Abstract Background Three stages of basalt weathering are known: early or incipient weathering, intermediate weathering and advanced weathering. The Late Oligocene basalt of Gebel Qatrani in Fayum Depression, Egypt, shows signs of early weathering, particularly exhibited in basalt spheroids found at the top of the basalt flow. The present paper gives the results of detailed petrographical, mineralogical and geochemical study of the weathering of these basalt spheroids. Results The core-stones of the basalt spheroids are composed of phenocrystals of plagioclase feldspars and clinopyroxenes set in a groundmass of tiny feldspars and pyroxenes, relatively altered olivine and opaque minerals. The basalt is subalkali (tholeiitic). The outer weathered shells surrounding the core-stones are composed of partly altered feldspars and pyroxenes. The calculated weathering indices show that there is marked weathering trend from the core-stones of the spheroids to the outer shells. The chemical mobility of the elements shows marked depletion of Mg, Ca, Na and K from the core-stones to the outer shells due to the weathering of olivine, pyroxene and feldspars. The trace elements Rb, Sr, Ni, V, Cr and Zn are also depleted. Conclusions The weathering of basalt spheroids from Gebel Qatrani, Fayum Depression, Egypt, is of the incipient type. The degree of weathering from the core-stones of the basalt spheroids to the corresponding weathered shells indicates that the weathering occurred under predominantly semiarid to arid conditions.

This paper aims to take the longitudinal development history of the Lenovo Cross-border complex nested R&D organization as the research object, to explore the development rules of enterprise niche. Strategic positioning is the core issue of enterprise management, and enterprise niche is the core issue of strategic positioning. This study elaborates on the three stages of enterprise R&D organizational ambidexterity promoting enterprise niche evolution, discusses the process model of space development, and reveals the life cycle of enterprise niche. It reveals the deep reason for promoting enterprise niche to develop—the ambidexterity of complex nested organization. The conclusion helps to promote the successful space development of enterprise niches through Cross-border merger and acquisition, and to enhance global sustainable development for the companies from emerging markets such as China.

Carbon nanodots (Cdots) have many unique properties such as luminescence that can be utilized in various fields. The purposes of this study are to synthesize Cdots from kangkung (Ipomoea aquatica) through frying and roasting techniques and compare the optical properties of the Cdots using UV-Vis, PL, and FTIR. Three stages of synthesizing process of Cdots, i.e.: preparing the kangkung powder (root, stem, leaf) and synthesizing the Cdots through frying and roasting techniques. Each part (root, stem, and leaf) was heated in an oven at 250 oC for 2 hours and mashed into powder. The frying method was done by frying 15 g of the powder in 120 ml oil for 5 minutes at 88 oC, filtered, and dissolved in n-hexane. In addition, the roasting method was done by frying the powder without oil as much as 15 g for 5 minutes, dissolved in 120 ml of distilled water, and then filtered. The UV-Vis characterization showed one absorbance peak for Cdots via frying and roasting techniques at 293 nm to 296 nm and 262 nm to 282 nm, respectively. The Cdots through frying and roasting techniques produce red and green luminescence, respectively. The FTIR characterization showed the presence of C=C and C=O functional groups, which are the core and surface state of the Cdots by frying technique, while the samples via roasting technique showed only the core. It can be concluded that the Cdots samples obtained from frying and roasting methods have different optical properties. The frying method produces Cdots with longer wavelength at the absorbance peak in the UV-Vis test compared to the roasting method. Moreover, the frying and roasting methods produce different color luminescence.

To get more data on the geochemistry of Black Sea euxinic sediments, a 50-cm core was collected at a depth of 600 m on a Western Black Sea Continental Platform slope. The core contained unconsolidated sediments rich in cocoolithic ooze and mud. Epithermal Neutron and Prompt Gamma Activation Analysis were used to determine the content of nine major (Na, Mg, Al, Si, K, Ca, Ti, Mn, and Fe as oxides) and 32 trace elements (Cl, Sc, V, Cr, Co, Ni, Zn, As, Se, Br, Rb, Sr, Zr, Mo, Sn, Sb, Cs, Ba, La, Ce, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Yb, Hf, Ta, W, Th, and U) with a precision varying between 3 and 9%. The core contained unconsolidated sediment rich in coccolithic ooze and mud. Previous 210 Pb geochronology suggests an age of ∼1 ky of considered sediments. Major components distribution showed that, except for Cl and Ca, the contents of all other elements are similar to Upper Continental Crust (UCC) and North American Shale Composite (NASC). The distribution of the 32 trace elements showed similarities to the UCC, except for redox-sensitive metals Fe, Se, Mo, and U, of which the significantly higher content reflects the presence of euxinic conditions during deposition. A chondrite normalized plot of nine rare earth elements indicated a similarity to UCC and NASC, suggesting a continental origin of sedimentary material.

