A Validation Study of the Posthumous Organ Donation Reasoned Action Scale

The posthumous organ donation reasoned action scale (PODRAS) may be the first multidimensional scale measuring individuals’ perceptions, which is developed based on the Theory of Reasoned Action and guided by empirical data. This study moves further to validate the scale and examine its psychometric properties. Two hundred and twenty-one university students participated in the study. Results suggested that the scale has a structure with six dimensions: Mutilation and Imperfectness, Legacy for Family, Altruism, Detachment, Eradication of Hope, and Burden on Family. The scale was evaluated with acceptable to good psychometric properties and model fit (χ2/ df = 1.58; root mean square error of approximation = .07; standardized root mean square residual = .08; comparative fit index = .92; incremental fit index = .92; Tucker–Lewis index = .90). Construct validity was also supported. The study has significant contributions that theoretically, the scale proposed a conceptualization framework in understanding posthumous organ donation, whereas methodologically, the scale serves as a tool that facilitates future studies of organ donation behaviors.

RESUMO Objetivo: Conduzir uma discussão sobre as estratégias adotadas para avaliação da estrutura fatorial de instrumentos psicométricos utilizando como exemplo os modelos fatoriais do Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ). Métodos: Foram avaliados sete modelos fatoriais diferentes do BSQ, que foram obtidos por meio de análise fatorial exploratória (AFE) e estão apresentados na literatura. A análise fatorial confirmatória desses modelos foi realizada para a amostra de estudo utilizando-se aos índices qui-quadrado pelos graus de liberdade (χ2/gl), Comparative Fit Index (CFI), Tucker-Lewis index (TLI), Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) e Weighted Root Mean Square Residual (WRMR). As validades convergente e discriminante foram avaliadas a partir da variância extraída média e do coeficiente de determinação entre os fatores do BSQ, respectivamente. A confiabilidade dos modelos foi avaliada a partir da confiabilidade composta e do coeficiente alfa de Cronbach. Resultados: Participaram 739 universitárias com média de idade de 20,4 (desvio-padrão = 2,4) anos. Todos os modelos apresentaram adequado ajustamento para a amostra de estudo, contudo a validade discriminante esteve comprometida neles. A confiabilidade dos modelos também foi adequada. Conclusão: Apesar de todos os modelos testados do BSQ apresentarem bons indicadores psicométricos, salienta-se que eles foram obtidos em amostras diferentes utilizando-se AFE e sem justificativa teórica plausível para a construção dos fatores, o que pode dificultar a escolha de um modelo para utilização em ambiente clínico. Assim, diante da importância de preservação do conceito teórico durante o desenvolvimento do instrumento, sugere-se cautela na utilização de modelos sem sustentação teórica.

Zusammenfassung. Zur Erfassung der 3 Emotionsregulationsstrategien Unterdrücken, Anpassen / Neubewerten und Akzeptieren wurde der Affective Style Questionnaire für Jugendliche (ASQ-Y) adaptiert und an einer entsprechenden Stichprobe (N = 1 092) validiert. Die Dimensionalität des englischen Originalfragebogens und der deutschen Version für Erwachsene konnte auch für Jugendliche bestätigt werden. Während der Analyse kam das ESEM-Verfahren (Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling) zum Einsatz, die Kennwerte bewegten sich im akzeptablen bis sehr guten Bereich. Der Comparative Fit Index (CFI) erreichte einen akzeptablen Wert von .938, ebenso der Tucker–Lewis Index (TLI) mit einem Wert von .911. Der Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) lag bei einem sehr guten Wert von .050, das Standardized Root Mean Square Residual (SRMR) erreichte einen guten Wert von .030. Die internen Konsistenzen der 3 Skalen (Unterdrücken: α = .77; Anpassen / Neubewerten: α = .76; Akzeptieren: α = .76) erreichten (vergleichbar mit dem englischen Original und der deutschen Erwachsenenstichprobe) zufriedenstellende Werte. Die Subskalen zeigten hypothesenkonforme diskriminante und konvergente Zusammenhänge mit etablierten Verfahren des Forschungsbereichs Emotionsregulation, was für die Konstruktvalidität spricht. Insgesamt ist der ASQ-Y als Messinstrument zur Erfassung von verschiedenen Emotionsregulationsstrategien bei Jugendlichen geeignet und ökonomisch in seiner Anwendung. Der ASQ-Y kann in der Allgemeinbevölkerung und in der Prävention eingesetzt werden. Nach entsprechender Validierung ist der Einsatz auch im klinischen Setting möglich.

