The Chir Pine,Pinus roxburghii, named after William Roxburgh, is a pine native to the Himalaya.Pinus roxburghiiSarg. (Pinaceae) is traditionally used for several medicinal purposes in India. As the oil of the plant is extensively used in number of herbal preparation for curing inflammatory disorders, the present study was undertaken to assess analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities of its bark extract. Dried and crushed leaves ofPinus roxburghiiSarg. were defatted with petroleum ether and then extracted with alcohol. The alcoholic extract at the doses of 100 mg/kg, 300 mg/kg, and 500 mg/kg body weight was subjected to evaluation of analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities in experimental animal models. Analgesic activity was evaluated by acetic acid-induced writhing and tail immersion tests in Swiss albino mice; acute and chronic anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated by carrageenan-induced paw oedema and cotton pellet granuloma in Wistar albino rats. Diclofenac sodium and indomethacin were employed as reference drugs for analgesic and anti-inflammatory studies, respectively. In the present study, the alcoholic bark extract ofPinus roxburghiiSarg. demonstrated significant analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities in the tested models.

The anti-inflammatory activity of hydroxytriazenes as well as their vanadium complexes has been studied using carrageenan induced hind paw oedema method in albino rats (Wister strain). Hydroxytriazenesviz., 3-hydroxy-1,3-diphenyltriazene(HT-1), 3-hydroxy-3-phenyl-1-(4-sulfonamido)phenyl triazene(HT-2), 3-hydroxy-3-p-chlorophenyl-1-(4-sulfonamido) phenyltriazene(HT-3), 3-hydroxy-3-m-chlorophenyl-1-(4-sulfonamido)phenyltriazene(HT-4)(HT-4) and their respective vanadium complexes C-1, C-2, C-3 and C-4 have been synthesized using standard methods, purified, characterized and used for studying their anti-inflammatory activities. The hind paw oedema was produced by subplanter injection of carrageenan and the paw volume was measured plethysmographically after 0.5, 1, 2, 3 and 5 h. The animals were givenHT-1, HT-2, HT-3andHT-4and also vanadium complexes C-1, C-2, C-3 and C-4 dissolved inDMSO(at dose 5 mg/Kg body weight). Diclofenac sodium (5 mg/kg) was used as a standard drug. The standard drug shows maximum inibition up to 1h as 81.73% which goes on increasing up to 3h (88.94%) but further reduces to 74.93% at the end of 5 h. The test compounds i.e. both ligands as well as their metal complexes show maximum percent inhibition only up to 1h. after which the efficacy reduces. Thus it can be said that both ligands as well as their vanadium complexes show very significant anti-inflammatory activity up to 1h which is comparable to standard drug.

Background: Calotropis gigantea is a well-documented traditional medicinal plant useful for many disease conditions. The present study deals with the effect of alcoholic extract of roots bark of Calotropis gigantean in some animal models. Methods: Acute anti-inflammatory activity of root extract was assessed on carrageenin induced paw edema and chronic antiinflammatory activity on cotton pellet granuloma formation in rats and compared with standard diclofenac sodium. Antiasthmatic activity was assessed in histamine and actylcholine induced bronchoconstriction in guinea pigs. Results: 100 and 200 mg/kg p.o. root extract of CG showed significant anti-inflammatory and bronchodilator activity. Antiinflammatory activity was higher than Diclofenac Sodium 50mg/kg. The combination of low dose diclofenac sodium 25mg/kg potentiated the effect. Inhibitory effect on synthesis and release of various inflammatory mediators might contribute to both of these actions. Steroid like phytoconstituents might be responsible for these effects. Further research is needed to understand the exact mechanism behind these effects. Conclusions: In the present study Calotropis gigantea root bark exhibited anti-inflammatory activity in animal models.

