<b><i>Introduction:</i></b> Visual sleep-stage scoring is a time-consuming technique that cannot extract the nonlinear characteristics of electroencephalogram (EEG). This article presents a novel method for sleep-stage differentiation based on sonification of sleep-EEG signals using wavelet transform and recurrent neural network (RNN). <b><i>Methods:</i></b> Two RNNs were designed and trained separately based on a database of classical guitar pieces and Kurdish tanbur Makams using a long short-term memory model. Moreover, discrete wavelet transform and wavelet packet decomposition were used to determine the association between the EEG signals and musical pitches. Continuous wavelet transform was applied to extract musical beat-based features from the EEG. Then, the pretrained RNN was used to generate music. To test the proposed model, 11 sleep EEGs were mapped onto the guitar and tanbur frequency intervals and presented to the pretrained RNN. Next, the generated music was randomly presented to 2 neurologists. <b><i>Results:</i></b> The proposed model classified the sleep stages with an accuracy of &#x3e;81% for tanbur and more than 93% for guitar musical pieces. The inter-rater reliability measured by Cohen’s kappa coefficient (<i>κ</i>) revealed good reliability for both tanbur (<i>κ</i> = 0.64, <i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.001) and guitar musical pieces (<i>κ</i> = 0.85, <i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.001). <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> The present EEG sonification method leads to valid sleep staging by clinicians. The method could be used on various EEG databases for classification, differentiation, diagnosis, and treatment purposes. Real-time EEG sonification can be used as a feedback tool for replanning of neurophysiological functions for the management of many neurological and psychiatric disorders in the future.

The train is one of the public transportation that is very popular because it is affordable and free of congestion. There is often a buildup of train passengers at the station so that it sometimes causes an accumulation of passengers at the station and makes the situation at the station to be not conducive. In order to avoid a buildup of passengers, forecasting the number of passengers can be done. Forecasting is determined based on data in previous times. Data of train passengers in Java (excluding Jabodetabek) forms a non-stationary and contains nonlinear relationships between the lags. One of the nonlinear models that can be used is Recurrent Neural Network (RNN). Before RNN modeling, Maximal Overlap Wavelet Transform (MODWT) was used to make data more stationary. Forecasting model of train passengers in Java excluding Jabodetabek, Indonesia using MODWT-RNN results forecasting with RMSE is 252.85, while RMSE of SARIMA and RNN are 434.97 and 320.48. These results indicate that the MODWT-RNN model gives a more accurate result than SARIMA and RNN.

Our day-to-day activity is highly influenced by development of Internet. One of the rapid growing area in Internet is E-commerce. People are eager to buy products from online sites like Amazon, embay, Flipkart etc. Customers can write reviews about the products purchased online. The purchasing of good through online has been increasing exponentially since last few years. As there is no physical contact with goods before purchasing through online, people totally rely on reviews about the product before purchasing it. Hence review plays an important role in deciding the quality of the product. There are many customers who give online reviews about the product after using it. Hence the quality of the product is decided by the reviews of the customers. Thus, detection of fake reviews has become one of the important task. The proposed system will help in finding such fake reviews about the product, so that the fake reviews can be eliminated. Therefore, the purchasing of the products will be totally based on the genuine reviews. The proposed system uses Deep Recurrent Neural Network (DRNN) to predict the fake reviews and the performance of the proposed method has compared with Naïve Bayes Algorithm. The proposed model shows good accuracy and can handle huge amount of data over the existing system.

Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals have great importance in the area of brain-computer interface (BCI) which has diverse applications ranging from medicine to entertainment. BCI acquires brain signals, extracts informative features and generates control signals from the knowledge of these features for functioning of external devices. The objective of this work is twofold. Firstly, to extract suitable features related to hand movements and secondly, to discriminate the left and right hand movements signals finding effective classifier. This work is a continuation of our previous study where beta band was found compatible for hand movement analysis. The discrete wavelet transform (DWT) has been used to separate beta band of the EEG signal in order to extract features.  The performance of a probabilistic neural network (PNN) is investigated to find better classifier of left and right hand movements EEG signals and compared with classical back propagation based neural network. The obtained results shows that PNN (99.1%) has better classification rate than the BP (88.9%). The results of this study are expected to be helpful in brain computer interfacing for hand movements related bio-rehabilitation applications.

