A biquartic rational interpolation spline surface over rectangular domain is constructed in this paper, which includes the classical bicubic Coons surface as a special case. Sufficient conditions for generating shape preserving interpolation splines for positive or monotonic surface data are deduced. The given numeric experiments show our method can deal with surface construction from positive or monotonic data effectively.

This paper is concerned with the nonnegativity preserving interpolation of data on rectangular grids. The function is a kind of bivariate rational interpolation spline with parameters, which isC1in the whole interpolation region. Sufficient conditions are derived on coefficients in the rational spline to ensure that the surfaces are always nonnegative if the original data are nonnegative. The gradients at the data sites are modified if necessary to ensure that the nonnegativity conditions are fulfilled. Some numerical examples are illustrated in the end of this paper.

Four new quartic rational Said-Ball-like basis functions, which include the cubic Said-Ball basis functions as a special case, are constructed in this paper. The new basis is applied to generate a class ofC1continuous quartic rational Hermite interpolation splines with local tension shape parameters. The error estimate expression of the proposed interpolant is given and the sufficient conditions are derived for constructing aC1positivity- or monotonicity- preserving interpolation spline. In addition, we extend the quartic rational Said-Ball-like basis to a triangular domain which has three tension shape parameters and includes the cubic triangular Said-Ball basis as a special case. In order to compute the corresponding patch stably and efficiently, a new de Casteljau-type algorithm is developed. Moreover, theG1continuous conditions are deduced for the joining of two patches.

A newC1piecewise rational quadratic trigonometric spline with four local positive shape parameters in each subinterval is constructed to visualize the given planar data. Constraints are derived on these free shape parameters to generate shape preserving interpolation curves for positive and/or monotonic data sets. Two of these shape parameters are constrained while the other two can be set free to interactively control the shape of the curves. Moreover, the order of approximation of developed interpolant is investigated asO(h3). Numeric experiments demonstrate that our method can construct nice shape preserving interpolation curves efficiently.

Necessary conditions of undercutting of gears, necessary and sufficient conditions of the existence of the contact lines envelope on the generating surface are found. The conditions are studied under which the contact lines envelope appears in the vicinity of the given contact point of the generating surface with beginning of undercutting simultaneously on the mating surface. The Wildhaber-Baxter problem of the limit normal location is a special case of the theory suggested. It is proved that the appearance of a contact lines envelope on the generating surface of skew worm-gears can be avoided and meshing conditions improved.

A complete solution of the well-known Mayer’s problem, which is concerned with the possibility of extending Hamilton’s principle expressed in the form valid for conservative dynamical systems to one special case of nonconservative systems (Appell, 1911), is obtained. Namely, the necessary and sufficient conditions which have to be satisfied by the coefficients of the given nonconservative generalized forces so that the Mayer’s potential (and, as a consequence, the descriptive function of the system) can be constructed, are established. This result is illustrated by an example.

AbstractIn this paper, a numerical technique for a general form of nonlinear fractional-order differential equations with a linear functional argument using Chebyshev series is presented. The proposed equation with its linear functional argument represents a general form of delay and advanced nonlinear fractional-order differential equations. The spectral collocation method is extended to study this problem as a discretization scheme, where the fractional derivatives are defined in the Caputo sense. The collocation method transforms the given equation and conditions to algebraic nonlinear systems of equations with unknown Chebyshev coefficients. Additionally, we present a general form of the operational matrix for derivatives. A general form of the operational matrix to derivatives includes the fractional-order derivatives and the operational matrix of an ordinary derivative as a special case. To the best of our knowledge, there is no other work discussed this point. Numerical examples are given, and the obtained results show that the proposed method is very effective and convenient.

This paper discusses the construction of a type-2 fuzzy B-spline model to model complex uncertainty of surface data. To construct this model, the type-2 fuzzy set theory, which includes type-2 fuzzy number concepts and type-2 fuzzy relation, is used to define the complex uncertainty of surface data in type-2 fuzzy data/control points. These type-2 fuzzy data/control points are blended with the B-spline surface function to produce the proposed model, which can be visualized and analyzed further. Various processes, namely fuzzification, type-reduction and defuzzification are defined to achieve a crisp, type-2 fuzzy B-spline surface, representing uncertainty complex surface data. This paper ends with a numerical example of terrain modeling, which shows the effectiveness of handling the uncertainty complex data.

We are given a Markov chain with states 0, 1, 2, ···. We want to get a numerical approximation of the steady-state balance equations. To do this, we truncate the chain, keeping the first n states, make the resulting matrix stochastic in some convenient way, and solve the finite system. The purpose of this paper is to provide some sufficient conditions that imply that as n tends to infinity, the stationary distributions of the truncated chains converge to the stationary distribution of the given chain. Our approach is completely probabilistic, and our conditions are given in probabilistic terms. We illustrate how to verify these conditions with five examples.

We examine PBW deformations of finite group extensions of quantum symmetric algebras, in particular the quantum Drinfeld orbifold algebras defined by the first author. We give a homological interpretation, in terms of Gerstenhaber brackets, of the necessary and sufficient conditions on parameter functions to define a quantum Drinfeld orbifold algebra, thus clarifying the conditions. In case the acting group is trivial, we determine conditions under which such a PBW deformation is a generalized enveloping algebra of a color Lie algebra; our PBW deformations include these algebras as a special case.
