This study examined the dynamic relationships among ethical political leadership, the public’s confidence in political leaders, commitment to the nation, and the perception of being safe from a terrorist attack. Based on a U.S. national random sample (n = 1604), we found that the public’s confidence in political leaders mediates the effect of ethical political leadership on the public’s commitment to the nation and the perception of being safe from a terrorist attack. Both theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Purpose This study aims to investigate the impact of fear of terror (FOT) on employee organizational commitment (OC) working in terror-induced areas through examining the role of rumination as a mediator and perceived organization support (POS) as a moderator. Design/methodology/approach The authors develop a model in which the mediating role of rumination in the FOT relationship is conditional to the values of OC. Using a sample size of 268 respondents, questionnaires were used to collect data from Pakistan during a period when terrorist attacks were at a peak. Results from the hierarchical regression analyses provided support for the developed model. Findings Overall, the statistical model is significant (p < 0.05); the authors found negative relationships between FOT and OC. The authors found that FOT positively led to rumination, which then negatively led to OC. It was also found that POS significantly moderated FOT and OC. Practical implications This study revealed that FOT is a deterring factor that changed employees’ OC. It further revealed that organizations providing support to employees working in terrorist-ridden areas showed positive commitment. This paper discusses the theoretical and practical implications of these findings. Originality/value This paper provides an examination of the relationship between FOT and employee OC. It expands our knowledge of the stress theory and terror management theory for employees working in discontinuous areas.

Purpose This paper aims to investigate the impact of political advertising on voter attitude and the processes of decision-making in the specific context of the inaugural democratic experience of post-revolutionary Tunisia. Design/methodology/approach The study was conducted in Tunisia, where the target respondents included Tunisian’s eligible to vote during the presidential campaign of October 2014. The study uses questionnaires for data collection using a convenience sampling technique. Findings The major findings of the study are that the persuasion power of advertising has a direct impact on voter involvement, trust and attitude towards voting. Specifically, involvement significantly influences a voter’s attitude. The hypothesis on the impact of trust on attitude, and the hypothesis related to the mediating role of trust and involvement were rejected. Research limitations/implications The study recommends specialists in political advertising and politicians themselves give consideration to the trust and involvement considerations of the Tunisian voter, to enhance and optimize the quality and credibility of political advertising in the future. Practical implications The research offers some interesting findings for professionals in political advertising, for companies operating in political research, or advertising agencies. In this context, advertising agencies need to give prescient consideration to the trust of the voter by developing a credible and believable discourse. Social implications In the context of a nascent democracy, it is very important to educate people so they become familiarized with the practices of democracy, and to give them the ability to make the right choice. The study recommends specialists in political advertising and also politicians give consideration to the trust and involvement considerations of the Tunisian voter, to enhance and optimize the quality and credibility of political advertising. Originality/value This research paper related to political advertising can be used to formulate appropriate political advertising strategies and to ameliorate and optimize the advertising discourse in the context of a nascent democracy.

Purpose This paper aims to address the discussion on the credit disbursement of US$28.6bn from Brazilian National Economic and Social Development Bank (BNDES) to Brazilian state governments during the period from 2009 to 2014. They try to identify the main drivers of the credit allocation in both cross state and time. Design/methodology/approach The authors use a dynamic balanced panel to estimate the role of technical and socioeconomic variables. Findings The results suggest that the states’ need for financing via BNDES exhibits neither inertial nor explosive behavior. The authors find an efficiency elasticity of this resource of 0.20. In addition, the impact of a positive change in the state fiscal status leads to an increase of 2.5 per cent in the indebtedness capacity. Finally, they find that wealthier states are more successful in demanding credit from BNDES. Practical implications This analysis of resource allocation is useful for modeling the determinants of international financial institutions as central planners. The authors also invite researchers to discuss the decision-making processes that characterize the federative pact in Brazil. Originality/value Although a burgeoning body of literature has examined the role of BNDES as a creditor institution for firms, its relationship with the public sector, in special subnational governments, has been rarely studied.

There is no clarity on when and why consumers prefer specific sales promotions for the green versus non-green products. This research conducts a comparative analysis through three experiments to provide a theoretical explanation. It enhances the understanding of the impact of bonus pack versus price discount promotions for different characteristics, varying purchase volume, and the effect of information on buyers’ choices. The results show that buyers do not prefer price discounts when purchasing low-involvement green products, and they do not prefer bonus packs when purchasing low-involvement non-green products. Remarkably, for high-involvement products, the buyers prefer bonus packs when purchasing green products; however, they show no specific inclination while purchasing non-green products. These effects are further influenced by emphasizing deal-savings and varying purchase volume. In addition, this research explains the reason for consumers’ deal preferences through identifying the mediating role of the anticipated regret and conditional indirect effect of perceived expertise. The findings have significant practical implications.