Resumo Este estudo analisou as propriedades psicométricas da versão brasileira do Questionário sobre Conhecimento de Doenças Sexualmente Transmissíveis (STD-KQ). Participou uma amostra de conveniência de 429 estudantes de uma universidade pública brasileira. A análise fatorial exploratória sugere uma estrutura com um fator (variância explicada = 61,1%; eigenvalue = 7,2), sendo corroborada pela análise confirmatória (Root Mean Square Error of Approximation = 0,04; Comparative Fit Index = 0,91; Tucker-Lewis Index = 0,90; Standardized Root Mean Square Residual = 0,05). Cinco itens apresentaram carga menor que 0,30 e por isso foram excluídos. O instrumento demonstrou consistência interna (confiabilidade composta = 0,97; alfa de Cronbach = 0,83) e estabilidade temporal (correlação de Pearson = 0, 86; kappa = 0,16) para um curto período. O conhecimento significativamente variou conforme a idade, o sexo e o curso. Concluindo, o presente estudo destaca as satisfatórias propriedades psicométricas da versão brasileira do STD-KQ em estudantes universitários.

RESUMO Introdução: O bem-estar subjetivo é um construto referente à percepção que as pessoas têm de sua vida e à avaliação que dela fazem. Objetivo: O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar as propriedades psicométricas da Escala de Satisfação com a Vida no contexto esportivo brasileiro. Métodos: Participaram do estudo 593 atletas (371 homens), sendo 180 (30,4%) praticantes de modalidades individuais e 413 (69,4%) de modalidades coletivas. Por meio de análise fatorial exploratória e confirmatória, foi possível verificar que os itens carregaram em apenas um domínio, com índices de ajuste adequados (comparative fit index [CFI] = 0,99; Tucker-Lewis Index [TLI] = 0,98; standardized root mean square residual [SRMR] = 0,016; standardized root mean square error of approximation [RMSEA] = 0,026), confirmando o pressuposto de unidimensionalidade do construto. Resultados: Os resultados encontrados indicaram boa consistência interna (α = 0,804) e correlação estatisticamente significante entre todos os itens (p < 0,05). A análise de covariância demonstrou que a satisfação com a vida foi influenciada pela idade (F [4,568] p < 0,033), ou seja, a pontuação do instrumento variou em função da idade do respondente. Conclusão: Concluiu-se que a Escala de Satisfação com a Vida apresenta excelentes propriedades psicométricas para o uso em atletas, constituindo uma opção viável para a mensuração da satisfação com a vida no contexto esportivo. Nível de Evidência I; Teste de critérios diagnósticos desenvolvidos anteriormente em pacientes consecutivos (com padrão de referência “ouro” aplicado).

Abstract Objectives To develop and examine the psychometric properties of the Caring Behaviors Assessment Tool Nursing Version-Short Form (CBAN-SF) based on the Theory of Human Caring to assess the nurses’ perceptions about caring behaviors. Design This study is based on the Consensus-based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments checklist. Setting The study was conducted at the medical-surgical services of Akdeniz University Hospital between October 2019 and January 2020. Participants This study was conducted with 216 nurses working in the surgery and internal clinics. Main Outcome Measures Psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the CBAN-SF with 27 items. Results It was found that the Content Validity Index (CVI) for the items of the draft scale was between 0.972 and 1.00 and the instrument’s CVI had an average score of 0.994. The CBAN-SF had good fit indexes (chi-square goodness of fit / degrees of freedom = 2.914, root mean square error of approximation = 0.075, comparative fit index = 0.984, non-normed fit index = 0.983, normed fit index = 0.972 and standardized root mean square residuals = 0.054) in structural validity. For internal consistency, the Cronbach’s alpha, Spearman–Brown and the Guttman split-half coefficients were all 0.974. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for the seven subfactors of the scale ranged between 0.793 and 0.904 and had acceptable internal consistency. The item-total score correlation of the scale was 0.648–0.829, and the factor loadings were 0.455–0.769. Conclusion The structural validity, internal consistency and content validity of the CBAN-SF supported to be a reliable and valid tool for assessment of caring behaviors by nurses.

The process of assessing executive functions through behavioral observation scales is still under theoretical and empirical construction. This article reports on the analysis of the factorial structure of the EOCL-1 scale that assesses executive functions, as proposed by the theory developed by Luria, which has not been previously considered in this type of evaluation. In this scale, the executive functions taken into account are error correction, internal behavioral and cognition regulatory language, limbic system conscious regulation, decision making, future consideration of consequences of actions, goal-directed behavior, inhibitory control of automatic responses, creation of new behavioral repertoires, and cognitive–behavioral activity verification. A variety of validity and reliability analyses were carried out, with the following results: (a) an adequate internal consistency level of executive functions between α = 0.70 and α = 0.83, (b) significant convergent validity with a scale that assesses frontal deficits between r = −0.07 and r = 0.28, and (c) the scale’s construct validity that proposes a model with an executive central factor comparative fit index (CFI) = 0.93, root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) = 0.04 (LO.04 and HI.04), standardized root mean square residual (SRMR) = 0.04, and x2(312) = 789.29, p = 0.001. The findings are discussed based on previous literature reports and in terms of the benefits of using a scale to assess the proposed executive functions.

