensional time-dependent numerical FEL code that takes into account the main FEL effects and the individual contribution of each electron to the second harmonic generation is presented. Also, the X- and Y-polarizations of the second harmonic are analyzed. The second harmonic was detected in experiments at the Advanced Photon Source (APS) Low Energy Undulator Test Line (LEUTL) and Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) in the soft X-ray regime. The approach presented in the article can be useful for a comprehensive study and diagnostics of XFELs. In the paper, the LCLS and Pohang Accelerator Laboratory X-ray Free-Electron Laser (PAL-XFEL) experiments are modeled. The simulation results are in a good agreement with the experimental data.

AbstractWhile conducting analysis related to a DARPA-funded project to evaluate possible structure of the energy density present in a Casimir cavity as predicted by the dynamic vacuum model, a micro/nano-scale structure has been discovered that predicts negative energy density distribution that closely matches requirements for the Alcubierre metric. The simplest notional geometry being analyzed as part of the DARPA-funded work consists of a standard parallel plate Casimir cavity equipped with pillars arrayed along the cavity mid-plane with the purpose of detecting a transient electric field arising from vacuum polarization conjectured to occur along the midplane of the cavity. An analytic technique called worldline numerics was adapted to numerically assess vacuum response to the custom Casimir cavity, and these numerical analysis results were observed to be qualitatively quite similar to a two-dimensional representation of energy density requirements for the Alcubierre warp metric. Subsequently, a toy model consisting of a 1 $$\upmu $$ μ m diameter sphere centrally located in a 4 $$\upmu $$ μ m diameter cylinder was analyzed to show a three-dimensional Casimir energy density that correlates well with the Alcubierre warp metric requirements. This qualitative correlation would suggest that chip-scale experiments might be explored to attempt to measure tiny signatures illustrative of the presence of the conjectured phenomenon: a real, albeit humble, warp bubble.

Abstract We study Bose-Einstein condensation of comparatively small numbers of atoms trapped by a three-dimensional harmonic oscillator potential. Under the assumption that grand canonical statistics applies, we derive analytical expressions for the condensation temperature, the ground state occupation, and the specific heat capacity. For a gas of TV atoms the condensation temperature is proportional to N1/3, apart from a downward shift of order N-1/3. A signature of the condensation is a pronounced peak of the heat capacity. For not too small N the heat capacity is nearly discontinuous at the onset of condensation; the magnitude of the jump is about 6.6 N k. Our continuum approximations are derived with the help of the proper density of states which allows us to calculate finite-AT-corrections, and checked against numerical computations.

We discuss a full three-dimensional model of an ultra-small MOSFET, in which the transport is treated by a coupled EMC and molecular dynamics (MD) procedure to treat the Coulomb interaction in real space. The inclusion of the proper Coulomb interaction affects both the energy and momentum relaxation processes, but also has a dramatic effect on the characteristic curves of the device. We find that the short-range e–e and e–i terms, combined with discrete impurity effects, is also needed for accurate measurement of the device threshold voltage.
