Abstract Background This study aimed to evaluate the compatibility of robotic single-site (RSS) myomectomy in comparison with the conventional robotic multi-port (RMP) myomectomy to achieve successful surgical outcomes with reliability and reproducibility. Methods This retrospective case–control study was performed on 236 robotic myomectomies at a university medical center. After 1:1 propensity score matching for the total myoma number, total myoma diameter, and patient age, 90 patients in each group (RSS: n = 90; RMP: n = 90) were evaluated. Patient demographics, preoperative parameters, intraoperative characteristics, and postoperative outcome measures were analyzed. Results The body mass index, parity, preoperative hemoglobin levels, mean maximal myoma diameter, and anatomical type of myoma showed no mean differences between RSS and RMP myomectomies. The RSS group was younger, had lesser number of myomas removed, and had a smaller sum of the maximal diameter of total myomas removed than the RMP group. After propensity score matching, the total operative time (RSS: 150.9 ± 57.1 min vs. RMP: 170 ± 74.5 min, p = 0.0296) was significantly shorter in the RSS group. The RSS group tended to have a longer docking time (RSS: 9.8 ± 6.5 min vs. RMP: 8 ± 6.2 min, p = 0.0527), shorter console time (RSS: 111.1 ± 52.3 min vs. RMP: 125.8 ± 65.1 min, p = 0.0665), and shorter time required for in-bag morcellation (RSS: 30.1 ± 17.2 min vs. RMP: 36.2 ± 25.7 min, p = 0.0684). The visual analog scale pain score 1 day postoperatively was significantly lower in the RSS group (RSS: 2.4 ± 0.8 days vs. RMP: 2.7 ± 0.8 days, p = 0.0149), with similar consumption of analgesic drugs. The rate of transfusion, estimated blood loss during the operation, and length of hospital stay were not different between the two modalities. No other noticeable complications were observed in either group. Conclusions Da Vinci RSS myomectomy is a compatible option with regard to reproducibility and safety, without significantly compromising the number and sum of the maximal diameter of myomas removed. The advantage of shorter total operative time and less pain with the same amount of analgesic drugs in RSS myomectomy will contribute to improving patient satisfaction.

Objective Metabolic syndrome (MetS) involves multiple metabolic disorders and seriously affects human health. Identification of key biological factors associated with MetS incidence is therefore important. We explored the association between MetS and the biochemical profiles of Chinese adults in Shenyang City in a nested case-control study. Methods We included adult participants who underwent physical examination at our hospital for 2 consecutive years. Participants’ biochemical profiles and other MetS components were tested and monitored continuously. Propensity score matching was used to adjust confounding factors between participants with and without MetS. We analyzed the association between incidence of MetS and the biochemical profiles of participants. Results Of 5702 participants who underwent physical examination between 1 January 2017 and 1 December 2018, 538 had confirmed newly developed MetS. After successfully matching 436 pairs of participants, mean cystatin C (Cys-C) level was significantly higher in the MetS group than in the non-MetS group. Logistic regression analysis indicated that age (years) and γ-glutamate transpeptidase, creatinine, uric acid, and Cys-C levels were significantly associated with MetS incidence; among these, the odds ratio of Cys-C was highest (3.03; 95% confidence interval, 1.02–9.00). Conclusions Cys-C levels were significantly associated with the incidence of MetS among Chinese adults.

Our study aims to confirm the association between circulatory coiled-coil domain-containing 80 (CCDC80) in pregnant women with GDM, to investigate the discriminatory power of CCDC80 on GDM, and to explore the relationships between this molecular level and clinical cardiometabolic parameters. Methods: A 1:2 matched case-control study with 61 GDM patients and 122 controls was conducted using a propensity score matching protocol. All participants were screened from a multicenter prospective pre-birth cohort: Born in Shenyang Cohort Study (BISCS). During 24 and 28 weeks of gestation, follow-up individuals underwent an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and blood sampling for cardiometabolic characterization. Results: Following propensity score matching adjustment for clinical variables, including maternal age, gestational age, body mass index, SBP and DBP, plasma CCDC80 levels were significantly decreased in patients with GDM when compared with controls (0.25±0.10 vs. 0.31±0.12 ng/ml, P =0.003). Conditional multi-logistic regression analyses after adjustments for potential confounding factors revealed that CCDC80 was a strong and independent protective factor for GDM (ORs <1). In addition, the results of the ROC analysis indicated the CCDC80 exhibited the capability to identify pregnant women with GDM (AUC=0.633). Finally, multivariate regression analyses showed that CCDC80 levels were positively associated with AST, monoamine oxidase, complement C1q, LDL-C, apolipoprotein A1and B, and negatively associated with blood glucose levels at 1 h post- OGTT. Conclusions: Biomarker CCDC80 could be of great value for the development of prediction, diagnosis and therapeutic strategies against GDM in pregnant women.

Background: The link between psoriasis and body fat (or obesity) has been well established. However, there are no reports detailing the possible relationship between psoriasis and fat infiltration in skeletal muscle, also known as myosteatosis. A recent study reported the possible association between psoriasis, arthritis, and sarcopenia (the loss of skeletal muscle mass or function). The present study aimed to explore the possible associations of chronic plaque psoriasis with myosteatosis and sarcopenia.Methods: We conducted a case-control study. In-patients with chronic plaque psoriasis were retrospectively recruited. Healthy controls were prospectively and continuously recruited. Unenhanced cross-sectional chest computed tomography images at the 12th thoracic vertebral level were analyzed using Mimics software. Skeletal muscle area (SMA), skeletal muscle radiodensity (SMD), and intermuscular adiposity tissue (IMAT) were measured. The skeletal muscle index (SMI) was calculated as SMA/height2. The percentage of IMAT (IMAT%) was calculated as IMAT/SMA × 100%. Myosteatosis was defined by SMD or IMAT%, whereas sarcopenia was defined by SMI. Propensity score matching was performed to adjust for the main confounders. Logistic regression models were used to evaluate the associations of psoriasis with myosteatosis and sarcopenia.Results: We included 155 psoriasis patients and 512 healthy controls. After propensity score matching, we retained 310 controls. The prevalence of sarcopenia was not significantly different between the psoriasis and control groups (men: 9.8% vs. 14.4%, p = 0.244; women: 7.0% vs. 11.7%, p = 0.548). Psoriasis patients were more prone to SMD-defined myosteatosis (men: 39.3% vs. 20.8%; women: 46.5% vs. 16.0%; both p &lt; 0.001) and IMAT%-defined myosteatosis (men: 21.4% vs. 12.5%, p = 0.034; women: 46.5 vs. 28.7%, p = 0.042) than the control group. After adjustment for potential confounders, psoriasis was not significantly associated with sarcopenia (odds ratio [OR] 0.51, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.25–1.19, p = 0.136). However, psoriasis was associated with SMD-defined myosteatosis (OR 3.16, 95% CI 1.86–5.37, p &lt; 0.001) and IMAT%-defined myosteatosis (OR 1.76, 95% CI 1.04–3.00; p = 0.037).Conclusions: Chronic plaque psoriasis is independently associated with myosteatosis but not sarcopenia. Since fat and muscle are considered endocrine organs and can drive the inflammatory process, further studies detailing the interaction between psoriasis, fat, and skeletal muscle are warranted.
