The objective of this study is to propose and operationalise a maturity model assessment of SMART logistics for SMEs. Under the current substantial changes in business practices, the concept of Industry 4.0 (I4.0) has amplified the complexity of the business eco-system, especially for SMEs. Several SMEs have attempted to cultivate the benefits of the technological advancement under the I4.0 concept; however, due to the increasing complexity of technological capabilities and development of adequate strategies, a rising concern of uncertainty hinders the adaptation of new management practices such as SMART logistics. The current paper intends to contribute to fill the scientific ‘gap’ with the question on how SMEs may assess their readiness in adapting the I4.0 and how they could plan their activities and operations to heighten firms’ competitive advantage through SMART logistics in the current business environment. Overall, the authors have identified six dimensions and assigned 18 items for assessing the maturity of I4.0 for SMEs. The model has been transformed into a practical tool that can be used to test the readiness of firms in a real business environment.

<p>In today’s dynamic business environment, for companies to exist, they must continuously look for areas for improvement and gain competitive advantage. It therefore becomes quintessential for companies to know which factors can have a positive effect on the company’s performance. The purpose of this article is thus to explore if there a relationship between the HR expenses of an Indian company and its financial performance and is this impact positive enough to motivate these companies to augment such efforts in improving the HR management practices. For, this purpose, data on expenditure on human resource and profit after tax (PAT) for BSE- SENSEX 30 companies was extracted for the period of10 years. In order to test the hypothesis of this study, correlation and regression analyses were performed. Results of correlation revealed that HR expenditures are positively related to Firms performance. The findings from regression analysis revealed that HR expenditure have statistically significant effect on a firm’s financial performance.</p>

Corporate social responsibility now has become a global phenomenon where businesses all over the world are trying to create and well accepted image in the eyes of stakeholders as well as gain competitive advantage out of such initiatives. The newly evolving themes around corporate social responsibility are not restricted to the social consequences of business action but are built around the aspects like sustainability, resource conservation, waste management, customer satisfaction, power saving and employee satisfaction. These new areas of CSR encompass almost all activities of business and all the systems within the business management. There is ample amount of the research showing correlation between management practices and CSR. The fourth Industrial Revolution is one of the technology-based solutions that is been globally adopted by almost all businesses. This involves cyber physical system-based integration of technology and human effort.This research paper’s purposes is to analyse the influence of Industry 4.0 practices independently as well as along with general management practices of the business on CSR. as per the review of literature, the authors have attempted to understand CSR from the evolving perspective of the concept taking it forward from mere business consciousness to socially responsible business practices. The paper analyses how Industry 4.0 based technologies play an effect on cross functional business activities creating a positive impact on CSR initiatives. This study’s findings suggest that Industry 4.0 has a positive along with cross functional business activities effect on the CSR practices of organizations. Although individually both Industry 4.0 and cross functional business activities have a positive impact on CSR but combined impact of both Industry 4.0 and cross functional business activities is slightly better. Looked from this perspective Industry 4.0 can serve as a technology enabler for CSR.The research has created a guideline for improving CSR activities of organisations. It is also revealed how human technology interaction-based Industry 4.0 solutions impact the CSR performances of the organisations.The paper proposes a novel approach of integrating Industry 4.0 technology solutions with business activities for solving CSR issues. It is bringing forth impact of Industry 4.0 as a technology enabler on CSR, which never been thought earlier and it contributes the addition in literature available.

AbstractAlthough it is an extremely important step to gain sustained competitive advantage in the era of Industry 4.0, the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) for smart logistics can be challenging. In order to successfully implement such technologies, it is crucial, particularly for SMEs, to self-evaluate their own readiness for integrating technologies for smart logistics. This research proposes a readiness model which can be used as a guideline before implementing technologies for smart logistics at the SMEs level. It describes essential elements in the integration of ICT and CPS for smart logistics, as well as the potential five stages of implementation, which are initial, trial, organized, automated, and optimized.

Maturity models seek to enhance a business with the passage of time. The purpose is to attain a competitive advantage. Various maturity models are accessible, including the continuous improvement maturity model (CIMM). The model offers outstanding techniques and practice models in addition to tools, skill sets, and a proper mindset to process improvement. This article analyzes the need for Continuous Improvement Maturity Models in a company. Hence, the current maturity of a company cannot be indicated by this model. There is a need for progress and knowledge to combine and improve the company's level of maturity. The model assessment refers to an instrument that is research-based and assists the users to set a goal assessment of the maturity level. The purpose of designing this model is for it to be utilized by any manufacturing company. A series of repetitive phases are required by this instrument, and its moderations and validation are based on various case-studies and semi-structured interviews conducted with experts.

