The vector form intrinsic finite element (VFIFE) method is springing up as a new numerical method in strong non-linear structural analysis for its good convergence, but has been constricted in static or transient analysis. To overwhelm its disadvantages, a new damping model was proposed: the value of damping force is proportional to relative velocity instead of absolute velocity, which could avoid inaccuracy in high-speed dynamic analysis. The accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method proved under low speed; dynamic characteristics and vibration rules have been verified under high speed. Simulation results showed that the modified VFIFE method could obtain numerical solutions with good efficiency and accuracy. Based on this modified method, high-speed vibration rules of spiral bevel gear pair under different loads have been concluded. The proposed method also provides a new way to solve high-speed rotor system dynamic problems.

High-speed heavy-load spiral bevel gears put forward high requirement for flexural strength; shot peening is a technique that greatly improves the bending fatigue strength of gears. During shot peening, a large number of fine pellets bombard the surface of the metal target material at very high speeds and let the target material undergo plastic deformation, at the same time strengthening layer is produced. Spiral bevel gear as the object of being bombarded inevitably brought the tooth surface micro-morphology changes. In this article, we aim to reveal the effect of microtopography of tooth shot peening on gear lubrication in spiral bevel gear, try to establish a reasonable description of the microscopic morphology for tooth surface by shot peening, to reveal the lubrication characteristics of spiral bevel gears after shot peening treatment based on the lubrication theory, and do comparative research on the surface lubrication characteristics of a variety of microstructures.

Spiral bevel gear is widely used in various mechanical transmission systems, such as tractor transmission system. Because it is mainly used in the heavy-load conditions, it would most likely resonate within the rated speed, resulting in tooth fatigue damage. In this paper, based on the principle of meshing and gear tooth machining, the spherically involute tooth profile equation of spiral bevel gear is deduced and the precise modeling method based on the CATIA is studied. The natural frequency and modal shape under free vibration are obtained by the finite element method (FEM), the influence of web thickness and web hole on the natural frequency of driven gear plate is analyzed as well. In addition, the experimental modal of bevel gear pair is carried out based on a multiple-reference impact test, Modal Assurance Criterion (MAC) is calculated, the three-dimensional modeling accuracy and the finite element analysis reliability are verified. The results show that the error between the measured frequency of bevel gear pair and the calculated frequency of the finite element simulation are both within 5%, and the MAC is above 0.8. The fourth-order natural frequency is the most sensitive to the web thickness, the second-order natural frequency is the most sensitive to the web hole.

A spiral bevel gear is subject to a special load in ultrasonic lapping, which is not only a processing object but also a processing tool, it is necessary to study dynamic characteristics of an ultrasonic vibration system. First, the spiral bevel gear is reasonably simplified to a frustum, which is then combined with a horn to form a new type of composite horn. Based on the theory of plane longitudinal wave propagation, the resonance mathematical model of the gear’s ultrasonic vibration system is established, and the frequency equation of the vibration system with gear characteristic parameters is obtained. Second, the frequency and displacement characteristics of an ultrasonic vibration system are analyzed by means of design examples, and the influence of the law of gear characteristic parameters on dynamic characteristics of the vibration system is studied. Finally, ultrasonic lapping and vibration measurement experiments are carried out using two pairs of different hypoid gears. The results show that the change in dynamic characteristics of an ultrasonic vibration system has a large influence on the finished machining quality of the gear. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the gear characteristic parameters when ultrasonic vibration system is designed. The research results provide an accurate theoretical basis for the detailed design of an ultrasonic lapping vibration system.

High speed and heavy load put forward demanding requirements for the bending strength of spiral bevel gear. Shot peening, as a technological method, can greatly improve the bending strength of gear. During shot peening, a large number of subtle projectiles bombard the tooth surface of spiral bevel gear at an extremely high speed, which makes the latter produce plastic deformation and strengthened layer. Serving as the bombarded target, spiral bevel gear inevitably leads to the change of tooth surfaces microstructure. This paper aims at revealing the coupling law between microstructure and lubrication characteristics and establishing a reasonable model that can describe the tooth surface microstructure of shot peened spiral bevel gear. Besides, this paper brings insight into the lubrication characteristics of shot peened spiral bevel gears. Based on the elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) theory, a comparative research on tooth surface lubrication characteristics has been conducted by various microscopic morphologies in this study.
