In some industrial processes, and especially in agrofood industries, the cleaning in place mechanism used for hydraulic circuits plays an important role. This process needs a good knowledge of the hydrodynamic flows to determinate the appropriate parameters that assure a good cleaning of these circuits without disassembling them. Generally, different arrangements are present in these hydraulic circuits, such as expansions, diffusers, and elbows. The flow crossing these singularities strongly affects the process of cleaning in place. This work is then a contribution to complete recent studies of “aliments quality security” project to ameliorate the quality of the cleaning in place. It presents experimental and numerical investigations of a confined turbulent flow behavior across a conical diffuser (2α=16 deg). The role of a perturbation caused by the presence of an elbow in the test section, upstream of the progressive enlargement, was studied. The main measurements were the static pressure and the instantaneous velocity fields using the particle image velocimetry (PIV). Post-processing of these PIV measurements were adopted using the Γ2 criterion for the vortices detection and the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) technique to extract the most energetic modes contained in the turbulent flow and to the turbulent flow filtering. A database has been also constituted and was used to test the validity of the most models of turbulence, and in particular, a variant of the shear stress transport (SST) model.

The aforementioned proves that the grease flow in mould treatment equipment can be regarded as a regulation system with the input quantity by medium pressure p1 above the grease level and with the output quantity by the grease flow speed. The utilization of treatment equipment for die casting of metal enhances both the working environment and work culture during die casting of metals. Application of grease flow regulation results in better repeatability of die casting cycle which positively influences the quality of castings.

The paper deals with analysis of influence of pressing speed, of melt temperature and of casting position in a mold upon ultimate tensile strength Rm of die casting from aluminium. The monitored parameters of die casting are very important in terms of production efficiency and quality of casting, which is positively reflected in economic indicators of the production.

Die casting technology is applied widely for mass production of non-ferrous metal parts. How to guarantee the quality of die castings is always a concerned topic. A quality control system for die casting machine was developed based on statistical analysis of technology parameters. Firstly the original data is acquired from die casting machine and the technology curves are displayed. Secondly, the technology parameters are identified automatically and a database of technology parameters is established. Thirdly, a statistical analysis based on the database is performed. The statistics parameters of expecta -tion and deviation are figured out and the probability distribution diagrams for technology parameters are displayed. Finally, Tolerances for technology parameters are figured out and then the system will monitor the die casting process according to the tolerances. A practical system realization in a die casting machine is demonstrated by its monitoring interfaces. Statistical information and on-line monitoring provided by this system are helpful to guarantee the quality of die castings.

The technology of computer numerical simulation on casting process is an important frontal field of material science and technology. The numerical simulations of camera shell in the pressure die casting process were carried out. The distributions of temperature and solidification time in the filling process were obtained. Based on the simulated results and the Niyama criterion G/ R , the positions of slack were predicted, which were agreement with the practical result. Consequently, an improved scheme was presented, in which the workpiece defects were obviously reduced. So it’s significant for the application of numerical simulation on improving the quality of the casting, shortening the period of producing, reducing the cost and guiding the engineer for taking reasonable method to optimize the technological design.

Recent research in the process of die casting production of aluminium alloys which are nowadays deeply implemented in the rapidly developing automobile, shipping and airline industry aims to increase the manufacture and quality properties of the casting in order to obtain its high mechanical properties at acceptable economic costs. In terms of ensuring the quality indicators in the production of aluminium castings it is necessary to pay close attention to internal structural quality of the castings characterized by type and extent of foundry defects (cavities, Al2O3 particles, internal cold laps). The presenting contribution deals with the analysis of the fracture process, the microorganism disturbance of test samples, the impact of casting speed on the occurrence and extent of the castings porosity and reasons for the internal foundry defects of casting alloys EN 43100 manufactured by die casting technology.

Quality of high pressure die castings is influenced by a lot of factors. Among them, the most important ones are the melt-, and die temperatures. This paper shows a data acquisition system, developed for measuring the melt and die temperatures and the results of the temperature measurements obtained under variable conditions. Evaluation of the relationship between the interrelated temperatures and the casting properties is based on analyzing the structure of the castings.

The production of die castings cast into a metal mold has in recent years achieved an expansive growth in the volume as well as the range of production and that is particularly in aviation and automobile industry. A primary criterion for achieving reliability, efficiency and quality of production is to ensure minimization of the castings defects occurrence. For this reason it is necessary to describe the type, scope and frequency of die castings defects and to define the cause of their occurrence.

The Thixoforming of metals is a new forming technology, which combines the advantages of casting and forging. This technology focuses on structural components with complex shapes, which can not be manufactured using conventional processing methods. Different components made of aluminum and magnesium are already industrially produced. Apart from this, the use of steels in the Thixoforming processes is still being researched and developed. During the last years it became obvious that the Thixoforming of steels may not be a complete substitution for highly automated die-casting or forging processes, but rather a new process route to produce special components with high quality and geometrical demands. Special interest lies in the development and production of filigree components, parts with voids or undercuts, integrated elements such as tubes or tube-systems and joining pieces or products made of different materials. Beside the design of suitable tool materials and tool concepts, the development of homogeneous heating strategies and the development of thixoformable steels is at the center of current research. Therefore, this paper focuses on material requirements which are needed for the Thixoforming of steels and on the production of components and occurring problems. By use of a failure catalogue for Thixoforming of steels, reasons for characteristic failures and suggestions are given to avoid them, so that the quality of thixoformed parts can be improved.
