Allelopathic effects of the donor plants are mostly regarded as harmful to target plants such as traditional crops. Traditional crops play pivotal role as staple food for rural communities and hence ensuring food security. Study of the allelopathic effects of Androstachys johnsonii Prain on the germination and growth of Zea mays L. and Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc was conducted. Different plant leachates concentrations of 0.675%, 1.25%, 2.5% and 5% were prepared through serial dilutions. Germination bioassays were arranged in a complete randomized setup of three replicates for each treatment for seven days. Germination rates were calculated, radicle and hypocotyl lengths were also measured. Germination rates of Z. mays L. and V. subterranea (L.) Verdc. ranged from 50 - 100% and 18 - 76%, respectively. Significant differences of P< 0.005 were noticed from the germination rates of V. subterranea (L.) Verdc subjected to high concentrations of different extracts used. Statistically there was no significant differences between germination rates of Z. mays L. treated with all concentrations of leaf leachates against germination rates of the seeds treated with distilled water. Outstandingly, the germination rate and early growth of Z. mays L. were promoted by less concentrated extracts of leaf, root, stem bark and soil which then suggest future use of allelochemicals from Androstachys johnsonii Prain for promotion of maize plant productions. Based on the beneficial attributes of allelochemicals from Androstachys johnsonii on the germination and growth of Z. mays L., planting of Androstachys johnsonii Prain in maize fields is highly recommended.

Thirteen compounds (<b>1</b>‒<b>13</b>) were isolated and identified during phytochemical analysis of the leaves and stem bark of <i>Guibourtia ehie</i> (A. Chev) J. Leonard. Spectroscopic and spectrometric methods and the comparison of their results with those given in the literature were used to ascertain their structures. Furthermore, the acetylation of 3,3′-di-<i>O</i>-methylellagic acid 4′-<i>O</i>-β-D-xylopyranoside (<b>2</b>) afforded a new derivative 3,3′-di-<i>O</i>-methylellagic acid 4′-<i>O</i>-β-D-(4,2′′,4′′-triacetyl)-xylopyranoside (<b>2a</b>). Extracts, fractions, and isolated compounds were assessed for their antioxidant, urease, and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities. Compound <b>1</b> demonstrated potent antioxidant activity in the DPPH with an IC<sub>50</sub> value of 36.4 ± 0.2 µM, while rhaponticin (<b>3</b>), 2,6-dimethoxybenzoquinone (<b>4</b>), and taraxerol (<b>6</b>) exhibited a strong α-glucosidase inhibitory activity with the IC<sub>50</sub> values of 35.5 ± 0.1, 25.5 ± 0.2 and 43.4 ± 0.3 µM, respectively. The present study enriches the chemistry of <i>Guiboutia ehie</i> and provides further evidence on its bioactive constituents, which might help in the development of hypoglycaemic drugs.

Abstract The Brazilian Cerrado biome consists of a great variety of endemic species with several bioactive compounds, and Anadenanthera peregrina (L.) Speg is a promising species. In this study, we aimed to perform phytochemical characterization and evaluate the antioxidant and antibacterial activities against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli of the hydroethanolic extract of A. peregrina stem bark. The barks were collected in the Botanical Garden of Goiânia, Brazil. The hydroethanolic extract was obtained by percolation and subjected to physicochemical screening, total phenolic content estimation, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) fingerprinting, and antioxidant (IC50 values were calculated for the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl assay - DPPH) and antibacterial activity determination. The pH of the extract was 5.21 and density was 0.956 g/cm3. The phytochemical screening indicated the presence of cardiac glycosides, organic acids, reducing sugars, hemolytic saponins, phenols, coumarins, condensed tannins, flavonoids, catechins, depsides, and depsidones derived from benzoquinones. The extract showed intense hemolytic activity. The total phenolic content was 6.40 g GAE 100 g-1. The HPLC fingerprinting analysis revealed the presence of gallic acid, catechin, and epicatechin. We confirmed the antioxidant activity of the extract. Furthermore, the extract did not inhibit the growth of E. coli colonies at any volume tested, but there were halos around S. aureus colonies at all three volumes tested. These results contribute to a better understanding of the chemical composition of A. peregrina stem bark and further support the medicinal applications of this species.

Objective: Evaluation of anxiolytic and anti-depressant activity of Neolamarckia cadamba in mice. Material & Method: The aqueous and methanolic extract of “Neolamarckia cadamba” and chose low medium and high doses for therapy. The behavioral consequences of an oral acute or subacute (10 days) treatment. Neolamarckia cadamba (250 and 500 mg/kg, p.o) aqueous and methanolic stem bark extract assessed in male and female Swiss mice (EPM). Diazepam (1 mg/kg) will also be evaluated. Anti-anxiety drug testing in the lab. Results: Neolamarckia cadamba,  acute oral toxicity was detected with different extracts (ENC & AQNC) having dose  (5, 50, 300, 1000 mg/kg ) via the oral route,  shows no change in behavioral responses and observation shows no acute oral toxicity. Hence depending upon it, Dose was selected 250 mg/kg & 500 mg/kg for our experimental work. Conclusion: Neolamarckia cadamba has both anxiolytic and antidepressant properties, which likely operate through BZD receptors, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. The antidepressant and anxiolytic properties of Neolamarckia cadamba ethanolic and aqueous extracts were investigated in Swiss albino mice at doses of 250 and 500 mg/kg, respectively. Both extracts (ANC & ENC) showed strong antidepressant and anxiolytic efficacy using TST and EPM parameters.

The study was carried out to investigate the composition of natural compounds of methanol extract of leaf and stem bark of Stereospermum suaveolens (Roxb.) DC by repeated chromatographic separation and purification processes over silica gel. The phytochemical investigation resulted in the isolation of a total of three compounds, which were identified as stigmasterol (1), β-amyrin (2) and 4-methoxycinnamic acid (3). The chemical structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated by analyses of their physical properties, acquired 1H NMR data and comparison with published reports. Among these, compounds 2 and 3 are first report of their isolation from this plant species. Bangladesh J. Bot. 50(4): 1191-1194, 2021 (December)
