Simplified calculation model for load-bearing cold-formed steel composite walls under fire conditions

The conventional simplified model only restricts the bending buckling around the minor axis and overall torsional buckling, which is not suitable for external sandwiched cold-formed steel composite walls. Moreover, a solution to stud–track connections must be achieved in establishing the overall structure model. In this article, a simplified calculation model is proposed to accurately and efficiently reveal the fire performance of cold-formed steel composite walls. A tension spring is adopted to simulate the boundary condition that limits the axial thermal expansion of the studs at elevated temperature. Meanwhile, the simplified applications of the panel constraints and stud–track connections are also given in details. Finite element analysis using the developed simplified calculation model is conducted to simulate five full-scale cold-formed steel composite walls with different configurations. Comparisons between the finite element analysis and fire test results show an overall agreement on the failure modes, cold flange temperatures and lateral deflections at mid-height of the studs. These results demonstrate that the developed simplified calculation model is able to simulate the fire performance and predict the lateral deflection of the external sandwiched cold-formed steel composite walls accurately. Finally, the key factors affecting the lateral deflection of the studs are analysed.

This paper adopts the finite element method to study the shear resistance of the first floor cold-formed steel composite walls in six stories residential structures, plastic shell element is used, materials nonlinearity and geometric large deformation are considered. The screws connecting sheathing and frame are modeled through coupling methods. Analyzing the influence of factors such as stud spacing,Brace and rigid bracing's establishment,component wall thickness to the shear behavior of cold-formed steel composite wall, these dates can provide certain theory for the actual project.

The purpose of this research was to study the behavior of cold-formed steel cantilever truss structures. A cantilever truss structure and bolt-moment connection were tested and verified by the 3D-finite element model. The verification results showed a good correlation between an experimental test and finite element analysis. An analytical method for elastic rotational stiffness of bolt-moment connection was proposed. The equation proposed in the analytical method was used to approximate the elastic rotational stiffness of the bolt group connection, and was also applied to the Richard-Abbott model for generating the nonlinear moment-rotation curve which modeled the semi-rigid connection stiffness. The 2D-finite element analysis was applied to study the behavior of the truss connection, caused by semi-rigid connection stiffness which caused a change of force to the truss elements. The results showed that the force in the structural members increased by between 13.62%-74.32% of the axial forces, and the bending moment decreased by between 33.05%-100%. These results strongly suggest that the semi-rigid connection between cold-formed steel cantilever truss structures should be considered in structural analysis to achieve optimum design, acknowledging this as the real behavior of the structure.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the detection performance of infrared photoelectric detection system and establish stable tracking platform. Design/methodology/approach This paper puts forward making use of the finite element analysis method to set up the infrared radiation characteristics calculation model of flying target in infrared photoelectric detection system; researches the target optical characteristics based on the target imaging detection theory; sets up the heat balance equation of target’s surface node and gives the calculation method of total radiation intensity of flying target; and deduces the target detection distance calculation function; studies the changed regulation of radiation energy that charge coupled device (CCD) gain comes from target surface infrared heat radiations under different sky background luminance and different target flight attitude. Findings Through calculation and experiment analysis, the results show that when the target’s surface area increases or the target flight velocity is higher, the radiation energy that CCD obtained is higher, which is advantageous to the target stable detection in infrared photoelectric detection system. Originality/value This paper uses the finite element analysis method to set up the infrared radiation characteristics calculation model of flying target and give the calculation and experiment results; those results can provide some data and improve the design method of infrared photoelectric detection system, and it is of value.

A kind of calculating model was proposed according to the structure and load characteristics of push-back rack. On the basis of study on modeling and analysis technology using ANSYS, the finite element analysis of push-back rack was realized, which can provide reference to the design and calculation of push-back rack.
