Abstract Introduction Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a multifaceted inflammatory disease that can cause joint destruction and impair quality of life. The Psoriatic Arthritis Quality of Life Questionnaire (PsAQoL) was the first disease-specific tool for determining the impact of the disease on the quality of life of people with PsA. Objectives The primary objective was to develop and validate a Brazilian Portuguese version of the PsAQoL. Methods The UK PsAQoL was translated into Brazilian Portuguese using two translation panels. This translation then checked for face validity and construct validity with new samples of patients. Finally, a test-retest validation study was conducted with 52 patients with PsA. The survey included the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) as a comparator instrument. Results Internal consistency and reproducibility were both excellent for the new adaptation (0.91 and 0.90 respectively Scores on the PsAQoL were found to correlate as expected with the comparator measure and the instrument was able to detect differences in score related to perceived severity of PsA, general health status and presence of a flare. Conclusion The Brazilian PsAQoL was found easy to understand and complete and has excellent reliability and construct validity. The new measure will be a valuable new tool for use in routine PsA practice and clinical trials.

Background: Different questionnaires have been developed to measure quality of life (QoL) in patients with food allergy. Our aim was to validate a Spanish translation of the Food Allergy Independent Measure (FAIM) and the EuroPrevall Food Allergy Quality of Life Questionnaire—Child Form (FAQLQ-CF) for children aged 8–12 years. Methods: Sixty children with a diagnosis of IgE-mediated allergy to food completed the questionnaires. The internal consistency was evaluated with Cronbach’s alpha. The correlation of FAQLQ-CF with FAIM was assessed to test construct validity. We compared both values with the diagnosis of anaphylaxis to evaluate discriminant validity. Results: Cronbach’s alpha was in the range of 0.654–0.863 for the four domains of FAQLQ-CF and 0.779 for FAIM. There were no criteria to remove questions from the questionnaires. Significant correlations could be found between FAQLQ-CF and the number of offending foods and the impact on social life (all r > 0.33, P < 0.01), and between FAIM and anaphylaxis. Conclusions: The Spanish translation of FAQLQ-CF showed acceptable internal consistency, good construct validity, and capacity to discriminate patients depending on the number of foods to avoid and the impact on social life. FAIM showed good discriminant capacity for anaphylaxis.

Attempted to evaluate and compare the impact on quality of life of occupational and non-occupational ACD and to identify the most frequently involved allergens. A quality of life questionnaire was applied. We noted moderate impact on the quality of life of both groups, without a statistical difference. Our study corroborates previous general data on the prevalence of nickel sulphate and paraphenylenediamine as the most common allergens. Potassium bichromate was shown to be one of the main occupational allergens and thimerosal as the main non-occupational allergen in our sample.

Backround/Aim. Considering the distinct increase in the incidence of oropharyngeal cancer over oral cavity cancers and changing epidemiology with human papilloma virus (HPV) infection emerging as an important risk factor, there is a need to establish better treatment choices in specific groups of patients with oropharyngeal cancer. The aim of this study was to assess the quality of life (QOL) and functional performance and the impact of different demographical data, stage of disease, and treatment type on these parameters in patients with oropharyngeal cancer with successfully achieved locoregional control a year after the treatment. Methods. Study included 87 patients who underwent QOL and functional impairment assessment 12 to 14 months after finished oncological treatment with the following questionnaires: the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality-of Life-Questionnaire-C30 (EORTC QLQ-C30), European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of- Life Questionnaire-Head and Neck 35 (EORTC QLQ-H&N35) and The Karnofsky Performance Scale (KPS). Results. Specific groups of patients had significantly different post-treatment QOL scores. The factors associated with the worse QOL scores were female gender, not being in a partnership, level of education and HPV status. Conclusion. Clinicians should consider socioeconomic factors and HPV status in planning the recovery after treatment of patients with oropharyngeal carcinoma. Gender, education level and employment are the variables that form a certain risk profiles associated with the lower QOL.

Background: Frailty is a biological syndrome that causes adverse events in the health of older adults. However, the Clinical Frailty Scale has not yet been culturally adapted and validated into Brazilian Portuguese language. Objectives: Our aim was to translate, reproduce and validate the Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) for the Brazilian Portuguese language. Design: An observational cross-sectional study with senior patients was conducted between Jan 2018 and Nov 2018. Setting and Participants: Volunteers aged >60 and living in Brazil. The translation and cultural adaptation of the CFS into the Portuguese language, the principles and good practices were followed. Measurements: To conduct the validation and determine the reproducibility of an inter-observer evaluation, the patients answered the scale questions in Portuguese on two occasions, delivered by two separate examiners and separated by a 10-minute interval, on their first visit; the 36-item Short Form Survey quality-of-life questionnaire (SF-36) was also applied. Seven days later, a second visit was undertaken to perform an intra-observer reproducibility assessment. Results: A total of 66 older individuals were enrolled (72 ± 8 years), the majority of which did not present frailty (63.6%) and reported a low physical limitation level in the SF-36. The CFS showed a significant correlation with the SF-36 quality-of-life questionnaire (r= −0.663; p<0.0001) and no statistical difference was observed between intra-rater (p=0.641) and inter-rater (p=0.350) applications, demonstrating the reproducibility and applicability of the instrument. The standard error estimate (SEE) was evaluated and there were no differences between the CFS and the SF-36 (SEE= 1.13 points). Conclusion: The Brazilian Portuguese language version of the CFS is a valid, reproducible and reliable instrument for evaluating the impact of frailty on the lives of senior patients.