<span>This paper proposes a new hybrid deep learning model for heart disease prediction using recurrent neural network (RNN) with the combination of multiple gated recurrent units (GRU), long short-term memory (LSTM) and Adam optimizer. This proposed model resulted in an outstanding accuracy of 98.6876% which is the highest in the existing model of RNN. The model was developed in Python 3.7 by integrating RNN in multiple GRU that operates in Keras and Tensorflow as the backend for deep learning process, supported by various Python libraries. The recent existing models using RNN have reached an accuracy of 98.23% and deep neural network (DNN) has reached 98.5%. The common drawbacks of the existing models are low accuracy due to the complex build-up of the neural network, high number of neurons with redundancy in the neural network model and imbalance datasets of Cleveland. Experiments were conducted with various customized model, where results showed that the proposed model using RNN and multiple GRU with synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTe) has reached the best performance level. This is the highest accuracy result for RNN using Cleveland datasets and much promising for making an early heart disease prediction for the patients.</span>

This paper proposes a classification framework for automatic sleep stage detection in both male and female human subjects by analyzing the electroencephalogram (EEG) data of polysomnography (PSG) recorded for three regions of the human brain, i.e., the pre-frontal, central, and occipital lobes. Without considering any artifact removal approach, the residual neural network (ResNet) architecture is used to automatically learn the distinctive features of different sleep stages from the power spectral density (PSD) of the raw EEG data. The residual block of the ResNet learns the intrinsic features of different sleep stages from the EEG data while avoiding the vanishing gradient problem. The proposed approach is validated using the sleep dataset of the Dreams database, which comprises of EEG signals for 20 healthy human subjects, 16 female and 4 male. Our experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the ResNet based approach in identifying different sleep stages in both female and male subjects compared to state-of-the-art methods with classification accuracies of 87.8% and 83.7%, respectively.

The categorization of sleep stages helps to diagnose different sleep-related ailments. In this paper, an entropy-based information–theoretic approach is introduced for the automated categorization of sleep stages using multi-channel electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. This approach comprises of three stages. First, the decomposition of multi-channel EEG signals into sub-band signals or modes is performed using a novel multivariate projection-based fixed boundary empirical wavelet transform (MPFBEWT) filter bank. Second, entropy features such as bubble and dispersion entropies are computed from the modes of multi-channel EEG signals. Third, a hybrid learning classifier based on class-specific residuals using sparse representation and distances from nearest neighbors is used to categorize sleep stages automatically using entropy-based features computed from MPFBEWT domain modes of multi-channel EEG signals. The proposed approach is evaluated using the multi-channel EEG signals obtained from the cyclic alternating pattern (CAP) sleep database. Our results reveal that the proposed sleep staging approach has obtained accuracies of 91.77%, 88.14%, 80.13%, and 73.88% for the automated categorization of wake vs. sleep, wake vs. rapid eye movement (REM) vs. Non-REM, wake vs. light sleep vs. deep sleep vs. REM sleep, and wake vs. S1-sleep vs. S2-sleep vs. S3-sleep vs. REM sleep schemes, respectively. The developed method has obtained the highest overall accuracy compared to the state-of-art approaches and is ready to be tested with more subjects before clinical application.

Monitoring cycle life can provide a prediction of the remaining battery life. To improve the prediction accuracy of lithium-ion battery capacity degradation, we propose a hybrid long short-term memory recurrent neural network model with an attention mechanism. The hyper-parameters of the proposed model are also optimized by a differential evolution algorithm. Using public battery datasets, the proposed model is compared to some published models, and it gives better prediction performance in terms of mean absolute percentage error and root mean square error. In addition, the proposed model can achieve higher prediction accuracy of battery end of life.

Sleep is an essential integrant in everyone’s daily life; therefore, it is an important but challenging problem to characterize sleep stages from electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. The network motif has been developed as a useful tool to investigate complex networks. In this study, we developed a multiplex visibility graph motif‐based convolutional neural network (CNN) for characterizing sleep stages using EEG signals and then introduced the multiplex motif entropy as the quantitative index to distinguish the six sleep stages. The independent samples t‐test shows that the multiplex motif entropy values have significant differences among the six sleep stages. Furthermore, we developed a CNN model and employed the multiplex motif sequence as the input of the model to classify the six sleep stages. Notably, the classification accuracy of the six‐state stage detection was 85.27%. Results demonstrated the effectiveness of the multiplex motif in characterizing the dynamic features underlying different sleep stages, whereby they further provide an essential strategy for future sleep‐stage detection research.
