The structure of high-speed roller door with water film has improved in this study. The flameproof water film system is equipped with a water circulating device to reduce the water consumption of water film system. The water film is generated at the roller box of the high-speed roller door in this study. The heating test is done with the full-scale heating furnace. Both cases of the water film on unexposed surface and water film on exposed surface passed the fire resistance test based on ISO 834, proving that the high-speed roller door with water film system has 120A fire resistance period. The main findings indicate that the water film on exposed surface shows that as the amount of water film evaporated by high temperature inside the furnace must be greater than the evaporation capacity of water film on unexposed surface, the required water supply is 660 L more than the water film on unexposed surface.

This paper reports the investigation on the fire resistance performance of reinforced concrete column with embedded permanent formwork from woodwool board (WWCB). A series of slender column embedded with and without WWCB with cross-sections 200 mm x 200 mm for column without WWCB and 300 mm x 300 mm with embedded 50 mm thick WWCB. The height of the slender column was 2000 mm. The fire resistance test was performed in accordance with BS 476-22:1987 for two (2) hours fire exposure. The fire resistance test for the embedded column with WWCB was classified as “good” in resisting fire and heat transfer.

Composite beam using asymmetric H-shaped steel is one of the constructional structures developed in the advanced countries in Europe since early 1990s. The purpose of this study on composite beams where H-shaped steel is partially laid in concrete slabs was to find how to design fire protection and improve fire-resistance to make deep deck plates provide the beams with advantages upon a fire and to improve stiffness in structural aspect. Only lower flange which is directly exposed to a fire was included in fire-resistance design in order to decide optimal fire- protection design condition and test was conducted for spray-coating and paint-coating. In the fire resistance test, web thickness and lower flange thickness were varied to derive the optimum condition for improving fire-resistance performance. It was observed from the test that 90-minute-protection employed to lower flange provided fire resistance for 3 hours. It was also observed that the basic shape resisted fire for 89 minutes, while web reinforcement and lower flange reinforcement provided fire-resistance for 112 and 157 minutes, respectively. The result showed that lower flange reinforcement is the most effective way to improve fire-resistance.

This is an experimental study that analyzes the fire resistance performance of the types of glass installed in an opening to prevent a fire from spreading through the opening. The fire resistance test for glazed elements (KS F 2845) was performed on four materials: laminated glass, general glass, double-layer glass, and toughened glass. To analyze the risk of fire of each glass type, the temperature prediction of the fire room in the building was analyzed. As a result, the laminated glass ruptured at 617 ℃, and it was found to be the most resistant to heat amongst all the glass types. Additionally, the temperature of the fire in the compartment was predicted to reach 617 ℃ in 3 min. A performance review is required for the glass installed in the opening to prevent the fire from spreading.

Abstract According to the standard EN 45545, fire resistant tests of floor structures in high-speed train were carried out. Two typical floor structures which were placed in the passenger train were tested. Integrity and insulation are main performance criteria to evaluate fire resistance of floor structures. The furnace temperature is in accordance with the requirements in the standard ISO 834. The surface temperature and deflection were recorded with time. Glass wool and aluminium corrugated sandwich structure in two structures were burned through. The experiments were terminated at 30 minutes and 31 minutes respectively for the two structures. A large amount of smoke and the sound of cracking of the exposed surface of the test piece were produced, although the unexposed surface of test pieces did not reach the failure condition.

Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is extensively used to manufacture different conductive materials, including difficult to machine materials with intricate profiles. Powder Mixed Electro-Discharge Machining (PMEDM) is a modern innovation in promoting the capabilities of conventional EDM. In this process, suitable materials in fine powder form are mixed in the dielectric fluid. An equal percentage of graphite and silicon carbide powders have been mixed together with the transformer oil and used as the dielectric media in this work. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of some process parameters such as peak current, pulse-on time, and powder concentration of machining High-speed steel (HSS)/(M2) on the material removal rate (MRR), tool wear rate (TWR) and the surface roughness (Ra). Experiments have been designed and analyzed using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) approach by adopting a face-centered central composite design (FCCD). It is found that added graphite-silicon carbide mixing powder to the dielectric fluid enhanced the MRR and Ra as well as reduced the TWR at various conditions. Maximum MRR was (0.492 g/min) obtained at a peak current of (24 A), pulse on (100 µs), and powder concentration (10 g/l), minimum TWR was (0.00126 g/min) at (10 A, 100 µs, and 10 g/l), and better Ra was (3.51 µm) at (10 A, 50 µs, and 10 g/l).

Discharge Machining is a non-traditional machining technique and usually applied for hard metals and complex shapes that difficult to machining in the traditional cutting process. This process depends on different parameters that can affect the material removal rate and surface roughness. The electrode material is one of the important parameters in Electro –Discharge Machining (EDM). In this paper, the experimental work carried out by using a composite material electrode and the workpiece material from a high-speed steel plate. The cutting conditions: current (10 Amps, 12 Amps, 14 Amps), pulse on time (100 µs, 150 µs, 200 µs), pulse off time 25 µs, casting technique has been carried out to prepare the composite electrodes copper-sliver. The experimental results showed that Copper-Sliver (weight ratio70:30) gives better results than commonly electrode copper, Material Removal Rate (MRR) Copper-Sliver composite electrode reach to 0.225 gm/min higher than the pure Copper electrode. The lower value of the tool wear rate achieved with the composite electrode is 0.0001 gm/min. The surface roughness of the workpiece improved with a composite electrode compared with the pure electrode.
