Many patients with COVID-19 suffer from arterial hypertension and have marked variations in blood pressure (BP) during the acute period of infection. The reasons for such changes are poorly understood. Purpose. To assess the relationship between the level of BP and the severity of changes in the main clinical and laboratory parameters in patients with arterial hypertension and with a moderate course of COVID-19 at the stage of the height of the disease. Materials and methods. The study included 86 hospitalized patients with verified coronavirus disease of moderate severity: 46 of them were male, the median age was 65 years. Patients received adequate hypertension therapy for a long time. After hospitalization, treatment was adjusted if necessary. The level of laboratory parameters in the acute period of the disease was determined, including the electrolytes, C-reactive protein (CRP), albumin, ferritin, general blood test, etc. BP measured daily. The relationship between laboratory parameters and BP level was evaluated by nonparametric correlation using the Spearman coefficient and multivariate analysis based on the "generalized nonlinear model". Results. In 67.44% of patients with hypertension, an elevated BP level (>140/90) was observed against the background of moderate COVID-19. There was a significant negative correlation between the levels of CRP and BP throughout the stay in the hospital, the most significant is the 5th day of hospitalization. At the same time, a slightly stronger relationship is observed with diastolic BP (r = -0.4425) than with systolic BP (r = -0.3525). A similar trend is observed in all BP measurements. Besides, a negative correlation was found between potassium levels and BP values. The strongest association of potassium levels is with systolic BP on the day of hospitalization (r = -0.4850) and diastolic pressure on the 1st day of hospitalization (r = -0.3561). Multivariate analysis confirmed independent and reliable "influence" of CRP (p = 0.00018) and potassium (p = 0.03921) as independent predictors of diastolic pressure. Conclusions. Most patients with hypertension and moderate COVID-19 have elevated BP levels. There is a statistically significant negative relationship between the values of BP and levels of CRP and potassium. The obtained data may correspond to the existing hypothesis about the significant role of the kinin–kallikrein system in the pathogenesis of COVID-19.

The problems of soil erosion are largely widespread in the countries of the Mediterranean basin. The process of gullying is a complex phenomenon with disastrous consequences. It particularly affects northern Algeria, decreasing the potentialities of the water tanks, reducing cultivable lands availability and degrading infrastructures. Therefore, this work studies the analysis and the prediction of gullying erosion by using a probabilistic approach based on multisource data. The objective of this search is to answer to the three following questions: i) which factors support the process of gullying ? ii) how does a process of gullying develop? iii) which are the zones favourable to gullying ? Works are undertaken on the catchment area of the Isser River. We focused the applications on the upstream part of the basin. In this research, we study a North-South transect which corresponds to three under-basins slopes. The choice of these tests areas answers to four criteria defined in our method: the representativeness, the homogeneity, the availability of former data and, finally, the accessibility. After the completion of the multisource data, modelling and multivariate analysis for the prediction of gullying. The combination factor-process by the univariate analysis allows on the one hand, to highlight the variables controlling the process of gullying, and on the other hand, to analyse the variables on a hierarchical basis and to know their degree of influence. The multivariate analysis, by the logistic regression model (LRM), enabled us to select the significant variables and to locate the most favourable zones for the process of gullying. The validation of the models is evaluated using the curves of lift spin. The results suggest that the factors highlighted by the model to be most influential on gullying erosion are: the lithology, the slope, the morphopedology, the rainfall erosivity and the land cover. The synthesis of this approach is illustrated in the form of charts of gullying erosion risk maps in four classes of probability. The assessment of the study shows the fundamental interest of this approach using geographical information systems and remote sensing, in particular for the watersheds of the southern Mediterranean, with the possibility of extending this methodology to other regions.

Taxonomic distinction to species level of deep water sharks is complex and often impossible to achieve during fisheries-related studies. The species of the genus Etmopterus are particularly difficult to identify, so they often appear without species assignation as Etmopetrus sp. or spp. in studies, even those focusing on elasmobranchs. During this work, the morphometric traits of two species of Etmopterus, E. spinax and E. pusillus were studied using 27 different morphological measurements, relatively easy to obtain even in the field. These measurements were processed with multivariate analysis in order to find out the most important ones likely to separate the two species. Sexual dimorphism was also assessed using the same techniques, and it was found that it does not occur in these species. The two Etmopterus species presented in this study share the same habitats in the overlapping ranges of distribution and are caught together on the outer shelves and slopes of the north-eastern Atlantic.

Abstract Objectives The aim of this study is to investigate clinical features of atypical pulmonary tuberculosis (aPTB) mimicking bacterial pneumonia, determine imaging features with the highest degree of correlation, and identify predictors for acid-fast bacilli (AFB) positivity. Methods The clinical data of 259 patients considered as aPTB were retrospectively analyzed. The correlation of CT patterns was evaluated with Spearman analysis, and the predictors for AFB positivity were assessed with the multivariate analysis. Results The most common symptom of aPTB was cough (84.6%), followed by fever and anorexia (47.1 and 41.7%, respectively). Infiltrated patchy was the most common radiological pattern (84.9%), followed by nodules (3–10 mm), micronodules (<3 mm), and consolidation (79.2, 78.8, and 66.0%, respectively). Nodules (3–10 mm) and micronodules (r = 0.988, p < 0.001), consolidation and air bronchogram (r = 0.590, p < 0.001), and pulmonary atelectasis and consolidation (r = 0.323, p < 0.001) showed high correlation. In the multivariate analysis, hyperpyrexia (OR, 2.29; 95% CI, 1.22–4.29) and bronchiectasis (OR, 2.06; 95% CI, 1.04–4.06) were the predictors of AFB-smear positivity, while bulla (OR, 0.22; 95% CI, 0.05–0.97) was the predictor of AFB-smear negativity. Conclusion This study demonstrated the clinical and radiological features of aPTB mimicking pneumonia. Several paired radiological findings may guide us to the diagnosis of aPTB. Hyperpyrexia and bronchiectasis may be helpful for predicting AFB positivity, and bulla may be a predictive sign of AFB negativity.