Abstract This article aims to identify the impact of creativity on entrepreneurial intention with the mediating role of entrepreneurial passion. This study applied the SEM-structural equation modeling technique to test the hypotheses on a sample of 390 university students from Pakistan. The findings of the study revealed that creativity positively and significantly influenced entrepreneurial intention. The results also indicated that entrepreneurial passion partially mediates in the relationship between creativity and entrepreneurial intention. The results of the study made an innovative contribution to Pakistan’s higher education sector, researchers, and policymakers to unlock the hidden potential of its youth and further contribute to designing the relevant practical implications.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to describe a gaming approach to making key theoretical ideas accessible, understandable and useful for security practitioners confronting “terrorism” in the real world. Design/methodology/approach The tool is instrumental “red-team” matrix gaming: a structured way to first build and then wargame instrumental “terrorist” attack plans. The working assumption is that “terrorist” violence is designed with purpose, and that it reflects Fromkin’s understanding that terrorism is a form of jujitsu to manipulate more powerful opponents into politically and ideologically self-destructive behaviours. By designing and gaming attack plans with political objectives as the focus, practitioners quickly gain a deeper understanding of the processes of violent influence and the role of responders and decision makers. The paper is structured to, first, provide a theoretical explanation of contemporary conflict, focussing on the public support and how violence can be differently designed to political ends. On this foundation, the methods for learning are explained. A “playing-card” technique for setting students objectives in terms of psychological levers, vulnerabilities, political purposes and influence targets is described and options for participants generating scenarios outlined. Then the matrix-gaming approach, where play progresses according to the result of a dice roll applied to a probability based on the merit of participants’ competing arguments is explained with an example. Findings The described method of creating and wargaming terrorist attack plans offers a new and engaging method of exploring and understanding the processes of terrorism while preparing practitioners by potentially developing both their decision making and resilience. Practical implications The method described has potential value for teaching about terrorism by generally improving student engagement, preparing practitioners to respond to terrorism and wider application (of matrix gaming) to other topics. Originality/value This is a novel application of matrix gaming in a simplified format suited for classrooms.

This study aimed to test and evaluate the impact of Digital Entrepreneurship and its impact on digital supply chains in Jordanian hotels, and the mediating role of digital supply chains in this relationship. The descriptive analytical method was used, and the study population consisted of (835) male and female employees, and a random sample was used with a simple random sample of (342) participants. To achieve the objectives of the study, a developed questionnaire was used to collect data from the sample members. The study adopted the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS.V.22) and Structural Equations Modeling (SEM) using the AMOS program for path analysis and to perform statistical analysis using: Descriptive and inferential statistics measures, including Multiple linear regression, Pearson correlation coefficient, skew coefficient, multiple linear correlation, variance inflation coefficient and permissible variance. The study reached results, the most important of which were: The most important results of the study were: the presence of an important impact of Digital Entrepreneurship in digital supply chains and the presence of a significant impact of Digital Entrepreneurship through business intelligence applications as an intermediate variable in digital supply chains. The study recommends the need to enhance Digital Entrepreneurship in Jordanian hotels by focusing on the holistic view of these hotels and their environment, whether the internal environment that focuses on strengths and weaknesses in the hotel’s capabilities or their external environment that brings opportunities and challenges.

This study examined the extent to which project managers’ personality determines project success through the mediating mechanism of transformational leadership. The context of the study was nongovernmental projects that focused on education and health. Data were collected from 170 project managers who were engaged in 10 different programs in various areas of Pakistan. Based on the post-positivism approach and a specific deductive design, the results of the study indicated that Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Openness to Experience were direct positive predictors of project success, whereas transformational leadership acted as a mediator of these relations. One of the personality dimensions (i.e., Conscientiousness) had only an indirect effect on project success through transformational leadership. No relation was found between Neuroticism and project success. The theoretical and practical implications for project management are also discussed.

Previous studies have shown that leader narcissism has a significant impact on the effectiveness of a leader and employee behaviors; however, research on career outcomes of employees is still inadequate. This study explores the effects of leader narcissism on the career success of employees from an interpersonal relationship perspective and examines the mediating role of supervisor-subordinate conflict and the moderating role of dominant personality traits of employees. Data from 291 employees in Chinese companies have revealed that leader narcissism, directly and indirectly, affects the career success of employees through supervisor-subordinate relationship conflict. However, dominant personality traits of employees strengthen the impact of leader narcissism on supervisor-subordinate relationship conflict. The theoretical and practical implications of the findings of this study are further discussed.

This study examined the impact of environmental knowledge &amp; awareness of employees on sustainability performance of organization among 173 commercial bank employees in Batticaloa Region of Sri Lanka. It explored environmental knowledge &amp; awareness of employees associated with employee green behaviour and the possible mediating role of employee green behaviour between environmental knowledge &amp; awareness and sustainability performance of organization. Multiple regression analysis demonstrated that the environmental knowledge &amp; awareness of employees were significantly associated with green behaviour among the employees of surveyed banks. It was also established that the association of environmental knowledge &amp; awareness of employees and sustainability performance of the bank is partially mediated by employee green behaviour. This study contributes to fill out the research gaps exist in the area of study to some extent and offers practical implications for the managers of banks to establish efficient and constructive mechanisms and encourage the bank&rsquo;s staff to implement environmental policies into actions.
