In this article, we look at the determinants of the new technology adoption by consumers in the case of mobile telecommunications. The dynamic nature of the telecom industry is a result of the frequent technological change. Consumers witness different technology standards in mobile communications, starting from the first generation (1G) to second generation (2G) subsequently to third (3G) and now experiencing fourth (4G) in some countries such as Norway, Sweden, South Korea, and the USA including ours. The movement from one standard to the other has been predicted to be smooth as all of them are vertical substitutes for each other. Given the various dimensions such as price, requirements, utility and so on, these technology standards are not perfect substitutes. The article investigates the prospect of a new technology standard roll out in India. A survey of 400 mobile phone customers in metro telecom circles has been carried out for this purpose. The study applies structural equation modeling (SEM) and explores the adoption intention of this new technology among the respondents. Results show that the presence of low-cost alternatives that is the availability of a lower technology standard poses a significant hurdle to the adoption of new technology services.

Physical evidence has been widely accepted as variable that has impact on satisfaction, specifically in airline service. However, this study showed some opposite result for low cost airlines in Indonesia. It revealed that physical evidence has no effect on the passengers’ satisfaction but the fares and its service quality to passengers.’ This study collected sample of 317 passengers from commercial domestic flights at terminal 1, 2, and 3 at Soekarno Hatta airport in Cengkareng, Indonesia. The variables used in this study were: fares, service quality, physical evidence, passengers’ satisfaction levels and repeat buying. Two variables, i.e.: service quality and physical evidence were treated as second order. This study used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) for verification analysis. The result revealed that there was no effect of physical evidence on the passengers’ satisfaction. It also found that repeat buying demonstrated the passengers’ satisfaction.

This chapter attempts to study the intentions to use cloud-based CRM applications through a combination between a Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and a Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). To test the different links identified in the research model, a research questionnaire was prepared and sent to marketing managers within Saudi SMEs in Saudi Arabia. A total of 41 useful questionnaires were collected. The authors opted to the structural equation modeling (SEM) using the Partial Least Squares (PLS) to analyze data. The tests are prepared with XLstat software since it integrates both factor analysis and PLS modules. Among the main statistical analyses, the authors conclude that the TPB-TAM is suitable to study cloud CRM. From a managerial perspective, the authors expect that cloud CRM is perceived with good impression and that this new technology should be implemented strongly and gradually in SMEs to improve the quality of services provided to customers and organizations.

The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of service quality on passenger loyalty as well as the mediating roles of relationship quality (perceives value, passenger trust, and satisfaction). The survey was conducted with a total of 321 passengers who have used low-cost airline service in the domestic terminal in Tan Son Nhat airport, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; then the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was estimated using the SmartPLS 3.0 program. The results indicated that service quality positively impacted passenger loyalty. Moreover, this study provided empirical evidence about the mediating roles of perceived value, airline image, passenger trust, and satisfaction. The finding also suggested that airline managers should understand the customers’ expectations and passenger loyalty regarding low-cost airlines to attract new customers as well as retain their existing customers.

It is shown that a minimal assumption should be added to the assumptions of Classical Test Theory (CTT) in order to have positive inter-item correlations, which are regarded as a basis for the aggregation of items. Moreover, it is shown that the assumption of zero correlations between the error score estimates is substantially violated in the population of individuals when the number of items is small. Instead, a negative correlation between error score estimates occurs. The reason for the negative correlation is that the error score estimates for different items of a scale are based on insufficient true score estimates when the number of items is small. A test of the assumption of uncorrelated error score estimates by means of structural equation modeling (SEM) is proposed that takes this effect into account. The SEM-based procedure is demonstrated by means of empirical examples based on the Edinburgh Handedness Inventory and the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised.

Abstract. Given the fact that most of the dark personality measures are developed based on data collected in low-stake settings, the present study addresses the appropriateness of their use in high-stake contexts. Specifically, we examined item- and scale-level differential functioning of the Short Dark Triad (SD3; Paulhus & Jones, 2011 ) measure across testing contexts. The Short Dark Triad was administered to applicant ( N = 457) and non-applicant ( N = 592) samples. Item- and scale-level invariances were tested using an Item Response Theory (IRT)-based approach and a Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach, respectively. Results show that more than half of the SD3 items were flagged for Differential Item Functioning (DIF), and Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling (ESEM) results supported configural, but not metric invariance. Implications for theory and practice are discussed.

Abstract. This study used a longitudinal data set of 5,672 adults followed for 50 years to determine the factors that influence adult trait Openness-to-Experience. In a large, nationally representative sample in the UK (the National Child Development Study), data were collected at birth, in childhood (age 11), adolescence (age 16), and adulthood (ages 33, 42, and 50) to examine the effects of family social background, childhood intelligence, school motivation during adolescence, education, and occupation on the personality trait Openness assessed at age 50 years. Structural equation modeling showed that parental social status, childhood intelligence, school motivation, education, and occupation all had modest, but direct, effects on trait Openness, among which childhood intelligence was the strongest predictor. Gender was not significantly associated with trait Openness. Limitations and implications of the study are discussed.
