The tools of running a business are big business themselves. Finding a way to efficiently streamline processes could save time, effort, and money, but getting to that point often requires retraining and fitting the process to the software rather than the software to the process. Having an all-in-one platform that adapts to business needs is the novel way some companies have begun to approach productivity tools, with Monday.com being a prime example of where the technology is leading. An easy-to-use interface depends on the user’s ability to grasp its setup, and by making an app-based platform, the founders are capitalizing on the iPhone generation. Monday.com is a prime example of a business offering a product for other businesses, and studying how they developed their software not only allows students to understand how such a tool can be useful in running a business, but also the innovative process behind creating a whole new way to do business.

This paper will discuss about how an E-business model is made and designed. While designing a business model seems like an easy job, designing a proper business model for E-business requires an understanding of the workings and difference of E-business and traditional business. While the goals of both businesses are similar, there are some distinct characteristics from E-business model which are studied on this journal. In defining the business model characteristics, we must first define what the business model is, and how it impacts the E-business and the realities in E-business. While E-business implementation is different between one another, depends on the business needs and situation, the characteristics of an E-business model have similarities with each other. On discussing the characteristics of the said E-business model, the characteristics itself will show the distinct advantage of E-business model if compared to the traditional business model. These advantages are also the characteristics of the E-business model, which must be used to the fullest extent to get the total benefits of the business model. Apart from advantages, E-business model will also face challenges and barriers, which can hamper development of a good business model, but by proper identification of the problem a solution can be synthesized.

PurposeThis article is based on a systematic and comprehensive review of the literature on two-sided platforms, the business structure based on the concept of matchmaking groups of customers (e.g. Uber or Airbnb). The research aims to identify gaps in the existing literature while providing a structured summary of the existing knowledge in the field. Finally, we propose a conceptual framework enabling platform thinking, the ability to see hybrid multi-sided platforms as a useful resource-orchestration structure to unveil innovation opportunities.Design/methodology/approachThis study adopts a bibliometric approach, combing co-citation and text mining analyses of 196 papers, also implementing a longitudinal analysis that highlights the evolution of the field since its inception till today.FindingsThe novel aspect of the paper consists in taking a purely managerial stance of a very peculiar kind of platform, merging existing knowledge in comprehensive frameworks while providing potential avenues for research.Research limitations/implicationsFrom an academic perspective, this research highlights the double nature of two-sided platforms: as an operational choice or as a way to exploit (digital) assets and reach the economic sustainability. A research agenda is proposed, based on three pillars: a side-based standpoint, a business model perspective and an evolutionary stance to see how these businesses may evolve.Practical implicationsThe research identifies different literature streams that may help practitioners in identifying how two-sided platforms may help them in fostering innovation.Originality/valueThe identification of two-sided platforms as a different way to create value (transaction platforms) or to capture value (non-transaction platform), enhancing the debate on this innovative business model. A research agenda to bring the field forward is proposed.

Since 2008, a research team of Management Department (Ca’ Foscari University of Venice) has been conducting various action-research projects to support the strategy reconsideration of many businesses, with the supervision of the author of the present paper. These experiences lead to the Significant Business Manifesto, which aspires to imagine a new entrepreneurial model for all the Italian businesses, but inspiring even for the single one. The proposed model is structured on gradually more actionable levels: vision, mission, strategy, and business model. Such levels should characterize the ideal type of Italian business and should guide the related questions which every actual business needs to answer.

Modernization is an effective approach to making existing mainframe and distributed systems more responsive to business needs. SOA is an adequate paradigm that allows companies to tap into the business value in their current systems for rapid future changes to the business model. In their research works, the authors focus on the use of SOA to implement Inter-Organizational WorkFlows (IOWF). The goal is to take benefits from SOA advantages like interoperability, reusability, and flexibility to deal with process models flexibly enough. This chapter focuses on specific IOWF architectures: the “chained execution” and the “subcontracting.” First, the authors define Service-Based Cooperation Patterns (SBCP) suitable to these IOWF architectures; a SBCP is defined through three main dimensions: the distribution of services, the control of execution, and the structure of interaction. The second issue of the chapter consists of adaptation and evolution of IOWF process models obeying to the defined SBCP. Conformably to the three dimensions of SBCP, the authors define three classes of adaptation patterns: “service,” “control flow,” and “interaction.” Also, the authors particularly distinguish operations of evolution of process models based on two perspectives: the expansion of the global functionality of the process and the expansion of the cooperation. For implementation, the authors consider BPEL processes.

