Polyglycolic acid (PGA) mesh fabric is widely used for reinforcing injured tissues during surgeries. However, PGA induces chronic inflammation and adhesion. The purpose of this study is to develop PGA reinforcement “without PGA-induced adhesion.” We developed a reinforcement fabric unified with PGA mesh and alginate foam. The antiadhesive effects of sodium alginate foam and calcium alginate foam were evaluated in rats. Sodium alginate foam unified with PGA mesh fabric exhibited strong effects that limit the extent and severity of adhesion, whereas calcium alginate foam unified with PGA mesh was less effective in preventing adhesion. In the sodium alginate group, fibroblasts and collagen fibers around implanted sites were sparse and the material degraded rapidly by macrophage ingestion. Fibroblasts and collagen fibers play a major role in adhesion formation and their excessive proliferation results in postoperative adhesion. Thus, inhibiting their increase is the key in preventing PGA-induced adhesion. The reinforcement that is composed of PGA mesh unified with sodium alginate foam strongly inhibited PGA-induced adhesion and showed excellent handling during surgery and could be easily applied with a one-step procedure.

In this paper, we propose for the first time the synthesis of α-MoO3 nanorods in a one-step procedure at mild temperatures. By changing the growth parameters, the microstructure and controllable morphology of the resulting products can be customized. The average diameter of the as-prepared nanorods is about 200 nm. The electrochromic and capacitance properties of the synthesized products were studied. The results show that the electrochromic properties of α-MoO3 nanorods at 550 nm have 67% high transmission contrast, good cycle stability and fast response time. The MoO3 nanorods also exhibit a stable supercapacitor performance with 98.5% capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles. Although current density varies sequentially, the nanostructure always exhibits a stable capacitor to maintain 100%. These results indicate the as-prepared MoO3 nanorods may be good candidates for applications in electrochromic devices and supercapacitors.

Objective. Frusemide loaded calcium alginate micropellets, an oral microparticulate delivery system, was statistically optimized exhibiting prolonged therapeutic action minimizing its adverse effects.Methods. Ionotropic Gelation technique was adopted employing 32Factorial designs and keeping the entire process free from organic solvents. Physicochemical and the release characteristics of the prepared formulations were studied, keeping variations only in sodium alginate (primary polymer) and Acrycoat E30D (copolymer) dispersion.Result. Sodium alginate was predominant over Acrycoat E30D in all batches. Nonadditives or interaction was observed to be insignificant. Multiple regressions produced second-order polynomial equation, and the predictive results obtained were validated with high degree of correlation. Thein vivostudy applauded that optimized calcium alginate micropellets of frusemide can produce a much greater diuretic effect over an extended period of 24 hours.Conclusion. This study reveals that the potential of a single dose of the mathematically optimized micro pellets of frusemide formulation is sufficient in the management of peripheral edema and ascites in congestive heart failure and as well in the treatment of chronic hypertension, leading to better patient compliance, and can be produced with minimum experimentation and time, proving far more cost-effective formulation than the conventional methods of formulating dosage forms.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative adhesion is still a consequence of intra-abdominal surgeries, which results in bowel obstruction and abdominopelvic pain. Bowel anastomosis as a common abdominal surgery has the incidence of leakage in up to 30% of patients that increase morbidity and mortality. Due to similar pathways of adhesion formation and wound healing, it is important to find a way to reduce adhesions and anastomosis leakage. AIM: This study was designed to compare antiadhesive as well as anastomosis healing improvement effect of honey and polylactide anti-adhesive barrier film. METHODS: Forty-five rabbits divided into three groups of honey, adhesion barrier film, and control group in an animal study. Under a similar condition, rabbits underwent resection and anastomosis of cecum under general anaesthesia. In the first group, honey was used at the anastomosis site, in the second one polylactide adhesion barrier film utilised, and the third one was the control group. Adhesion, as well as anastomosis leakage, was assessed after 21 days. Data were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) for Windows version 25. RESULTS: Three groups of 15 rabbits were studied. The results showed that mean peritoneal adhesion score (PAS) was lower in the honey group (1.67) in comparison to the adhesion barrier film group (3.40) and the control group (6.33). CONCLUSION: Bio-absorbable polylactide barrier has an anti-adhesion effect but is not suitable for intestinal anastomosis in rabbits. Further studies needed to evaluate these effects on human beings.

In search of an accurate and effective method to determine fatty acid composition in silkworm pupae oils, five methylation methods were evaluated for use in the gas chromatographic (GC) quantitation of fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs), including one-step esterification catalyzed by an acidic (H2SO4 and BF3) or alkali catalyst (KOH and NaOCH3) and a two-step procedure catalyzed successively by KOH and H2SO4. These methods were comparatively adopted to quantify FAMEs in silkworm pupae oil using GC-MS and GC and then validate their precision, stability and average recovery rates. The results indicated that compared with the other four methyl esterification methods, two-step methylation effectively improves the synthesis yield of FAMEs, conserves agents, and eliminates the usage of potential harmful reagents. The proposed GC method has been validated, shows good accuracy and precision, and has been applied successfully to the quantification of FAMEs in several varieties of silkworm pupae oils. The short analytical run time leads to low costs and a fast chromatographic procedure. In summary, two-step pretreatment had superior performance, providing technical references for the determination and analysis of fatty acids in other oils.
