This study examined inequalities in college knowledge across the high school years. Twelfth graders had significantly more college knowledge than ninth and 10th graders. Although college knowledge increased during high school among both first- and continuing-generation college-going students, we found significant between-group differences. Continuing-generation students had significantly more college knowledge than first-generation students, and the gap between groups widened across the high school years. School counselors are uniquely positioned within the K–12 education system to address inequalities such as the college knowledge gap through their roles as educators and leaders.

Minority students are less likely to seek help to deal with bullying at school than their majority counterparts. Nonetheless, very little is known about the factors that influence their willingness to seek help, or the role of school counselors as potential help providers. Thus, in the present study we examined Israeli Arab minority high school students’ help seeking from school counselors for coping with verbal, physical, and social bullying. A national representative sample of 730 high school students participated in the study. Our findings revealed that the vast majority of students did not seek help at all. Students who sought help, in comparison with those who did not, reported more positive relationships with their school counselors, and noted that their counselors were more available for them. Students who experienced higher levels of victimization were more willing to seek help than those who experienced lower levels. Implications for help seeking and the role of counselors in schools are discussed.

The Impact

The education system acknowledges the relevance and impact of arts in exploring students' different skills and competencies.  However, most of the learners remain bias on the purpose and essence of art-based activities since most of the strands offered in senior high school are academically designed through the K-12 program, which guides and prepares incoming college students in choosing their career path.  Hence, this study attempted to determine the vital role of arts-based instructional approaches to enrich students' learning in one selected catholic Senior High school in Manila, Philippines.  Applying a qualitative approach through intensive interviews, 15 Health Allied students participated in this study.  Results revealed that arts are highly integrated with the delivery of the different lessons of the involved strand.  Moreover, arts proved that they have solid and influential roles in improving students' quality of learning.  Furthermore, the impact and relevance of arts as an instructional approach supports the learning process of health allied students. Thus, this research informs and guides the teachers and students on the importance and impact of art as an overlooked field in education that maximizes one's potentials.

Abstract: The process of preparing to take the test SNMPTN is something that often makes prospective students experiencing various problems. I prepare for the selection of the necessary physical, material, and also psychological. This research was initiated from the problems that occurred in the preparation of the admission public universities by students coming from private schools . These problems such as high school rules violations / lack of discipline, learn less motivated to learn. This condition greatly affects the readiness of students to achieve success SNMPTN pass. This study aimed to describe the readiness of high school students college entrance exams and the role of BK teacher / school counselor. The study population is students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Metro are 212 students. This type of research is quantitative descriptive, and the questionnaire used as an instrument of collecting data. The results showed that the average score of 80.53 with an average percentage of 26.84%, are in the category is not ready. BK teacher's role in preparing students in private schools that help students related to school by making a counseling program, either individually or in the classical style. Increase cooperation with fellow teachers and parents and guardians to fostering the development of children's potential.Keywords: Readiness, Students, Counselor role

This qualitative study focused on examining the roles and experiences of high school counselors supporting students experiencing homelessness in their college preparation. To be included in the study, participants needed to have experience working with high school students experiencing homelessness. Findings indicated that the participants supported students experiencing homelessness by (a) enhancing access and exposure to college, (b) providing hands-on and individualized college-going support, and (c) building partnerships with universities to support college going.

Adolescents are currently in the midst of technological sophistication, which is very helpful for its development. On the other hand, many adolescents are trapped in the problem of technology addiction. Adolescents are the most age group who experience problems with the use of technology, including online games. Online game addiction is the loss of control over the use of online games, which makes other daily activities are disrupted. Online game addiction in adolescents have an impact on several aspects of life, such as health aspects, psychological aspects, academic aspects, social aspects, and financial aspects. Lack of understanding about the risks of online game addiction can get adolescent stuck in online game addiction. This research aims to describe high school students understanding about the risks of online game addiction. The sample consisted of 255 high school students selected by proportional random sampling technique. Data was collected using a scale measuring understanding of the risks of online game addiction. Data analysis used a quantitative approach with descriptive methods. The results showed that high school students understanding about the risks of online game addiction was included in the moderate category with an average score of 198,48 and an achievement score level of 55,14%. Therefore, school counselors must to improve high school students understanding of the risks of online game addiction.

In the world of K–12 education, the growing numbers of dropouts are a major concern. This article examines the dropout rates of Chinese and Vietnamese high school students. Using logistic regression analysis, this article examines the influence of ethnicity, gender, and socioeconomic status (SES) on dropout rates. The distinct contribution of this analysis lies within the intraethnic comparisons within the Asian American student population and its use of longitudinal data. The results of the study support existing research that gender and SES are related to dropout rates. Moreover, an interesting interaction between ethnicity and SES exists.

It is estimated that 15-22% of students have high levels of test anxiety (von der Embse, Jester, Roy, & Post, 2018), which can be associated with greater academic stress and poorer educational performance (e.g., Steinmayr, Crede, McElvany, & Withwein, 2016). First-generation students (where neither parent has completed post-secondary education) are a critical group to study given that they are at higher risk for poorer educational attainment and being unsuccessful at the post-secondary level. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the link between basic psychological needs and test anxiety in a sample of first-generation Ontario high school students across two points in time (N = 147;  Mage = 14.82, SD = 1.28). Self-report data was collected as a part of an on-going longitudinal study focusing on students attending a high school with specialized programming to enhance the transition to post-secondary institutions. Results from cross-lagged path analyses indicated that being older, female, and having higher levels of needs frustration significantly predicted higher levels of test anxiety over time within this sample. Our results highlight important educational implications, emphasizing the importance of fostering classroom environments where students perceive their psychological needs to be met, particularly within this unique population of students.

Makerspaces have grown over the last two decades and provide a potentially important resource to entrepreneurs. One area where the expansion of makerspaces has been the largest is in educational settings, at both K-12 schools and colleges. However, scant research to date has analysed whether students visiting a makerspace have any relationship with their professional goals or intentions. This study uses a survey conducted in New Orleans to analyse the predictors of what students use a makerspace, and the potential relationship visiting may have with entrepreneurial intent. The analysis finds that students with a higher socio-economic status appear to use makerspaces more often, and that students who visited makerspaces are more likely to express interest in starting their own businesses.
