AbstractPleomorphic adenoma is a benign neoplasm of the salivary glands that affects most frequently females in the fourth and sixth decade of life. As it is usually an asymptomatic lesion, it is diagnosed upon routine physical examination. Treatment consists in surgical removal with partial or total involvement of the parotid gland. Conservative enucleation is the least invasive surgical option for this type of lesion. The present work aimed to report a case of pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid gland with eight years of evolution. The tumor was treated conservatively. Patient has been followed for sixth months, and no sensory alterations, fistulae, clinical signs of recurrence, nor any other alteration have been observed so far. Due to the benign nature of the lesion, an evolution with favorable prognosis is expected. Keywords: Adenoma. Benign Neoplasia. Abstract Introduction After pleomorphic adenoma, Warthin tumor gets its popularity as the second most common benign neoplasm of the parotid gland. Fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is the most cost-effective and minimally-invasive way to determine the histological character of a parotid gland tumor. Objective To determine the accuracy of FNAC in the diagnosis of Warthin Tumour. Methods A retrospective study conducted between 2014 and 2018. Out of 243 FNACs performed for parotid lesions, a histopathological correlation was established in 74 cases to reveal the accuracy of FNAC in the diagnosis of Warthin tumor. Results A total of 243 FNACs of parotid lesions were performed, and a histopathological correlation was established in 74 (30.4%) cases. Later on, we confirmed that 16 (21.6%) out of these 74 patients had cases of Warthin tumor. In total, 15 (20.3%) out of those 74 cases were confirmed as Warthin tumors on the initial cytology, which revealed a true positive concordance between the cytology and the final histological diagnosis; 55/74 (74%) were true negative results; on the other hand, 1/74 (1.4%) was a false negative, and 3/74 (4.1%) were false positive results. The sensitivity of the FNAC in the diagnosis of Warthin tumor was of 93%, while the specificity was of 94.8%, and the accuracy, of 94.6%. Conclusion In the present study, FNAC had a high diagnostic accuracy, reaching 94%.

Objectives: To find out the histological types of parotid neoplasm and to correlate thefindings of FNAC and final histological report in parotid gland neoplasm. Methods: A total 30 cases were studied from the inpatient departments of General Surgeryand Otolaryngology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka sinceJuly, 2011 to April, 2013. Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) was done in all cases andcompared with histopathology finding of postoperative specimen. Result: Regarding sex distribution benign neoplasm in female 13 (56.52%) and in male10(43.47%). As to the malignant parotid neoplasm in female 4(57.14%) and in male3(42.85%). All parotid neoplasm male: female ratio 1:1.3. Two cases involved in deep lobeof parotid & presented with inward and forward bulging of tonsil and pillars. Three cases ofwarthin'stumour only presented with swelling in the tail of parotid gland. In this series outof 30 cases of parotid neoplasm 23 (76.66%) cases were benign and rest 07 (23.33%)were malignant. Pleomorphic adenoma was the most common benign neoplasm 20(66.66%). Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma was most common malignancy 3 (10%) followed byadenoid cystic carcinoma 2 (6.66%). Out of 7, 3 were stage 3(42.85%) and 3 were stage4(42.85%). In histological grading 3 were low grade (42.85%) and 4 were high grade(57.14%). All the patient werepartotidectomy. Few were treated by radical parotidectomyplus radiotherapy. Conclusion: Though it is a small series to comment on the whole spectrum of the parotidgland neoplasm in Bangladesh, yet an idea about the frequency of disease can be establishedbut actual incidence in Bangladesh as a whole can not be ascertained from thisstudy. Parotid glands were obtained from five adult (four male and one female) armadillos (Dasypus novemcinctus) which were perfusion-fixed. The glands were located in a position similar to that of most mammals. They extended interiorly to the anterior portion of the submandibular gland. In the light microscope, it was noted that the acini were relatively small and stained strongly positive with the periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) and alcian blue techniques, confirming the earlier results of Shackleford (1). Based on these qualities and other structural criteria, these cells have been classified as seromucous (2). The duct system was well developed. There were numerous intercalated ducts and intralobular striated ducts. The striated duct cells contained large amounts of PAS-positive substance.Thin sections revealed that the acinar cells were pyramidal in shape and contained a basally placed, slightly flattened nucleus (Fig. 1). The rough endoplasmic reticulum was also at the base of the cell.

Myoepithelial cells have been observed in the prostate, harderian, apocrine, exocrine sweat and mammary glands. Such cells and their numerous branching processes form basket-like structures around the glandular acini. Their shapes are quite different from structures seen either in spindleshaped smooth muscle cells or skeletal muscle cells. These myoepithelial cells lie on the epithelial side of the basement membrane in the glands. This presentation describes the ultrastructure of such myoepithelial cells which have been found also in the parotid gland carcinoma from a 45-year old patient.Specimens were cut into small pieces about 1 mm3 and immediately fixed in 4 percent glutaraldehyde in phosphate buffer for two hours, then post-fixed in 1 percent buffered osmium tetroxide for 1 hour. After dehydration, tissues were embedded in Epon 812. Thin sections were stained with uranyl acetate and lead citrate. Ultrastructurally, the pattern of each individual cell showed wide variations.

Within the last few years, adrenal cortical tumors with features concordant with the diagnostic criteria attributed to oncocytomas have been reported. To date, only nine reported cases exist in the literature. This report is the tenth case presentation of a presumptively benign neoplasm of the adrenal gland with a rare differentiation. Oncocytomas are well recognized benign tumors of the thyroid, parathyroid, and salivary glands and of the kidney. Other organs also give rise to these types of tumors, however with less frequency than the former sites. The characteristics generally used to classify a tumor as an oncocytoma include the following criteria: the tumor is 1) usually a solitary circumscribed mass with no gross nor microscopic evidence of metastasis (no tissue nor vascular invasion), 2) fairly bland in terms of mitotic activity and nuclear morphology, and 3) composed of large eosinophillic cells in which the cytoplasm is packed full of mitochondria (Figure 1).
