We provide a synopsis to the family Hymenophyllaceae in Bolivia, comprising 7 genera and 75 species, 2 of which are endemic to the country. One new species, Hymenophyllum (Sphaerocionium) jimenezii A.R.Sm. & M.Kessler, is described from Bolivia; additionally two new combinations are made: Didymoglossum punctatum subsp. sphenoides (Kunze) A.R.Sm. & M.Kessler and Polyphlebium herzogii (Rosenst.) A.R.Sm. & M.Kessler.

Within the framework of the preparation of the treatment of the family Dipterocarpaceae for the Flore d’Afrique Centrale, the revision of the genus Monotes in D.R. Congo is presented, including a discussion on its distinction from the closely related genus Marquesia. Monotes has suffered from taxonomic inflation. A much more synthetic treatment than earlier revisions is here proposed, with 15 new synonyms and seven species or subspecies downgraded to varietal rank. Twenty-seven taxa are accepted in D.R. Congo (13 species, 10 varieties and four forms), of which six are new to the flora of the country. One new species (Monotes duvigneaudii), one new subspecies (Monotes rubriglans subsp. upembensis) and three new varieties are described (Monotes dasyanthus var. heterotrichus, M. duvigneaudii var. concolor, M. rubriglans subsp. upembensis var. griseocoriaceus). Eleven new combinations are made. Monotes hypoleucus is extended, to include var. angolensis, var. caloneurus, var. discolor, var. hypoleucus, and var. loandensis. Lectotypes are designated for M. adenophyllus var. homblei, M. dasyanthus var. dasyanthus forma sericea, M. dasyanthus var. mutetetwa, M. dawei, M. glaber, M. hirtii, M. hypoleucus, M. hypoleucus var. angolensis, M. hypoleucus var. caloneurus, M. kapiriensis, M. katangensis, M. magnificus var. albidus, M. magnificus var. paucipilosus, and M. schmitzii. Four supposed Angolan endemics (M. carrissoanus, M. dawei, M. hutchinsonianus, M. noldeae) and one supposed Congolian endemic (M. schmitzii) are refuted as forms without taxonomic standing. Another three are no longer endemic to Angola because of material collected in D.R. Congo (M. hypoleucus var. loandensis, M. pearsonii, M. rubriglans). In the current state of knowledge, eight taxa are endemic to D.R. Congo (Monotes doryphorus, M. duvigneaudii var. duvigneaudii, M. duvigneaudii var. concolor, M. hirtii, M. hypoleucus var. angolensis f. oxyphyllinus, M. magnificus var. gigantophyllus, M. rubriglans subsp. upembensis var. upembensis and M. rubriglans subsp. upembensis var. griseocoriaceus). The Upper Katanga region appears to represent the most prominent centre of diversity for the genus. Additional field work and collecting is necessary to complete the description of several taxa.

One new species and three new combinations in neotropical Thelypteridaceae are proposed here. Steiropteris alstonii sp. nov. is from Colombia and known only from the type locality. New combinations are proposed in the genera Amauropelta, Christella, and Goniopteris.

In the paper two new species of the genus Rhyzobius Stephens, 1829 (R. antiquus sp. nov. and R. gratiosus sp. nov.) and one new species of the genus Nephus Mulsant 1846 (N. subcircularis sp. nov. without a certain subgeneric placement) from the Lowermost Eocene amber of Oise are described. A short review of known fossil records of the family Coccinellidae is given.

Four additional species of quill mites of the family Syringophilidae Lavoipierre have now been recorded in England. This includes one new species, Bubophilus aluconis sp. nov., which parasitizes the tawny owl Strix aluco (Strigiformes: Strigidae). It differs from other species of this genus, B. ascalaphus Philips et Norton, 1978 and B. asiobius Skoracki et Bochkov, 2002 by the number of chambers in transverse branch of the peritremes (2-3), the length ratio of setae vi and ve (1:1.6-2), and the lengths of the stylophore and aggenital setae ag1 (180 and 135-145, respectively).

Type specimens were re-examined and additional samples studied morphologically and chemically. One new species,Ocellularia upretiiS. One new species and three new distribution records for the family Crangonidae (Crustacea: Decapoda) are reported from Western Australia. A new species, Philocheras gardenensis sp. nov. is described and illustrated based on specimens collected from the Western Australia. The new species closely resembles Philocheras fasciatus (Risso, 1816), but can be distinguished easily by the absence of lobe-like folds on either side of the middle line of the carapace, the presence of a lateral carina extending from the branchiostegal spine, the longer middorsal carina and distolateral tooth of the antennal scale. A key for the genus Philocheras is provided, including currently, a total of 58 species and subspecies reported worldwide. Range extensions of three Crangonid shrimps are reported within Australia, and they are Philocheras obliquus (Fulton & Grant, 1902), Pontocaris arafurae (Bruce, 1988) and Vercoia gibbosa Baker, 1904.

A survey of freshwater fungi on submerged wood in China and Thailand resulted in the collection of three species in Dictyocheirospora and four species in Dictyosporium including two new species in the latter genus. Morphological characters and phylogenetic analyses based on ITS, LSU and TEF1α sequence data support their placement in Dictyocheirospora and Dictyosporium (Dothideomycetes). An updated backbone tree is provided for the family Dothideomycetes. Descriptions and illustrations of the new taxa and re-collections are provided. Four new combinations are proposed for Dictyocheirospora.