C. serratum and S. xanthocarpum plants are used as folk remedies for inflammations, arthritis, cough, asthma and bronchitis. The present investigation aimed to evaluate the comparative anti-inflammatory activity in Wistar albino rats. The group specific rats were treated for seven consecutive days and subjected to carrageenan induced paw oedema and cotton pellet implanted granuloma tissue formation tests at a dose of 8.64ml/kg (p.o). Both the test drugs have shown reduced paw volume during third and sixth hour readings and a moderate decrease in the granuloma tissue formation. CRP enzyme was found to be reduced significantly and a moderate elevation in white pulp of spleen from both the test groups were observed. The present findings suggest that both the drugs have moderate anti-inflammatory activity as ascertained by the comparative decrease in carrageenan induced paw volume, decreased granuloma tissue formation and normal histological profile of important organs.

Medicinal plants are play significant impact in the personal medicine for most of the people all over the world as an alternative live saving medicines and most of their medicinal properties are well known for anticancer activity. The different extracts of Holoptelea integrifolia (H.integrifolia) leaves, stem bark and fruits were studied as a potent natural source of antimicrobial, antioxidant and wound healing potential. This work was carried out to evaluate antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of different extracts of H.integrifolia. The antimicrobial activity of the H.integrifolia ethanolic extract was studied against five fungal and bacterial strains by utilizing the agar well diffusion method and MIC. Among several strain, the ethanolic extract of fruit has shown higher antimicrobial inhibition zone as 9.25-16 mm compare to other two extracts of stem and leaves as 10- 13.25 mm and 6-10.2 mm respectively. The antioxidant activities for different extract were also determined by DPPH free radical assay, Hydroxyl Radical Scavenging and Nitric Oxide Radical Scavenging Activity method. The anti-inflammatory activity also estimated basedon formalin induced paw edema method on Wistar albino rats. The different extracts of leaves, stem bark and fruit parts of Holoptelea integrifolia were estimated for in vivo anti-inflammatory activity against the animal model of female Wistar albino rats. The results of anti-inflammatory activity revealed that the Ethanol extracts showed vital and dose-dependent anti-inflammatory effects. Our findings revealed that aerial parts of H.integrifolia contais potential antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds, which expose the medicinal potential of the selected plant could be a significant drug candidates against microbial, oxidative and inflammation-related pathological processes as a future alternative medicine.

Background: The antipyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities of two concentrations (100 and 200 mg/kg) of ethanolic extract of leaf, bark, flower and fruit pulp of C. fistula were determined in male wistar albino rats. Methods: Antipyretic activity was assessed by E. coli endotoxin induced pyrexia. Analgesic activity was assessed by hot plate, tail immersion and acetic acid induced writhing test. Anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated by carrageenan-induced rat paw edema assay. Result: Significant (p less than 0.05) antipyretic activity was exhibited from 2h onwards by bark extract @ 200 mg/kg and from 3h onwards by bark extract @100 mg/kg and leaves extract @ 200mg/kg as compared to control group. Significant (p less than 0.05) analgesic activity was shown by extract of bark @ 200 mg/kg as it is evident by increase in reflex time in hot plate (90,120,180 min), tail immersion test (120,180 min) and inhibition of writhing (32.12%). Significant (p less than 0.05) anti-inflammatory activity was exhibited from 3h post administration by bark @ 200 and leaves @ 100 and 200 mg/kg.

Objective: This study aims to perform phytochemical screening and investigate anti-inflammatory activity of extract from aerial part of the plant Plantago major L.Methods: Preliminary phytochemical screening of plant extract was carried out using standard qualitative procedures and anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated using carrageenan-induced paw edema model in male Wistar albino rats using plethysmometer. Diclofenac sodium (10 mg/kg, b.w.) was used as standard drug. Results: Preliminary phytochemical screening of the different extracts revealed that they were rich in secondary metabolite compounds such as carbohydrates, tannins, steroids, flavonoids, terpenoids, glycosides, fats and oils, alkaloids, phenolic compounds, and iridoid glycosides. The anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated using carrageenan-induced paw edema models in Wistar albino rats. The anti-inflammatory activity of methanolic extract (ME) was found to be dose dependent in carrageenan-induced paw edema model. The ME has shown significant (p<0.05) inhibition of paw edema, 61.11% and 55.55% on 4th hr at the doses of 900 and 600 mg/kg, respectively. Conclusion: The results of the present study demonstrate that ME of the aerial parts of the plant possess significant (p<0.05) anti-inflammatory potential.
