Objectives. This study aims to determine the changing in hip anatomy parameters with age and reveals the reason for the extorsion of lower extremity in the aged. Design. Retrospective study. Participants. One hundred and forty patients who had received imaging check of the femur and acetabulum between October 2013 and October 2016 were included in this study. Main Outcome Measures. The femoral neck torsion angle (FNTA), neck-shaft angle (NSA), and acetabular anteversion angle (AVA) were measured by an experienced orthopedic surgeon. All the patients’ demographic and physical characteristics including age, sex, body laterality, height, and weight were recorded. The Student t-test, two-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression were used for the statistical analysis. Results. The mean age for male and female was 45.01±15.38 and 49.30±17.63 years, respectively. Outcomes revealed that the NSA on the right side of the body, 133.46±4.46° in male and 134.36±4.71° in female, was statistically higher than the left side. Female FNTA had significantly higher values than male (P<0.01). Two-way ANOVA reveals that FNTA and AVA were correlated with age (P<0.05) but not weight, height, or BMI. NSA was correlated with age, weight, and BMI (P<0.05) but not height. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that only age made an independent contribution to NSA. Conclusions. The NSA and FNTA of Asian population may have an obvious decrease whereas AVA increases with ageing, which reveals the reason for the extorsion of lower extremity with elderly. During hip-related surgery in elderly patients, more attention should be paid to these lower extremity anatomic changes.

Smoking leads to disease and disability as well as harm nearly every organ of the body. Furthermore, smoking of tobacco is known to cause pulmonary dysfunction and lead to complications, pain, or even death. This study aims to measure the risk factors for the respiration of carbon monoxide among smokers. A cross-sectional design was implemented by involving 156 smokers in Karyajaya Subdistrict, Palembang City. The dependent variable was carbon monoxide levels (ppm), while the independent variables were smoking frequency, duration, and the last period of smoking. The carbon monoxide levels (ppm) measured with a PiCO + Smokerlyzer® device from Bedfont Scientific Limited were the research tool and the independent variables of the questionnaire. The pearson Correlation and multiple linear regression were used for the analysis. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis revealed that smoking duration assessment is related to carbon monoxide respiration after controlling smoking frequency, the last period of smoking, and the distance of residence to sources of exposure. The smoker's respiration of carbon monoxide level was 72.5% influenced by the duration, frequency, last period of smoking, and distance of residence to sources of exposure. Reducing the frequency of smoking and stopping may prevent and control carbon monoxide respiration.

When body pressures are concentrated, sense of fatigue is increased. To confirm this, correlation analysis between the difference in stiffness of seat and comfort using multiple linear regression analysis has been conducted. For the selected three types of seats which are small-, mid-, and large-size seats, respectively, static tests were con-ducted to measure the distribution of the subject's body pressure on the cushion, through which local stiffness distribution were derived. Also, a subjective comfort evaluation was conducted, and analyzed. According to the present analysis results, the correlation coefficients between stiff-ness of hip area and comfort of hip area were observed to be 0.713 and 0.789, respectively, indicating a strong positive correlation. Thus, the comfort of seat perceived by the driver could be seen to have the largest linear correlation with the stiffness of hip area. Selection of variables for the multiple linear regression analysis was implemented by a backward removal method. Differences of stiffness by areas were selected as independent variables, and subjective comfort evaluation results were selected as dependent variables. According to multiple regression analysis, the comfort of the cushion increased when the left and right balance of the stiffness distribution was maintained even if the body pressure distribution of the hip area was concentrated on one side. According to the analysis results, the stiffness of hip area could be seen to have the greatest linear relationship with the overall satisfaction of comfort, in which comfort is planned to be confirmed by actual production of seats

Background: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age which can cause many problems such as hyperandrogenic symptoms and fertility problems. Objective: The present study aimed to determine the relationship of mindfulness with hyperandrogenic symptoms and demographic and fertility factors in women with PCOS. Methods: This descriptive correlational study was conducted on 181 women with PCOS referred to Firoozabadi and Firoozgar hospitals in Tehran, Iran who were selected using a continuous sampling method and based on inclusion criteria from June 2018 to August 2019. Data were collected using a demographic/fertility form, the modified Ferriman-Gallwey Scale, Ludwig Hair Loss Scale, and Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS). Data were analyzed using independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis test, Pearson correlation test, and multiple linear regression analysis. Findings: The mean MAAS score of women was 68.61±9.88 and was significantly correlated with age (P=0.01), wife’s education (P=0.001), wife’s occupation (P=0.005), economic status (P=0.02), husband satisfaction with wife’s body and appearance (P=0.02), body mass index (P=0.01), and duration of marriage (P<0.001). According to the multiple linear regression model, the duration of marriage could predict 22% of the variance in overall MAAS score. Conclusion: Mindfulness is associated with some demographic variables, among which the marriage is its predictor. It is recommended to pay attention to the reported variables in preparation of counseling or educational programs, along with other treatments, for women with PCOS.

ABSTRACT Accurate estimation of chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) concentration in inland waters through remote-sensing techniques is complicated by local differences in the optical properties of water. In this study, we applied multiple linear regression (MLR), artificial neural network (ANN), nonparametric multiplicative regression (NPMR) and four models (Appel, Kahru, FAI and O14a) to estimate the Chl -a concentration from combinations of spectral bands from the MODIS sensor. The MLR, NPMR and ANN models were calibrated and validated using in-situ Chl -a measurements. The results showed that a simple and efficient model, developed and validated through multiple linear regression analysis, offered advantages (i.e., better performance and fewer input variables) in comparison with ANN, NPMR and four models (Appel, Kahru, FAI and O14a). In addition, we observed that in a large shallow subtropical lake, where the wind and hydrodynamics are essential factors in the spatial heterogeneity (Chl-a distribution), the MLR model adjusted using the specific point dataset, performed better than using the total dataset, which suggest that would not be appropriate to generalize a single model to estimate Chl-a in these large shallow lakes from total datasets. Our approach is a useful tool to estimate Chl -a concentration in meso-oligotrophic shallow waters and corroborates the spatial heterogeneity in these ecosystems.
