Activity of daily living (ADL) is a significant predictor of the independence and functional capabilities of an individual. Measurements of ADLs help to indicate one’s health status and capabilities of quality living. Recently, the most common ways to capture ADL data are far from automation, including a costly 24/7 observation by a designated caregiver, self-reporting by the user laboriously, or filling out a written ADL survey. Fortunately, ubiquitous sensors exist in our surroundings and on electronic devices in the Internet of Things (IoT) era. We proposed the ADL Recognition System that utilizes the sensor data from a single point of contact, such as smartphones, and conducts time-series sensor fusion processing. Raw data is collected from the ADL Recorder App constantly running on a user’s smartphone with multiple embedded sensors, including the microphone, Wi-Fi scan module, heading orientation of the device, light proximity, step detector, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, etc. Key technologies in this research cover audio processing, Wi-Fi indoor positioning, proximity sensing localization, and time-series sensor data fusion. By merging the information of multiple sensors, with a time-series error correction technique, the ADL Recognition System is able to accurately profile a person’s ADLs and discover his life patterns. This paper is particularly concerned with the care for the older adults who live independently.

In this paper, we build a deep learning network to predict the trends of natural gas prices. Given a time series, for each day, the gas price trend is classified as “up” and “down” according to the price compared to the last day. Meanwhile, we collect news articles as experimental materials from some natural gas related websites. Every article was then embedded into vectors by word2vec, weighted with its sentiment score, and labeled with corresponding day’s price trend. A CNN and LSTM fused network was then trained to predict price trend by these news vectors. Finally, the model’s predictive accuracy reached 62.3%, which outperformed most of other traditional classifiers.

Vehicle pose estimation is essential in autonomous vehicle (AV) perception technology. However, due to the different density distributions of the point cloud, it is challenging to achieve sensitive direction extraction based on 3D LiDAR by using the existing pose estimation methods. In this paper, an optimal vehicle pose estimation network based on time series and spatial tightness (TS-OVPE) is proposed. This network uses five pose estimation algorithms proposed as candidate solutions to select each obstacle vehicle's optimal pose estimation result. Among these pose estimation algorithms, we first propose the Basic Line algorithm, which uses the road direction as the prior knowledge. Secondly, we propose improving principal component analysis based on point cloud distribution to conduct rotating principal component analysis (RPCA) and diagonal principal component analysis (DPCA) algorithms. Finally, we propose two global algorithms independent of the prior direction. We provided four evaluation indexes to transform each algorithm into a unified dimension. These evaluation indexes’ results were input into the ensemble learning network to obtain the optimal pose estimation results from the five proposed algorithms. The spatial dimension evaluation indexes reflected the tightness of the bounding box and the time dimension evaluation index reflected the coherence of the direction estimation. Since the network was indirectly trained through the evaluation index, it could be directly used on untrained LiDAR and showed a good pose estimation performance. Our approach was verified on the SemanticKITTI dataset and our urban environment dataset. Compared with the two mainstream algorithms, the polygon intersection over union (P-IoU) average increased by about 5.25% and 9.67%, the average heading error decreased by about 29.49% and 44.11%, and the average speed direction error decreased by about 3.85% and 46.70%. The experiment results showed that the ensemble learning network could effectively select the optimal pose estimation from the five abovementioned algorithms, making pose estimation more accurate.

In order to solve the abnormal pattern recognition problem of the sensor monitoring data automatically, a set of method on the time series similarity measurement is used in this paper. Abnormal time series patterns clustering analysis based on the DTW distance is proposed firstly, thus the typical time series patterns can be obtained. From which the important shape indexes can be extracted and filtered based on piecewise shape measure method, then the shape index table can be established. With which a pattern recognition system can be designed used to recognize these abnormal patterns on real-time. As a case, this method has been used in a high gas coal mine and the important promotion application value has been proved in the sensor monitoring field.

The standard Morse code defines the tone ratio (dash/dot) and the silent ratio (dash-space/dotspace) as 3:1. Since human typing ratio can't keep this ratio precisely and the two ratios —tone ratio and silent ratio—are not equal, the Morse code can't be recognized automatically. The requirement of the standard ratio is difficult to satisfy even for an ordinary person. As for the unstable Morse code typing pattern, the auto-recognition algorithms in the literature are not good enough in applications. The disabled persons usually have difficulty in maintaining a stable typing speeds and typing ratios, we therefore adopted an Expert-Gating neural network model to implement in single chip and recognize online unstable Morse codes. Also, we used another method—a linear back propagation recalling algorithm, to implement in single chip and recognize unstable Morse codes. From three person tests: Test one is a cerebral palsy; Test two is a beginner: Test three is a skilled expert, we have the results: in the experiment of test one, we have 91.15% (use 6 characters average time series as thresholds) and 91.54% (learning 26 characters) online average recognition rate; test two have 95.77% and 96.15%, and test three have 98.46% and 99.23% respectively. As for linear back propagation recalling method online recognized rate, we have the results from test one: 92.31% online average recognition rate; test two: 96.15%; and test three 99.23% respectively. So, we concluded: The Expert-Gating neural network and the linear back propagation recalling algorithm have successfully overcome the difficulty of analyzing a severely online unstable Morse code time series and successfully implement in single chip to recognize online unstable Morse code.