Abstract The phylogeny and systematics of cordycipitoid fungi have been extensively studied in the last two decades. However, systematic positions of some taxa in the family Cordycipitaceae have not yet been thoroughly resolved. In this study, a new phylogenetic framework of Cordycipitaceae is reconstructed using multigene (nrSSU, nrLSU, tef-1α, rpb1 and rpb2) sequence data with large-scale taxon sampling. In addition, ITS sequence data of species belonging to the Lecanicillium lineage in the family Cordycipitaceae are used to further determine their phylogenetic placements. Based on molecular phylogenetic data together with morphological evidence, two new genera (Flavocillium and Liangia), 16 new species and four new combinations are introduced. In the new genus Flavocillium, one new species F. bifurcatum and three new combinations previously described as Lecanicillium, namely F. acerosium, F. primulinium and F. subprimulinium, are proposed. The genus Liangia is built by the new species Lia. sinensis with Lecanicillium-like asexual morph, isolated from an entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria yunnanensis. Due to the absence of Paecilomyces hepiali, an economically and medically significant fungus, in the earlier phylogenetic analyses, its systematic position has been puzzling in both business and academic communities for a long time. Here, P. hepiali is recharacterized using the holotype material along with seven additional samples. It is assigned to the genus Samsoniella (Cordycipitaceae, Hypocreales) possessing Cordyceps-like sexual morph and Isaria-like asexual morph, and thus a new combination, namely S. hepiali is proposed. An additional nine new species in Samsoniella are described: S. alpina, S. antleroides, S. cardinalis, S. cristata, S. lanmaoa, S. kunmingensis, S. ramosa, S. tortricidae and S. yunnanensis. Four new species in Cordyceps are described: C. chaetoclavata, C. cocoonihabita, C. shuifuensis and C. subtenuipes. Simplicillium yunnanense, isolated from synnemata of Akanthomyces waltergamsii, is described as a new species.

Echinoderms of the Middle Ordovician Platteville and lower Galena Groups of north-central Illinois and south-central Wisconsin are represented by at least seven classes including the Homoiostelea, Cystoidea, Crinoidea, Stelleroidea, Edrioasteroidea, Cyclocystoidea, Echinoidea, and possibly Holothuroidea. The most abundant and diverse echinoderms are monocyclic and dicyclic inadunate and camerate crinoids, of which the cupulocrinids and glyptocrinids are best represented. Thirteen new species and one new genus of crinoids are described:Cremacrinus guttenbergensis, Anulocrinus forrestonensis, Isotomocrinus minutus, Carabocrinus oogyi, Dendrocrinus? springeri, Merocrinus britonensis, Cupulocrinus plattevillensis, C. molanderi, Reteocrinus rocktonensis, R. spinosus, Traskocrinus mahlburgi(n. gen. et sp.),Rhaphanocrinus buckleyi, Glyptocrinus charltoni, andG. pustulosis.One new species of rhombiferan cystoid,Coronocystis durandensis, is also described. Echinoids of the family Bothriocidaridae (Bothriocidaris solemin. sp. andNeobothriocidaris templetonin. sp.) are reported for the first time from North America and appear to be the earliest recorded occurrence. Remains of a third bothriocidarid characterized by coalesced podial pores have also been discovered. Light and scanning electron microscopy of well preserved cyclocystoid specimens reveal a number of previously undescribed morphologic features of the central disc and submarginal ring that may shed some light on their functional morphology.Cupulocrinus gracilisRamsbottom from the Upper Drummuck Group Starfish Bed at Thraive Glen near Girvan, Scotland, is here reassigned toC. drummuckensisn. sp.Echinoderms are associated with an abundant and diverse fauna consisting largely of suspension feeders, primarily strophomenid and orthid brachiopods and trepostome and cryptostome bryozoans. Other common groups include corals, trilobites, sponges, and mollusks. Filamentous brown, foliose red and siphonaceous green algae are associated with the fauna at some localities.Carbonate rocks of both the limestone and dolostone facies of the Platteville (Briton, Walgreen and Forreston Members) and lower Galene Groups in the study area consist primarily of abundant shelly invertebrates occurring as whole and broken, unabraded, commonly articulated remains “floating” in a calcisiltite matrix that is highly bioturbated. Carbonate sediments appear to have been deposited in a near-to below wave base, highly stable, open marine environment characterized by low depositional slopes, good circulation and low terrigenous influx.

We present an annotated and illustrated catalogue of fifty type specimens of Afrotropical Tortricidae deposited in the insect collection of the Royal Museum for Central Africa. In addition to primary types, paratypes and/or paralectotypes are described and illustrated when available. Also, syntypes of the treated species deposited in other museums are listed and discussed. The taxonomic position of each species is reviewed. Three genera are described as new: Cornips Razowski, Nepheloploce Razowski, and Recaraceria Razowski. One new species, Cornips gravidspinatus Razowki, is described from the type series of Tortrix dryocausta Meyrick.
