Cyber-Physical System (CPS) is a kind of large-scale and networked system that has drawn much attention in academia recently. Existing studies provide the extent for CPS research, but a systematic and extensive review of recent research on CPS is missing. Accordingly, this paper reviews 83 papers regarding theoretical foundations for CPS from 2012 to 2017 in the Scopus database aiming to provide scholars and practitioners with a comprehensive overview. The selected papers are grouped into 10 research categories. The contents of the papers in each research category are summarized. The challenges and research trends are illustrated as well.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to review the current research on theoretical foundations and applications for CPS from 2017 to 2019 including the applications in library. Design/methodology/approach This paper is designed in six parts as Introduction, Literature review, Theoretical foundations of CPS, Applications of CPS, CPS’s application in library and Conclusion. The authors review 70 papers and classify them as the above six parts. The authors collected 70 papers from 2017 to 2019 in the academic databases. Findings This paper reviews 70 papers regarding theoretical foundations and applications for CPS from 2017 to 2019 in the academic databases aiming to provide scholars and practitioners with a comprehensive overview. The contents of the papers in each research category are summarized from theoretical foundations and applications including the CPS applications in library. Originality/value A main contribution of this review paper is that it summarizes the current state-of-the-art theoretical foundations and applications for CPS and in libraries systematically.

Recently, there has been an explosive growth in the development and implementation of various Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). Accordingly, CPS-related research and advancements in CPS technologies have increasingly been part of the emerging trends in IT areas such as Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, cloud computing, and Industry 4.0. However, there are only a few research efforts that identify the comprehensive CPS research trends relevant to the emerging IT trends. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to explore what CPS research topics are related to the emerging IT trends and to investigate how industries have implemented CPS technologies.

In recent years there has been a significant amount of research into systems that can tightly integrate physical with virtual components. This research has been concentrated in two fields: Internet of Things and Cyber Physical Systems and has been mainly driven by the possible future applications that a large-scale integration of the physical and cyber world will enable. The authors propose a generic system architecture for Cyber Intelligent Enterprise by taking into account the considered roles of a cyber-physical system.

Cyber-Physical System (CPS), a new generation of digital system, mainly focuses on complex interdependencies and integration between cyberspace and physical world. A CPS is composed of highly-integrated computation, communication, control, and physical elements. CPS is currently of interest in academia, industry, and government. However, a systematic and extensive review of research on CPS is not available. As such, this paper conducts an expanded literature review on applications of CPS by examining existing literatures from 2012 to 2017 in Scopus database. Specifically, 77 papers studying applications of CPS are grouped into 10 categories and reviewed. The contents of the papers in each research category are summarized. The challenges and trends of research on CPS are illustrated as well.

Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) will revolutionize how humans relate with the physical world around us. Many grand challenges await the economically vital domains of transportation, health-care, manufacturing, agriculture, energy, defence, aerospace and buildings. Exploration of these potentialities around space and time would create applications which would affect societal and economic benefit. This paper looks into the concept of emerging Cyber-Physical system, applications and security issues in sustaining development in various economic sectors; outlining a set of strategic Research and Development opportunities that should be accosted, so as to allow upgraded CPS to attain their potential and provide a wide range of societal advantages in the future.

The analysis of the concept of Open-Science Space is carried out. The existence of ways to achieve reproducibility and traceability of research results performed by a group of worldwide situated Cyber-physical system operators/supervisors is shown. Ways to ensure the efficient operation of Cyber-physical systems as complex technological nondemountable objects with high requirements for metrological characteristics have been studied. To develop the scattered cyberphysical systems, the portable stable-in-time code-controlled measures of physical quantities have been studied. They have to be metrologically confirmed in the laboratory before the delivery to the site of the measuring subsystem for its calibration.
