Two actions of the Public Health Service have been cited by Dr Kendig1 as serving "to minimize the seriousness" of the tuberculosis problem in American children. These are the discouragement of routine tuberculin testing in this country and the change in counting tuberculosis cases which was instituted in 1975. In correspondence which I have had with Dr Kendig, we have agreed on our mutual commitment to eradication of tuberculosis in children. I do not think he intended to suggest that the Public Health Service is not concerned about tuberculosis in children.
