Being able to understand how double entry works is a critically important skill of an accountant but, few accounting graduates either understand or perform double entry at the level desired. It has always been taught using rules, never by principles. This paper responds to and rejects criticisms published in this journal by Richard Macve. They concern a paper I published in 2018 presenting Luca Pacioli’s approach to teaching double entry using a principles-based approach. My response also uses grounded theory to reject Professor Macve’s theory concerning the development of double entry by generating an opposing new theory to explain what motivated its emergence. Furthermore, it highlights problems in the use of literature in accounting history; and uses theories of pedagogy and studies on teaching DEB to reject his insistence that it should be taught using a balance sheet equation approach. Several other comments/suggestions in his wide-ranging article are addressed.

The development of information technology should be able to be utilized by all parties, including SMEs in Indonesia. Especially during the current COVID-19 pandemic, where there are restrictions on community activities outside the home so that conventional buying and selling activities do not occur anymore. The government encourages community activities to be carried out entirely online. Problems arise because the community is not ready to face this change, including MSME actors who can no longer run their business as usual. However, limited information and lack of infrastructure cause less optimal use of information technology in meeting their business needs. The use of information technology should be an opportunity in order to encourage business growth. Therefore, the PKM FTI Untar team decided to help spread knowledge on the use of information technology to MSME actors in the Jambi City environment. This activity has been carried out for 2 days through the Zoom application. Activities are carried out in the form of webinars. A total of 21 MSME actors in Jambi City became participants in this service activity. The activity was carried out well and received a warm welcome from the participants. The participants also feel more confident to use the available applications in running their business. They also suggested that activities like this be added with direct counseling on the use of e-commerce applications.

The goal of the article is to show the possibilities of development (improvements) of the business-university cooperation on from the point of view of enterprises. Authors are looking for a balance enabling agile cooperation between the entities (business needs vs university capabilities). In this article the conditions of the cooperation from the point of view of an enterprise were analyzed. Entrepreneurs point to the passive attitude of the universities regarding cooperation, the lack of openness to the business needs or inquiries and low communication. On the other hand, scientists point out the problem of not getting any offers from entrepreneurs [Trzmielak, Grzegorczyk 2014]. The pandemic caused by the virus SARS-CoV2 has shown the weaknesses of enterprises in many sectors. The most common difficulties are communication problems with stakeholders. Businesses are working very quickly on finding new solutions which will facilitate communication and improve the flow of documentation3 . Works using new technologies have significantly accelerated. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has definitely inspired the new generation of crisis communication [Sellnow, Seeger, 2021]. The crisis has forced the creation of new schemes which will be facilitate effective action. The chances of universities cooperating with businesses decreases with the available number of new solutions in the time of the communication crisis. Polish universities definitely miss the marketing orientation. According to businessmen the main barrier is the lack of offers and insufficient information flow. From the business point of view what is interesting is the experience of university employees in assessing the digitalisation of enterprises (Industry 4.0)4 . There is a chance for a development of such cooperation. Time and economic results become important business factors.

The tools of running a business are big business themselves. Finding a way to efficiently streamline processes could save time, effort, and money, but getting to that point often requires retraining and fitting the process to the software rather than the software to the process. Having an all-in-one platform that adapts to business needs is the novel way some companies have begun to approach productivity tools, with Monday.com being a prime example of where the technology is leading. An easy-to-use interface depends on the user’s ability to grasp its setup, and by making an app-based platform, the founders are capitalizing on the iPhone generation. Monday.com is a prime example of a business offering a product for other businesses, and studying how they developed their software not only allows students to understand how such a tool can be useful in running a business, but also the innovative process behind creating a whole new way to do business.