Adult sportspersons (Masters athletes, aged 35 years and older) have unique coaching preferences. No existing resources provide coaches with feedback on their craft with Masters athletes. Three studies evaluated an Adult-Oriented Coaching Survey. Study 1 vetted the face validity of 50 survey items with 12 Masters coaches. Results supported the validity of 48 items. In Study 2, 383 Masters coaches completed the survey of 50 items. Confirmatory factor analysis and exploratory structural equation modeling indicated issues with model fit. Post hoc modifications improved fit, resulting in a 22-item, five-factor model. In Study 3, 467 Masters athletes responded to these 22 items reflecting perceptions of their coaches. Confirmatory factor analysis (comparative fit index = .951, standardized root mean square residual = .036, and root mean square error of approximation = .049) and exploratory structural equation modeling (comparative fit index = .977, standardized root mean square residual = .019, and root mean square error of approximation = .041) confirmed the model. The resultant Adult-Oriented Sport Coaching Survey provides a reliable and factorially valid instrument for measuring adult-oriented coaching practices.

The objective of the present study was to validate and adapt the Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-Stigma (AAQ-S) to the Spanish context. Method: The study included the participation of 1212 subjects, with an average age of 17.12 years old. Results: The confirmatory factorial analysis revealed a number of adequate fit indices for the new version of the scale χ2/df = 3.24; Comparative Fit Index = 0.96; Incremental Fit Index = 0.96; Root Mean Square Error of Approximation = 0.060; Standardized Root Mean Square Residual = 0.035, in which the factorial structures displayed gender invariance. The two factors comprise the scale both exhibited high internal consistency (+0.90) and temporal stability. Conclusion: The Spanish version of the AAQ-S proved to be a robust and adequate psychometric instrument. In this sense, future lines of research focused on determining the role of psychological flexibility in stigma and the processes of change at the base of interventions could benefit substantially from the use of AAQ-S.

The study was designed to estimate the psychometric properties of Hastings and Brown’s (2002a) Difficult Behavior Self-efficacy Scale. Participants were two samples of physical educators teaching in Korea (n = 229) and the United States (U.S.; n = 139). An initial translation of the questionnaire to Korean and pilot study were conducted along with the larger study using a confirmatory factor analysis procedure. Internal consistency estimates (weighed Omega) for the five-item scale were 0.88 both the Korean and U.S. samples. The average variances extracted for the one factor were 0.59 for the total data set and 0.57 each for the Korean and U.S. samples. Confirmatory factor analysis supported a five-item, unidimensional model for self-efficacy for the total sample: Goodness of Fit Index (GFI) = 0.97, Nonnormed Fit Index (NNFI) = 0.95, Comparative Fit Index (CFI) = 0.98, and Standardized Root Mean Square Residual (SRMR) = 0.03. Only the Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA = 0.12) fell below criterion levels of acceptable fit, with similar fit indices occurring in separate analyses of the Korean and U.S. samples. Invariance testing across the two samples supported metric invariance (similarity of factor loadings) but not scalar invariance (U.S. means higher on all five items). The factor structure for the self-efficacy scale provides an initial estimate of validity and internal consistency for use with different teacher groups.

The Maslach Burnout Inventory–General Survey (MBI-GS) is a widely used scale that measures burnout in the general professions. Debate persists regarding the factor structure of the MBI-GS, and there is scarce empirical evidence about the reliability, validity, and measurement invariance of the MBI-GS in Spanish-speaking samples. Moreover, the psychometric properties of the MBI-GS have not been analyzed in Colombia. This study aimed to analyze the internal consistency, factor structure, measurement invariance, and convergent validity of the MBI-GS in a large sample of Colombian workers. The MBI-GS was administered to a total sample of 978 workers from three private companies in Bogotá (66.9% males, 32.7% females, 0.4% other). All subscales showed adequate internal consistency (alphas ranging from 0.72 to 0.86). The three-factor model demonstrated a very good fit to the data (root mean square error of approximation − RMSEA = 0.05, comparative fit index − CFI = 0.99, non-normed fit index − NNFI = 0.98, and standardized root mean square residual − SRMR = 0.06). The measurement invariance both at a metric and scalar level was supported across gender, age group, and socioeconomic status. The MBI-GS subscales showed the expected correlations with job satisfaction, work engagement, psychological distress, and psychological inflexibility. In conclusion, the Spanish version of the MBI-GS demonstrated good psychometric properties in a Colombian sample.
