Abstract Background Nurses have a vital role in the healthcare system. One of the basic steps to increase their happiness is to recognize factors such as job satisfaction and quality of working life. Therefore, the goal of the present study was to examine the relationship between happiness and quality of working life and job satisfaction among nursing personnel. Methods This descriptive study was carried out on 270 hospital nurses who worked in emergency departments in Iran. Nurses were recruited through the census method. Data collection instruments included the Oxford Happiness Inventory (OHI), the Quality of Work Life Questionnaire (QWL), and the Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (JSQ). Data were explored using descriptive statistics, and stepwise multiple linear regression analysis. Results The mean age of participants was 30.1 ± 6.26 years. The mean happiness score was 38.5 ± 16.22, the mean Quality of Working Life (QWL) score was 84.3 ± 17.62, and the mean job satisfaction score was found to be 45.5 ± 13.57); corresponding to moderate levels of attributes. The results obtained from the ordinary least-square (OLS) regression indicated that happiness significantly was associated with economic status and satisfaction with closure (R2: 0.38). Conclusion Overall the current study found that nurses who work in emergency departments did not feel happy. Additionally, the findings suggest that their happiness were associated with their economic status, and closure over their duties.

Workplace stress affects employees’ mental health, causing severe damage to their job functions and safety. Moreover, the quality of working life is among factors that play prominent roles in the workplace. The present experimental study aimed to investigate the relationship between the quality of working life and mental health of the administrative staff of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, Kermanshah, Iran, in 2016. In this descriptive and correlational study conducted on the administrative staff of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences in 2016, the sample size was calculated through Kerjcie and Morgan sample size table (n=267), and the samples were selected by simple random sampling. For data collection, a demographic information questionnaire, the Walton’s quality of working life questionnaire and the Goldberg’s general health questionnaire (GHQ-28) were used. In addition, to analyze the collected data, the Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple stepwise regressions were utilized with the help of SPSS 23 software. The mean score of quality of working life was 3.40 out of 5.0, and that of mental health was 2.98 out of 4.0. There was a significant positive correlation between quality of work life and mental health (p<0.001, r=0.305). Of the dimensions of quality of working life, fair and adequate remunerations and safe and sanitary working environments had the most effects or could predict mental health to the greatest degrees, respectively. The results of the present demonstrated that fair remunerations, not necessarily financial pays, and safe and sanitary working environments influenced the employees’ mental health. So, it is recommended that managerial support, improved supervision, provision of training programs and improving the physical conditions of the workplace be placed top of the agenda towards this objective.

At present many companies around the world are struggling to meet the challenges presented by the organization’s global trends. The workforce has been continuously reminded of the competitiveness and increasing productivity in ensuring better working life. Not forgetting to balance the routines, job satisfaction needs also to be deliberated in any organization. In the current business scenario, the workforce in Malaysia has often been called to acquire core competencies and maintain their competitiveness in a liberalized and globalized market. Further, with the implementation of various policies pertinent to employment including the retirement age and minimum wages, the workplace is no more a pleasant place. Workers need to be more innovative, creative and talented to sustain employment. For such reasons, this paper attempts to examine the relationship between organizational support and job satisfaction in the insurance industry. The results showed that satisfaction with the job (M = 3.68); successful people, directed or influenced by its own commitment to achieve organizational goals (M = 3.55); know and understand the policies and processes to do their job better (M = 3.54). This result is important in that it clearly shows that the relationship between job satisfaction and organizational support are intertwined and closely related to organization performance. This paper proposed a practical model that helps management or decision-makers to highlight the most influential factors that influence the quality of employees’ working life in their organizations.   Keywords: Job satisfaction, quality of working life, insurance industry.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan alat ukur psikologi yang mengukur quality of working life karyawan, dengan menggunakan lima dimensi quality of working life yaitu health & well being, job security, job satisfaction, competency development, dan work & non-work life balance.

Quality of working life has been differentiated from the broader concept of quality of life. To some degree, this may be overly simplistic, as Elizur and Shye,(1990) concluded that quality of work performance is affected by quality of life as well as quality of working life. However, the specific attention to work-related aspects of quality of life is valid. Whilst quality of life has been more widely studied, quality of working life remains relatively unexplored and unexplained. A review of the literature reveals relatively little on quality of working life. Where quality of working life has been explored, writers differ in their views on its core constituents. Various authors and researchers have proposed models of quality of working life which include a wide range of factors. This paper concentrates on the role of job satisfaction in quality of work life.

This study investigated quality of working life differences between self-employed and salaried managers. Based on data collected in a national survey of employees from various demographic and industry groupings, the results indicate that self-employed managers tended to report higher levels of job satisfaction and job autonomy than the salaried managers despite spending significantly more hours in their jobs. The results are interpreted as supporting, in part, a “role accumulation” theory of work behavior in that the gains from the small business manager's job outweigh its costs. Further, no differences in psychosomatic illnesses, life and free time satisfaction were found for the two groups of managers. These results suggest that life-style problems often associated with small business managers may be overstated to some degree.
