<p>A microstrip dipole UHF-RFID tag antenna that can be mounted on metal object is presented in this paper. The antenna, which has a very simple structure without any shorting pin and shorting plate, is composed of ladder feed line, rectangular loop, capacitive tip-loading and T-match structure. The insertion of ground plane in the tag antenna design reduces the negative impact of metal object to the performance of the tag antenna. The tag is designed to operate in the Malaysia frequency range with the center frequency of 921 MHz. The performance of the tag is evaluated through simulation and measurement in terms of impedance matching, antenna reflection coefficient and tag reading range. The measured reading range obtained when the tag is in free air and on metal object is 2.3 m and 2.2 m respectively.</p>

Cylinder is a common object and used in logistics industry, such as liquid container like wine. The performance of tags that are used on these objects declines, especially the read range and the radiation pattern of the tag. In this paper, a type of UHF tag antenna directly mountable on the cylinder surface. In order to reduce the impact of the deformation, the tag is designed with meander-line but not symmetrical. Antenna is combined with T-matching network to ensure good impedance matching. Compared with the basic dipole antenna tag both cylinder and plane surface, we can get the prominent feature of the tag proposed in this paper.

A wideband coplanar waveguide (CPW) antenna with circular polarization characteristics using modified ground slot is studied in this work. Proposed design incorporates a hexagonal slot instead of rectangular slot, accounting for enhanced impedance matching. This ground slot is energized by a 50Ω feed line, resulting in excitation of two orthogonal phase quadrature modes (even-odd modes). Thus, fulfilling the essential criteria required for realizing circular polarization. A narrow horizontal slit (lg) is embedded in the ground plane at immediate left of feed line, accounting for wideband characteristics. 10dB impedance bandwidth of proposed antenna extends from 2.65- 5.60 GHz, while 3dB axial ratio bandwidth extends from 3.90- 5.80 GHz. Hence, overlapping bandwidth of proposed antenna extends from 3.90 - 5.60 GHz. RHCP characteristics with monopole radiation pattern makes proposed antenna useful for WLAN, radio navigation and radiolocation applications.

In this paper, we study the input impedance characteristics of axial mode helical antennas to find an effective way for matching it to 50 Ω. The study is done on the important matching parameters such as like wire diameter and helix to the ground plane gap. It is intended that these parameters control the matching without detrimentally affecting the radiation pattern. Using transmission line theory, a simple broadband technique is proposed, which is applicable for perfect matching of antennas with similar design parameters. We provide design curves to help to choose the proper dimensions of the matching section based on the antenna’s unmatched input impedance. Finally, using the proposed technique, a 4-turn axial mode helix is designed at 2.5 GHz center frequency and the measurement results of the manufactured antenna will be included. This parametric study gives a good insight into the input impedance characteristics of axial mode helical antennas and the proposed impedance matching approach provides a simple, useful method for matching these types of antennas.

Planar UHF RFID antimetal tag can be widely used for the metallic products or packages with metal material inside. A double loop inductive feed planar patch antenna is proposed for UHF RFID tag mounted on metallic objects. Compared to conventional microstrip antennas or PIFA antennas used for UHF RFID tags, the double loop inductive feed patch antenna has a planar structure, with no short via or short wall, which could decrease the manufacturing cost of the tags. The double loop inductive feed structure also increases the radiation performance of the planar antenna. Moreover, the double loop inductive feed structure makes the impedance of the patch antenna be tuned easily for conjugate impedance matching.

A coplanar wave guide fed fork shaped antenna is designed with reconfigurability for switching between the application bands of LTE, Wi-Fi and WLAN. A novel closed hut shaped ground plane structure is used in the construction of the antenna model for good impedance matching with the feed line. The basic structure of the antenna model is working in the UWB range from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz. The adjacent strips of the monopole consisting of the slots for the placement of PIN diodes. The switching operation of the diodes providing frequency reconfigurability nature in the antenna between LTE (2.1-2.2 GHz), Wi-Fi (2.4 to 2.7 GHz) and WLAN (5.6-5.8 GHz) bands. Antenna is providing peak realized gain of 4.5 dB and efficiency more than 70% in the operating bands. The prototyped antenna is providing excellent measurement results in correlation with simulation results obtained from CST Microwave Studio.

A novel compact planar UHF RFID tag with broadband operation and enhanced read range characteristics are presented. The structure of the tag consists of a T- matched dipole antenna whose arms are orthogonally loaded with Triangular SRR arrays. Triangular SRR arms loaded in the structure produce compactness and good impedance matching which is needed for maximizing the read range. The measured results shows that the projected tag shows a highest read range of 9.6 meter in the European UHF RFID band of 866 MHz and significantly better read range in the other UHF RFID bands in the 860-930 MHz range . Measured read range differences over the azimuth and elevation angular ranges are also suggested.

A printed dual broadband monopole antenna has been presented here for WLAN and WIMAX applications. The antenna is designed with the help of simulation software HFSS and proposed antenna is fabricated to verify the simulated results with the measured results. The patch of the proposed antenna consists of two identical metallic structures which are like English letter “E” and are placed face to face to each other. Now, the lower arms of E-shaped structures are connected together with a rectangular microstrip transmission line of length 15 mm and width 3.06 mm to form the proposed patch. The proposed “E” shape patch is printed on FR4 substrate of height 1.6 mm, relative permittivity εr= 4.4, and loss tangent 0.02. The ground plane of the proposed antenna consists of partial rectangular metal at opposite side of the patch. The proposed antenna achieves dual band characteristics using the proposed structure. The measured results show that the proposed structure covers the transmission bands from 2.45 GHz to 3.66 GHz with center frequency of 3.0 GHz and from 4.16 GHz to 5.94 GHz with center frequency of 5.37 GHz. There is a good impedance matching between measurement result and computer simulated results. The measured percentage bandwidths have been obtained by 39.1 % and 35.24 %, respectively. The peak gain (measured) at 3 GHz and 5.37 GHz resonant frequencies are 3 dBi and 4 dBi, respectively. This proposed antenna also exhibits with monopole like E-Plane and H-plane co-polarization radiation pattern at two center frequencies. The obtained bands are useful for WLAN and WiMAX applications.
