By the application of the duality transformation, which implies interchange of active and passive electric parts of the Riemann curvature (equivalent to interchanging Ricci and Einstein tensors), it is shown that the global monopole solution in the Kaluza–Klein space–time is dual to the corresponding vacuum solution. Further we also obtain solution dual to flat space which would in general describe a massive global monopole in four-dimensional Euclidean space and would have massless limit analogous to the four-dimensional dual-flat solution.

The property and gravitational field of global monopole of tachyon are investigated in a four-dimensional static space–time. We give an exact solution of the tachyon field in the flat space–time background. Using the linearized approximation of gravity, we get the approximate solution of the metric. We also solve analytically the coupled Einstein and tachyon field equations which is beyond the linearized approximation to determine the gravitational properties of the monopole solution. We find that the metric of tachyon monopole represents an asymptotically AdS space–time with a small effective mass at the origin. We show that this relatively tiny mass is actually negative, as it is in the case of ordinary scalar field.

By resolving the gravitational field into electric and magnetic parts, we define an electrogravity duality transformation and discover an interesting property of the field. Under the duality transformation, a vacuum/flat space–time maps into the original space–time with a topological defect of global monopole/texture. The electrogravity-duality is thus a topological defect generating process. It turns out that all black hole solutions possess dual solutions that imbibe a global monopole.

We prove that both global monopole and minimally coupled static zero mass scalar field are electrogravity dual of the Schwarzschild solution or flat space and they share the same equation of state, [Formula: see text]. This property was however known for the global monopole space–time while it is for the first time being established for the scalar field. In particular, it turns out that the Xanthopoulos–Zannias scalar field solution is dual to flat space.

We present a Petrov type II general space–time which violates causality in the sense that it allows for the formation of closed timelike curves that appear after a definite instant of time. The metric, which is axially symmetric, admits an expansion-free, twist-free and shear-free null geodesic congruence. From the general metric, we obtain two particular type II metrics. One is a vacuum solution while the other represents a Ricci flat solution with a negative cosmological constant.

We present a Kaluza-Klein vacuum solution which closely resembles the Taub-NUT magnetic monopole and we investigate its physical properties as viewed from four space-time dimensions. We show that the Taub-NUT Kaluza-Klein vacuum solution in five dimensions is a static magnetic monopole. We find that the four dimensional matter properties do not obey the equation of state of radiation and there is no event horizon. A comparison with the available magnetic monopole solutions and the issue of vanishing and negative mass are discussed.
