Supplier  selection  and  evaluation  is  fast  becoming  animportant strategic consideration in purchasing and supply.Suppliers  play  an  influential  role  to  the  overall  success  of the  buying  organisation.  Nowadays,  supplier  selection  is firmly  positioned  as  an  alternative  source  for  competitive advantage  for  organisations  with  regards  to  offering  low cost,  high  quality  products  and  services  or  achieving reliability  to  customers.  As  organisations  become  more dependent  on  suppliers,  the  direct  and  indirect consequences of poor decision making on supplier selection will  become  more  critical.  With  the  increasingly  important role of suppliers in supply chain management, the selection process strategy has changed; other than scanning a series of pricelists only, qualitative, quantitative and environmental criteria have now been incorporated into the process.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to present result obtained from a developed technology selection framework and provide a detailed insight into the risk calculations and their implications in manufacturing technology selection process.Design/methodology/approachThe results illustrated in the paper are the outcome of an action research study that was conducted in an aerospace company.FindingsThe paper highlights the role of risk calculations in manufacturing technology selection process by elaborating the contribution of risk associated with manufacturing technology alternatives in the shape of opportunities and threats in different decision‐making environments.Practical implicationsThe research quantifies the risk associated with different available manufacturing technology alternatives. This quantification of risk crystallises the process of technology selection decision making and supports an industrial manager in achieving objective and comprehensive decisions regarding selection of a manufacturing technology.Originality/valueThe paper explains the process of risk calculation in manufacturing technology selection by dividing the decision‐making environment into manufacturing and supply chain environment. The evaluation of a manufacturing technology considering supply chain opportunities and threats provides a broader perspective to the technology evaluation process. The inclusion of supply chain dimension in technology selection process facilitates an organisation to select a manufacturing technology not only according to its own requirements, but also according to the interest of its constituent supply chain.

The supplier selection process is one of the main components of the Freight Activity Microsimulation Estimator (FAME), which is a disaggregated and comprehensive framework that simulates the freight movements for all industries and all commodities in the U.S. However, the supplier selection and supplier evaluation models in the FAME face computational issues. Using the result of a nationwide establishment survey, this study analyzes the supplier selection problem by evaluating the potential suppliers. The buyer’s behavior on selecting the distance range in which the trade forms is analyzed using both machine-learning and statistical approaches. A decision-tree model and an ordered probit model are estimated and compared to better comprehend the supplier evaluation process. The results indicate that several factors such as the type of the business, commodity type, number of orders, and the value of orders are significant factors. In addition, the decision-tree model is reliable in forecasting the consumer’s behavior.

Due to the challenge of rising public awareness of environmental issues and governmental regulations, green supply chain management (SCM) has become an important issue for companies to gain environmental sustainability. Supplier selection is one of the key operational tasks necessary to construct a green SCM. To select the most suitable suppliers, many economic and environmental criteria must be considered in the decision process. Although numerous studies have used economic criteria such as cost, quality, and lead time in the supplier selection process, only some studies have taken into account the environmental issues. This study proposes a comprehensive fuzzy multicriteria decision making (MCDM) approach for green supplier selection and evaluation, using both economic and environmental criteria. In the proposed approach, a fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is employed to determine the important weights of criteria under vague environment. In addition, a fuzzy technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) is used to evaluate and rank the potential suppliers. Finally, a case study in Luminance Enhancement Film (LEF) industry is presented to illustrate the applicability and efficiency of the proposed method.

The aim of this paper is to examine the role of Cash Waqf Linked Sukuk (CWLS) in economic development and trade in Indonesia. This research is motivated by the fact that there is still limited financing to economic development in Indonesia as well as trade financing. The research based on a qualitative methodology using the data from scientific journals and paper in the field of Cash Waqf, including CWLS. The results cash waqf in several countries has been used for beneficiaries.  Especially for CWLS, it consists of 2 types, namely wakaf sukuk and retail waqf sukuk. For waqf sukuk, the proceeds of the waqf have been channelled to finance the construction of the retina center and glaucoma center at the hospital. Meanwhile, retail waqf sukuk are used by each nazir to finance the program. This research shows that CWLS is proven to play a role in economic development, particularly infrastructure. The infrastructure that has been built is in the health sector. CWLS can also be an alternative source of funds with low-cost of fund which in turn enables the Eximbank/ECA to extend trade financing to the cooperative with competitive price. However, there are some action need to be taken, i.e (i) conduct socialization regarding CWLS to improve public awareness and enlarge the wakif base and (ii) issue DSN regulations regarding CWLS.JEL Classification: F13, F63, P33How to Cite:Tanjung, H., & Windiarto, A. This chapter evaluates the merits of Dublin as a venue for international arbitration proceedings. It discusses the history and development of arbitration in Ireland; the processes and rules as well as the role of courts in the conduct of arbitration proceedings; and rules for arbitral awards. It concludes that Dublin should be considered as a low-cost alternative to London, with many of the same advantages, but at lower cost. Ireland is also a party to the New York Convention; has passed a new Arbitration Act (2010), which is a virtually pure form of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Model Law; provides for a dedicated arbitration judge in the High Court, and there is no appeal from the High Court on arbitration matters; and has a high-quality, independent judicial system and a high-quality bar.