Land, labour, capital, raw materials, innovation, human resources, research and development have all been credited as sources of sustainable competitive advantage (SCA). Yet sources of sustainable competitive advantages continuously change, and transformations in the business environment cause shifts in the sources. A viable method to generate sustainable competitive advantages is knowledge management, and this study empirically links the concept of knowledge management to sustainable competitive advantage. The study investigates how knowledge management practices can be employed to improve strategic positioning and competitiveness in service industries, particularly business schools.

Undoubtedly, the competitive business environment arising from current global economic challenges and the rapid technological advancement among other pertinent issues, pose a serious challenge for businesses especially, those within emerging market enclaves. This situation necessitates proactive measures, innovation as well as strategic approaches to change management in a bid to salvage most of these businesses from collapsing. This research aims at examining the role played by strategic change management in emerging markets from the Ghanaian perspective. In view of this, the study reviewed related literature from electronic books, articles and reports on areas such as emerging markets, strategic management and change management practices. Observations from this research include highlights of the significant challenges faced by businesses in emerging markets due to difficulty in obtaining critical resources and the fast-growing competitive global business environment. It was also discovered that strategic Change management is a very important practice used over the years to enhance the achievement of organisational goals. However, many industries in emerging markets may find it difficult to maximize such measures due to numerous reasons and myths about change. There is therefore the need for the adoption of strategic change practices to enhance the success of businesses and promote competitiveness in the midst of the global economic challenges. In addition, the authors recommend exploration of further research in other interest areas that have relevance for emerging markets.

The main objective of this chapter was to explore if collective green creativity and eco-innovation can create novel and sustainable business and management practices. A literature review approach was conducted on the link between collective creativity, innovation, and sustainable business practices. It was found that collective green creativity and eco-innovation can create sustainable business practices. The process starts with the creative individual which needs creative thinking skills, creative motivation, green mindfulness and green self-efficacy. A creative collective is then created using their creative intelligence and creative exchange to create a shared green vision. The creative collective requires green transformational leadership with access to green dynamic capabilities and resources to be effective in the business environment. This creative collective follows the six-step creative problem-solving process which enables the collective to create eco-innovation using an additional four steps. The end result is novel and sustainable business practices and solutions.

The main objective of this article is to describe Industry 4.0 and key manufacturing-technology-related technological and business challenges for manufacturing companies. The groups especially interested in the industry 4.0 implementation are operations, technical and production directors responsible for operational excellence of manufacturing plants, strategic development and business continuity. Based on latest Industry 4.0 and manufacturing technology market research, factories located in Poland are less technologically advanced than its counterparts in West European plants. Accordingly, development of the model for assessing the current level of maturity for manufacturing technology related to Industry 4.0 initiative becomes a relevant research task. In the article, key Industry 4.0 related technological areas will be described. Based on the extensive research into international references and industrial consulting experiences in industrial business consulting conducted in Polish manufacturing companies, the manufacturing technology ManuTech Maturity Model (MTMM) concept related to Industry 4.0 will be developed and presented. A substantial and innovative part of the article will be devoted to the adjustment of proposed maturity model to specific features of the Polish industrial and manufacturing sector. This will be relevant due to noticeable differences in the level of technological advancement between Western and Eastern Europe sectors.

In today’s era of global competition, the business organizations across the world are in search of sustainable competitive advantage. The competitive advantage may be reflected in offering superior products or services at lower cost. Cost-based and differentiation-based business strategies are prerequisite for growth and survival of business organizations in today’s turbulent, dynamic and complex business environment. Global competition is also characterized by increasing dynamics of innovation related to all the facets of the product life cycle. The ability to effect higher efficiency coupled with enhance quality of product or service, such Total Quality Management, allows one to better control the cost base whilst swimming in the stream of dynamic innovation. Owing to liberalization of the Indian economy, Indian industry is also experiencing an increasing pressure for improvement in quality of its products and services, for which it is adopting tools and techniques of quality improvement. In general, there has been an appreciable improvement in adoption of quality concepts in recent years in the Indian industries. The present study which is empirical in nature focuses on the study of quality management practices in Indian manufacturing organizations. This paper also attempts to study the relationship between main quality management practice dimensions and superior product quality outcomes.