Study level/applicability This case was successfully taught in a second-year MBA marketing course on the science of behavior change. It would be suitable for first-year MBA and executive education programs. The material would work well on courses on women in business, women as leaders and women in data science. The female protagonist creates a tech platform and uses a data-driven model. Subject area Marketing – it was used in a module around leveraging existing insights and creating new ones in marketing strategies. The course is structured around a “pathway to behavior change” framework. This case focuses on the analysis segment of the model, introduces targeted behavioral challenge(s) and lends itself to identifying consumer insights, biases and behaviors. It uses that analysis to learn about the market, competition and gaps to fill. Case overview This case uses a startup in the retail industry to explore the leverage of behavioral science to enrich a business model and structure a marketing campaign. The material unfolds the testing of an innovative process and use of persuasion to align business practices with human behavior and scale. In addition, it gives the opportunity to discuss how a minimal tech solution could bring in market data and provide a test platform to larger clients. The founder of Rohvi, Sara Whiffen, created a platform that allowed shoppers to buy clothing items from local retail stores, use them and after a few wears, return the items for partial store credit. The business model was based on Whiffen’s experience in the automobile industry with used cars. Following her first few years in the business, Whiffen had to make some decisions around engaging clients on two sides – retailers and consumers. How can an innovative startup leverage behavioral science to persuade multiple stakeholders? Expected learning outcomes • Learn marketing concepts in material and a tech platform featuring a female protagonist and team; • practice evaluating a product and capturing value using behavioral science; • understand consumer/business biases and practice forming and delivering a persuasive message; • learn to leverage and create new insights to aid behavior change in business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) contexts; • analyze behavioral insights to identify new opportunities in a competitive marketplace; • unfold a framework to explore consumer motivation in recommerce; and • explore the use of experimentation in changing consumer behavior and improving decision-making. Supplementary materials Teaching notes are available for educators only. Please contact your library to gain login details or email [email protected] to request teaching notes. Social implications Females need to be represented in core business education curriculum such as data analysis in addition to classes focused on social equity and business. This all female executive team pursued an innovative process built on a technology platform using a data-driven model to gain enterprise clients. The material offers an opportunity to explore sustainability. Subject code CSS 8: Marketing

Although it is recognized that the business model contains relevant information for obtaining system requirements, we still lack a systematic approach for discovering requirements from an existing organization’s business model. This paper proposes a method which starts from a business model, guides the software development team toward understanding business needs and identifying system requirements addressing those needs. Three case studies were conducted where the method applicability could be verified

The Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor (TFTR), at the Plasma Physics Laboratory of Princeton University (PPPL) was the first fusion reactor fueled by a mixture of deuterium and tritium (D-T) to be decommissioned in the world. The decommissioning was performed over a period of three years and was completed safely, on schedule and under budget [1]. Provided is an overview of the project and detail of various factors which led to the success of the project. Discussion will cover management of the project, engineering planning before the project started and during the field work was being performed, training of workers in the field, the novel adaptation of tools from other industry, and the development of an innovative process for the use of diamond wire to segment the activated / contaminated vacuum vessel. The success of the TFTR decommissioning provides a viable model for the decommissioning of D-T burning fusion devices in the future.

This paper deals with quantification of the noise located in the digital signal by an innovative process. This process is associated with the filter that represents the novel information conveyed by the desired signal, residual interference and residual noise which are used to reduce the noise. A typical uniform quantization operation of a sampled signal is identified and interpreted with the framework of stochastic difference equation. A new theorem is proposed with all possible assumptions to support our result to signal noise ratio. AMS [200] Subject Classification: 39A10, 39A30, 39A60, 39B82, 39B99.
