Background. Utilization of Thai traditional medicine (TTM) was considered in menstrual-cycle-related signs and symptoms (MCSs) to evaluate women’s health. TTM clinicians diagnosed the MCSs by signs, symptoms, and associated factors of patients including a physical examination to find patterns of imbalance elements and the origin of the disorder to optimize treatment. Thus, the purpose of this study was to develop a new assessment tool, the menstrual-cycle-related signs and symptoms questionnaire (MCSQ) based on TTM principles for evaluation of women’s menstrual health. Methods. The items and components of the MCSQ were adjusted by TTM expert consensus using the Delphi technique. The content validity of the MCSQ was quantified by the content validity index (CVI). MCSQ were examined by construct validity and internal consistency reliability using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and Cronbach’s α coefficient, respectively. Results: All 19 experts (100%) responded to the questionnaires in the three rounds of the Delphi technique. The MCSQ showed high content validity of individual items (I-CVI = 0.83–1.00) and high overall content validity of the questionnaire (S-CVI/AVE = 0.98). Overall, 429 of 432 participants completed the questionnaire (99.31%). After factor analysis, the final MCSQ was divided into two sections, which consisted of 49 items. The first had 23 items focusing on the MCSs. And, the second had 14 items of personal and medical data including 12 items of associated factors. Cronbach’s α coefficient of the final MCSQ was 0.87, and that of each component was between 0.32 and 0.82. Conclusions. This study reports a new MCS questionnaire tool, which was developed from TTM knowledge to evaluate women’s health. This questionnaire showed an acceptable level of validity and reliability. Thus, it is also expected to be useful in clinical practice and ongoing research on evaluation of women’s health.

Background and Purpose: Preeclampsia, a common disorder of unknown origin, presents with signs and symptoms that can be subtle, making assessment and intervention challenging. The purpose of this study was to refine the psychometric properties of an instrument designed to assess a comprehensive range of preeclampsia symptoms. Methods: Testing of the Preeclampsia Prenatal Symptom-Monitoring Scale (PPSMC) was accomplished through a retrospective, correlational, and comparative study of 100 postpartum women with preeclampsia and gestational hypertension. Results: The initial 17-item Cronbach’s alpha was .73; reliability of the current 11-item PPSMC increased to .77. Content validity index for the PPSMC (17 items) was .88; for the PPSMC (11 items), .93. Exploratory factor analysis, known group comparisons, and predictive validity lend beginning support of the instrument’s construct validity. Conclusion: This instrument may be useful in examining in greater detail the symptomatology of women with preeclampsia in practice and research settings.

The purpose of this study was to develop a tool for community-based health organisations (CBHOs) to evaluate the preparedness in biohazards concerning epidemics or bioterrorism. We searched concepts on partnerships of CBHOs with health systems in guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and literature. Then, we validated the researcher-made tool by face validity, content validity, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and criterion validity. Data were collected by sending the tool to 620 CBHOs serving under supervision of Iran’s ministry of health. Opinions of health professionals and stakeholders in CBHOs were used to assess face and content validity. Factor loads in EFA were based on three-factor structure that verified by CFA. We used SPSS V.18 and Mplus7 software for statistical analysis. About 105 health-based CBHOs participated. After conducting face validity and calculating content validity ratio and content validity index, we reached 54 items in the field of planning, training and infrastructure. We conducted construct validity using 105 CBHOs. Three items exchanged between the fields according to factor loads in EFA, and CFA verified the model fit as Comparative Fit Index, Tucker-Lewis index and root mean square error of approximation were 0.921, 0918 and 0.052, respectively. The Cronbach’s of the whole tool was 0.944. Spearman correlation coefficient confirmed criterion validity as coefficient was 0.736. Planning, training and infrastructure fields are the most important aspects of preparedness in health-based CBHOs. Applying the new assessment tool in future studies will show the weaknesses and capabilities of health-based CBHOs in biohazard and clear necessary intervention actions for health authorities.
