This paper reports the result of an investigation on the potential energy saving of the lighting systems at selected buildings of the Universiti Tenaga Nasional. The scope of this project includes evaluation of the lighting system in the Library, Admin Building, College of Engineering, College of Information Technology, Apartments, and COE Food court of the university. The main objectives of this project are to design the proper retrofit scenario and to calculate the potential electricity saving, the payback period, and the potential environmental benefits. In this survey the policy for retrofitting the old lighting system with the new energy saving LEDs starts with 10% for the first year and continues constantly for 10 years until all the lighting systems have been replaced. The result of the life cycle analysis reveals that after four years, the selected buildings will bring profit for the investment.

Energy is an essential component in supporting people’s daily lives and is a significant economical element in development of the country. The eventual depletion of conventional energy resources and their harmful impacts on environment as well as the rising energy costs and the limitations of new energy resources and technologies have pushed efficient energy management to the top of the agenda. But how the energy utilization can be managed? A simple answer to this is viable and real time metering, which enables calculation of run time energy consumption and obtaining the real-time as well as cumulative cost. In this research an Innovative hardware and IoT based solution to this problem is availed that could provide live information related to consumption of electricity by various appliances. The methodology used in this research is mainly based on a hardware tool named Elite 440 which is a meter and provides the data about various electrical parameters. This data so obtained is made visible on the dashboard in a user friendly. The data so visible includes various parameters like voltage, current, power factor etc. Also the data so obtained on the dashboard gets updated in each five minutes and simultaneously the cost gets updated which makes it real time monitoring System.

This paper considered more comprehensive than traditional cost-benefit analysis. Spillover benefits and spillover cost were included. It also combined the development present situation of Hebei wind power generation enterprises and the corresponding policy of the twelfth five-year plan. It studied the development countermeasures of Hebei wind power generation enterprises from the perspective of comprehensive cost benefit with the purpose of easing the tension situation of energy and realizing the goal of energy saving.

Establishing a public park raises a number of methodological issues. The model worked out by HÉTFA Research Institute is suitable for cost-benefit analysis and ex ante viability test of a public park integrated into urban landscape. The paper presents the model by the example of a planned public park at one of the busiest centers of Budapest, the junction of Margit Boulevard and Millennium Park. Such a comprehensive economic evaluation for public parks has not been made in Hungary. First the mechanism of effects was set up, and by using the hedonic price method the project’s costs and benefits were presented with national and international statistical indicators and benchmarks. The investment, that has been started in 2016 with in the initial planning and demolition pays for itself by 2019. The results are tested with sensitivity analysis, which has inter alia shown that if we count by the general approach of the project management - costs are expected to increase by 10% and benefits are to reduce by 10% - investment returns for the city and their inhabitants for 2030. Furthermore, without the effect of property appreciation - the investment turns positive by 2061 thanks only to indirect social, economic, environmental benefits. According to our analysis, the park's development, which relaxes a built-in highly populated urban fabric, has become an economically profitable investment as a result of significant beneficial external effects.

Because of the energy crisis and the low proportion of new buildings in Taiwan, rational use of electricity in existing buildings becomes very important for reducing carbon emissions and combating global climate change. The retrofitting of lighting systems is one of the most widely adopted energy saving measures. This study presents the potential energy saving and payback period of lighting system retrofit through replacing low performance T8 fluorescents with T5 fluorescents and LED indicator lights in the Green Building Renovation Plan. Based on the analysis, this study concludes that lighting system retrofit can achieve significant energy saving ratios of 10-17.5% in daily use. However, the average payback periods of GBRP investment and normal purchase investment are ten years and 7.82 years, respectively. Both exceed the average lifetime of lighting equipment, suggesting that lighting system retrofit is slightly uneconomical because of the low electricity tariff in Taiwan.

In recent years, prefabricated housing has become increasingly popular and widely promoted due to its potential to improve the construction environment, quality and productivity. To develop prefabricated housing and address housing challenges, the Chinese government is encouraging prefabricated public housing. Consequently, evaluating the environmental performance of prefabricated public housing to identify whether it is environmentally friendly and worthy of investment is urgently needed. This paper compares the costs and benefits of prefabricated public projects and traditional projects based on a questionnaire and field investigation. The paper introduces information from the collected questionnaires on the respondents and projects in Beijing; this information includes the prefabrication rate, technology application, barriers, and industrial performance. The paper also reports a cost-benefit analysis of the changing rates of construction costs and environmental benefits (energy consumption, water usage, construction waste, steel and concrete usage, dust and noise pollution) by using the ∆B/∆C ratio to show the efficiency of prefabricated housing. The results indicate that the ratio is 1.81, which exceeds 1; therefore, investment in prefabricated public housing is environmentally acceptable and efficient. This paper also discusses the efficiencies in different categories and structures with and without incentives. The results show that the costs are higher and the environmental benefits are efficient but not significant; thus, promoting prefabricated public housing is necessary.

To solve the problem for the complexity of the quantitative evaluation of grid planning economy, in accordance with the principle of cost-benefit analysis, and combined with the characteristics of UHV power grid, we construct an input-output index system which contains the planning costs, economic benefits, the benefits of interconnection, environmental benefits, social benefits and other benefits in this paper. And for the problem of comparison between unexpected output indicators and effective unit that exists in the index system, we improve the traditional data envelopment analysis (DEA), and build a quantitative evaluation model of grid planning economy based on the improved DEA model. Finally, use the data of the planning program of a UHV grid, to test and verify the established evaluation model. The results show that the model is reasonable and effective.

Firms are under constant pressure to minimize negative externalities and increase positive externalities. These pressures are translating into the corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities by firms. CSR is emerging as a widespread business activity, and firms are undertaking CSR voluntarily. This case provides a brief discussion of the scenario of CSR in India. It goes on to discuss the educational activities undertaken by firms under their CSR programmes. Brillio Technologies is one such company that has adopted CSR voluntarily, from the very first year of operations, in 2015. CSR actions of Brillio go beyond the legal requirements as it achieved remarkable results in community engagement and employee engagement. CSR activities of companies are internal to the organization, such as reducing and recycling waste, or external to the organization, such as reducing its carbon footprint. While Brillio undertook numerous internal activities, its focus was on external activities through its flagship programme ‘Bringing Smiles’. The programme successfully reached 100,000 underserved students through STEM education by 2020—the company partnered with NGOs and schools to achieve its social goals. Participants need to evaluate the existing programme and strategize for achieving the goals. They are posed with three choices: (a) increase employee volunteering hours, (b) partner with more NGOs and (c) recommend a foundation for taking up CSR activities. These strategies could be a huge drain on the resources, hence there is need for a cost-benefit analysis of the alternatives.
