Nonlinear response coeffcients of higher-order vn anisotropy harmonics for charged particles, as a function of transverse momentum (pT) and collision centrality, are measured in PbPb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 and 5.02 TeV. The nonlinear response coefficients are obtained using vn harmonics measured with respect to their own plane and the mixed harmonics. Using a fine splitting between v2{4} and v2{6} cumulants, the centrality dependence of the elliptic flow skewness is measured at 5.02 TeV PbPb collisions. The CMS also measured the v2 and v3 anisotropy harmonics of charged particles and prompt D0 mesons at |y| ≤ 1 as a function of pT and centrality in PbPb data at √sNN = 5.02 TeV collected with the CMS detector. Prompt D0 mesons, formed from the c quarks produced via initial hard scatterings, are separated up to a high extent from nonprompt D0 mesons emerged from decays of b hadrons. The results indicate that the charm quarks interact strongly with the QGP medium. Comparisons between theoretical models and data provide new constraints on the initial-state conditions and the interaction between charm quarks and the QGP medium.

Abstract Systematic studies of charge-dependent two- and three-particle correlations in Pb-Pb collisions at $$ \sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} $$ s NN = 2.76 and 5.02 TeV used to probe the Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME) are presented. These measurements are performed for charged particles in the pseudorapidity (η) and transverse momentum (pT) ranges |η| < 0.8 and 0.2 < pT< 5 GeV/c. A significant charge-dependent signal that becomes more pronounced for peripheral collisions is reported for the CME-sensitive correlators γ1, 1 = 〈cos(φα + φβ − 2Ψ2)〉 and γ1, − 3 = 〈cos(φα − 3φβ + 2Ψ2)〉. The results are used to estimate the contribution of background effects, associated with local charge conservation coupled to anisotropic flow modulations, to measurements of the CME. A blast-wave parametrisation that incorporates local charge conservation tuned to reproduce the centrality dependent background effects is not able to fully describe the measured γ1,1. Finally, the charge and centrality dependence of mixed-harmonics three-particle correlations, of the form γ1, 2 = 〈cos(φα + 2φβ − 3Ψ3)〉, which are insensitive to the CME signal, verify again that background contributions dominate the measurement of γ1,1.

In this paper, we consider classical electrodynamic theories with maximal acceleration and some of their phenomenological consequences for laser–plasma acceleration. It is shown that in a recently proposed higher-order jet theory of electrodynamics, the maximal effective acceleration reachable by a consistent bunch of point-charged particles being accelerated by the wakefield is damped for bunches containing large number of charged particles. We argue that such a prediction of the theory is falsifiable. In the case of Born–Infeld kinematics, laser–plasma acceleration phenomenology provides an upper bound for the Born–Infeld parameter b. Improvements in the beam qualities will imply stronger constraints on b.

These proceedings summarise the first measurements of anisotropic flow coefficients v n , 2 ≤ n ≤ 4 , for inclusive charged particles at mid-rapidity in Xe–Xe collisions at s NN = 5 . 44 TeV . The results are compared with those from Pb–Pb collisions at s NN = 5 . 02 TeV , in order to test the initial state (IS) models and transport properties. The resulting differences in v 2 and v 3 between the two systems are consistent with two different hydrodynamical models. Moreover, it is expected that the ratios between v n and their corresponding eccentricities for n = 2 , 3 scale with transverse density. This is observed for some IS models, except for some deviations in central collisions. These results assist in constraining the initial state as well as the hydrodynamical propagation of the system.
