AbstractWe extend previous works on the study of a particle subject to a three-dimensional spherical singular potential including a $$\delta $$ δ –$$\delta '$$ δ ′ contact interaction. In this case, to have a more realistic model, we add a Coulombic term to a finite well and a radial $$\delta $$ δ –$$\delta '$$ δ ′ contact interaction just at the edge of the well, which is where the surface of the nucleus would be. We first prove that the we are able to define the contact potential by matching conditions for the radial function, fixing a self-adjoint extension of the non-singular Hamiltonian. With these matching conditions, we are able to find analytic solutions of the wave function and focus the analysis on the bound state structure characterizing and computing the number of bound states. For this approximation for a mean-field Woods–Saxon model, the Coulombic term enables us to complete the previous study for neutrons analyzing the proton energy levels in some doubly magic nuclei. In particular, we find the appropriate $$\delta '$$ δ ′ contribution fitting the available data for the neutron- and proton-level schemes of the nuclei $${}^{{208}}$$ 208 Pb, $${}^{{40}}$$ 40 Ca, and $${}^{{16}}$$ 16 O.

ABSTRACTIntersubband transitions in the spectral range of 1.37-2.90 °Cm is observed in molecular beam epitaxy grown Si-doped GaN/AlN multiple quantum wells using a Fourier-transform spectroscopy technique. A blue shift in the peak position of the intersubband transition is observed as the well width is decreased. A sample with a well width in the order of 2.4 nm exhibited the presence of three bound states in the GaN well. The bound state energy levels are calculated using a transfer matrix method. An electrochemical capacitance voltage technique is used to obtain the three dimensional carrier concentrations in these samples which further enable the calculation of the Fermi energy level position. Devices fabricated from these GaN/AlN quantum wells are found to operate in the photovoltaic mode.

We present the exact solution of the Klein–Gordon equation in D-dimensions in the presence of the equal scalar and vector pseudoharmonic potential plus the ring-shaped potential using the Nikiforov–Uvarov method. We obtain the exact bound state energy levels and the corresponding eigen functions for a spin-zero particles. We also find that the solution for this ring-shaped pseudoharmonic potential can be reduced to the three-dimensional (3D) pseudoharmonic solution once the coupling constant of the angular part of the potential becomes zero.

We use the Lanczos method to calculate the variance σ2(E, ϕ) of the number of energy levels in an energy window of width E below the Fermi energy for noninteracting disordered electrons on a thin three-dimensional ring threaded by an Aharonov–Bohm flux ϕ. We confirm numerically that for small E the flux-dependent part of σ2(E, ϕ) is well described by the Altshuler–Shklovskii-diagram involving two Cooperons. However, in the absence of electron–electron interactions this result cannot be extrapolated to energies E where the energy-dependence of the average density of states becomes significant. We discuss consequences for persistent currents and argue that for the calculation of the difference between the canonical- and grand canonical current it is crucial to take the electron–electron interaction into account.

We investigate the influence of retardation effects on covariant 3-dimensional wave functions for bound hadrons. Within a quark-(scalar) diquark representation of a baryon, the four-dimensional Bethe–Salpeter equation is solved for a 1-rank separable kernel which simulates Coulombic attraction and confinement. We project the manifestly covariant bound state wave function into three dimensions upon integrating out the non-static energy dependence and compare it with solutions of three-dimensional quasi-potential equations obtained from different kinematical projections on the relative energy variable. We find that for long-range interactions, as characteristic in QCD, retardation effects in bound states are of crucial importance.

We present a simple algorithm for computing the acoustic response of a layered structure containing three‐dimensional (3-D) irregularities, using a locked‐mode approach and the Born approximation. The effects of anelasticity are incorporated by use of Rayleigh’s principle. The method is particularly attractive at somewhat larger offsets, but computations for near‐source offsets are stable as well, due to the introduction of anelastic damping. Calculations can be done on small minicomputers. The algorithm developed in this paper can be used to calculate the response of complicated models in three dimensions. It is more efficient than any other method whenever many sources are involved. The results are useful for modeling, as well as for generating test signals for data processing with realistic, model‐induced “noise.” Also, this approach provides an alternative to 2-D finite‐difference calculations that is efficient enough for application to large‐scale inverse problems. The method is illustrated by application to a simple 3-D structure in a layered medium.

We study the analogue of the Aharonov–Bohm effect for bound states for a neutral particle with a permanent magnetic dipole moment interacting with an external field. We consider a neutral particle confined to moving between two coaxial cylinders and show the dependence of the energy levels on the Aharonov-Casher quantum flux. Moreover, we show that the same flux dependence of the bound states can be found when the neutral particle is confined to a one-dimensional quantum ring and a quantum dot, and we also calculate the persistent currents in each case.

A systematic discussion of the probability of eta and KL bound-state decays—[Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text](l=e, μ)—within a three-dimensional reduction to the two-body quantum field theory is presented. The bound-state vertex function depends on the relative momentum of constituent-like particles. A structure-transition form factor is defined by a confinement-type quark-antiquark wave function. The phenomenology of this kind of decays is analyzed.

We investigate the dynamics of a composite system ([Formula: see text]) consisting of an interacting fermion–antifermion pair in the three-dimensional space–time background generated by a static point source. By considering the interaction between the particles as Dirac oscillator coupling, we analyze the effects of space–time topology on the energy of such a [Formula: see text]. To achieve this, we solve the corresponding form of a two-body Dirac equation (fully-covariant) by assuming the center-of-mass of the particles is at rest and locates at the origin of the spatial geometry. Under this assumption, we arrive at a nonperturbative energy spectrum for the system in question. This spectrum includes spin coupling and depends on the angular deficit parameter [Formula: see text] of the geometric background. This provides a suitable basis to determine the effects of the geometric background on the energy of the [Formula: see text] under consideration. Our results show that such a [Formula: see text] behaves like a single quantum oscillator. Then, we analyze the alterations in the energy levels and discuss the limits of the obtained results. We show that the effects of the geometric background on each energy level are not same and there can be degeneracy in the energy levels for small values of the [Formula: see text].

In the present work, an analytical solution for bound states of the modified Schrödinger equation is found for the new supposed combined Manning-Rosen potential plus the Yukawa class. To overcome the difficulties arising in the case l ≠ 0 in the centrifugal part of the Manning-Rosen potential plus the Yukawa class for bound states, we applied the developed approximation. Analytical expressions for the energy eigenvalue and the corresponding radial wave functions for an arbitrary value l ≠ 0 of the orbital quantum number are obtained. And also obtained eigenfunctions expressed in terms of hypergeometric functions. It is shown that energy levels and eigenfunctions are very sensitive to the choice of potential parameters.