A geochemical study of Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) sediments was carried out to analyze the concentrations, distribution, accumulation, and potential sources of the seldom monitored trace elements (SMTEs). The mean concentrations of Li, B, Be, Bi, V, Co, Ga, Sn, Sb, and Tl were 47.08, 2.47, 59.15, 0.50, 119.20, 17.83, 30.31, 3.25, 4.14, and 0.58 mg/kg, respectively. The concentrations of total SMTEs, together with their spatial distribution, showed that the SMTEs were mainly due to anthropogenic inputs in the region of TGR. The assessment by Geoaccumulation Index indicates that Tl, Be, V, Co, and Fe are at the unpolluted level; Bi, Li, Ga, and Sn were at the “uncontaminated to moderately contaminated” level. However, B was classified as “moderately contaminated” level and Sb was ranked as “strongly contaminated” level. The pollution level of the SMTEs is Sb>B>Bi>Li>Ga>Sn>Tl>Be>V>Co>Fe. The results of Correlation Analysis and Principal Component Analysis indicated Be, V, Co, Ga, Sn, Tl, Bi, and Fe in sediments have a natural source. B and Li were positively correlated with each other and mainly attributed into similar anthropogenic input. In addition, Sb has less relationship with other SMTEs, indicating that Sb has another kind of anthropogenic source.

We present mineralogical and geochemical compositions of mantle xenoliths from two Cenozoic basalt localities of the northeastern North China Craton. These xenoliths include lherzolite, harzburgite, and websterite. They are generally fertile in major elements and different from the typical cratonic lithosphere, which is consistent with previous hypotheses regarding craton destruction. The ratios of 87Sr/86Sr and (La/Yb)N of clinopyroxenes (Cpx) in one lherzolite are relatively low in the core but high in the rim. The center of the Cpx grain has a high U concentration. Changes in trace elements and Sr isotopes indicate that later stage high 87Sr/86Sr melt metasomatism superimposed on the early hydrous melt/fluid. The Cpxs in some xenoliths are low in Ti/Eu but high in Ca/Al and light rare earth elements, which indicates carbonate melt metasomatism. 87Sr/86Sr is increased in the core and decreased in the rim of most Cpx grains, which reflects the superposition of two-stage metasomatism. The early agent should be high in 87Sr/86Sr, and the recent agent should be low in 87Sr/86Sr. The Cpxs in olivine websterite are low in 87Sr/86Sr (0.70220−0.70320), which reflects the recent metasomatism of asthenosphere-derived melt. Collectively, these observations reflect a three-stage modification of the lithospheric mantle. First-stage hydrous melt/fluid could come from the dehydration of young subducted plates. Second-stage melt/fluid of high 87Sr/86Sr could derive from the partial melting of the subducted altered oceanic crust, and the recent melt/fluid of low 87Sr/86Sr should be from the asthenosphere.

The study aims to elucidate plosiveness and friction in the “Raa”, (the tenth alphabet in Arabic) benefiting from what the ancient and modern scholars said on the issue. The core issue of the study is Sibawey’s classification of the “Raa” a tense phoneme in whose articulation the sound repeatedly flows leaning toward the articulation of “Lam” (23 Arabic alphabet) avoiding laxity. Had not the sound repeated, we wouldn’t have had the “Raa”. Tensity (plosiveness) and frication are two contradictory features which can never have the same place of articulation. The sound is articulated at stages, each of which has its own features. After analysis, it was found that the articulation of “Raa” passes through three stages. In the second, in the space between vocal cords and top of the tongue the “Raa” is fricative, while in the third, the closure stage between top of the tongue and hard palate, the “Raa” is plosive but this plosiveness is less in intensity than that of plosive phonemes. Therefore the “Raa” can be neither plosive, nor fricative, but in between “medial”.

Watupatok Formation in Pacitan area consists of lava with basaltic composition and pillow structure. Kenanga river is only 5 km to southeast Watupatok village as type locality of this formation. Kenanga river’s lava were varying from diabasic with paving surface and columnar joint structure to basaltic composition with pillow structure. Lava were found as effusive flow and dike with sandstone inclusion. In field observation, lava exhibits strong porphiritic to aphyric texture, with vesicular to amygdaloidal structure. Plagioclase as phenocryst has mediumsized (2-4 mm) surrounded by volcanic glass as groundmass. Petrographic analysis shows intersertal to hyalophilitic texture, consist of plagioclase, pyroxene and opaque minerals as phenocryst and also groundmass together with volcanic glass. Seconday minerals are quartz, zeolite and calcite. Geochemichal analysis results indicate a low TiO2 (0.8– 0.9 wt.%), medium to high Al2O3 (14–17 wt.%), high Fe2O3 (10–12 wt.%) and low Mg value (Mg#) (39–42). According to TAS and AFM diagram, the rocks is apparently to be basalt and tholeiitic island arc magma. While spidergram pattern of the trace elements shows relatively flat fo HREE and enriched pattern on LREE. Niobium element displays a depleted anomaly, indicated that the crust influences in parental magma, which is another characteristic of magmatic island arc. Based on regional tectonic, the volcanic rocks from Late Oligocene in the area has relationship with subduction processes between Indo-Australia plate and Eurasian plate.Keywords: Pillow structure, tholeiitic, lava, subduction
