The application of technology in various aspects of life has made it easy for many people. However, there are also shortcomings in the use of technology, one of which is security issues, both transactions and data. Given these issues in this paper, we propose blockchain technology for an authentication system that will protect data rights and interests and be safe from interference to store information in the form of confidential text, especially in the application of technology in education. From this writing, there are 2 benefits, the first is that all data stored in the education system is guaranteed and there will be increased trust from both parents, teachers and other parties due to the decentralized nature of blockchain.

Recently, blockchain technology has gained considerable attention from researchers and practitioners. This is mainly due to its unique features including decentralization, security, reliability, and data integrity. Despite this growing interest, little is known about the current state of knowledge and practice regarding the use of blockchain technology in education. This article is a systematic review of research investigating blockchain-based educational applications. It focuses on three main themes: (1) educational applications that have been developed with blockchain technology, (2) benefits that blockchain technology could bring to education, and (3) challenges of adopting blockchain technology in education. A detailed results analysis of each theme was conducted as well as an intensive discussion based on the findings. This review also offers insight into other educational areas that could benefit from blockchain technology.

The challenge that has often occurred in recent years is making access to education using a different learning process path. The presence of technology now provides solutions to problems that often occur such as communication, accessing information, and business or cooperation. Blockchain is a technology that develops an evaluation model for itineraries in the learning process, both individually and in bulk. Currently the Edublocs project has been designed and implemented, which combines elements of peer-to-peer learning and the teaching team. The aim of the Edublocs project is to simplify the process of designing and implementing a system for recording activity results through blockchain technology. This ongoing project is in the process of evaluation. Conforming to some design elements as well as experimental implementation in the context of higher education enables us to further indicate the sustainability and relevance of the application of blockchain technology in education.

The development of the education sector, especially the University at this time in Indonesia became the main focus of the government, the University was driven to become a leading university not only in the national scale but globally. The graduates of the university became an interesting topic to study because there is a gap between the Education and industry as a graduate user. Blockchain technology now is not only for cryptocurrency, but many researches nowadays believe that Blockchain technology can provide more benefits for universities Several studies mention Blockchain Technology can help in preventing fake diplomas certificate, libraries for borrowing books, and student loans. Those researches are still separated into several resources, so it is difficult to consolidate the benefits and challenges of using the Technology blockchain for universities. Therefore, this exploratory research tries to look for open problems, recent trends of the benefits and challenges of blockchain technology research in education sector as well as looking blockchain technology influence on the important elements in universities, such as people, process, and technology. This research will be conducted using a systematic method by reviewing literature from 9 well-known publishers such as (ACM, SAGE, IEEExplore, Taylor and Francis, Science Direct, Wiley, MDPI, AISEL, and Scopus index) to get a complete picture of blockchain technology in university. The study found the benefits and challenges of using Blockchain Technology and 70% of the important factors is on technology, 15% on people and 50% on processes.

Purpose This paper aims to provide a systematic literature review on blockchain technology in education to offer a detailed understanding of the present scenario in terms of benefits, barriers, present blockchain technology application and future areas where blockchain technology can be implemented in the other fields of education. Design/methodology/approach A bibliometric analysis is conducted on for data in the publications, journals, authors and citations were collected, and examined by applying bibliometric measures. The data was collected from SCOPUS database on the topic “Blockchain Technology in Education”. The following research questions guided this systematic literature review (SLR: How blockchain technology has been defined in educational settings? How were the technology examined (i.e. the methodology)? What were the results of using this technology in an education system? Findings The study identifies the benefits, barriers and present application of blockchain technology in education. The analysis shows that blockchain technology in education is still a young discipline, but has a lot of potential to benefits the educational sector at large. Practical implications This research provides a groundwork for education institutions, the policymakers and researchers to explore other areas where blockchain technology can be implemented, though this research has also suggested some prospective uses of blockchain technology in different functions of an education system, more application can be brought into the education system to exploit the potential of blockchain technology. Originality/value The paper discusses the application of blockchain technology in education with the help of bibliometric analysis. This is one of the first known studies to review the blockchain technology by identifying its benefits, barriers, present blockchain technology application. Based on the analysis, future application areas are also identified.
