Purpose Hospital evaluations create competition between healthcare providers. In this study, a multi criteria decision-making (MCDM) method is used to evaluate criteria that affect hospital service quality. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach Criteria affecting hospital service quality are identified. Four Iranian public hospitals are evaluated using these criteria. Four hybrid methods, including modified digital logic–technique for order of preference by similarity to an ideal solution, analytical hierarchy process–technique for order of preference by similarity to an ideal solution, analytical hierarchy process–elimination and choice expressing reality and modified digital logic–elimination and choice expressing reality are used to evaluate hospital service quality. Results are aggregated using the Copeland method and final ranks are determined. Findings The four main criteria for evaluating hospital service quality are: environment; responsiveness; equipment and facilities; and professional capability. Results suggest that professional capability is the most important criterion. The Copeland method, used to integrate four MCDM hybrid methods, provides the final hospital ranks. Practical implications The criteria the authors identified and their weight help hospital managers to achieve comprehensive organizational growth and more efficient resource usage. Moreover, the decision matrix helps managers to identify their strengths and weaknesses. Originality/value New and comprehensive criteria are proposed for hospital quality assessments. Moreover, a new hybrid MCDM approach is used to achieve final hospital rankings.

The selection of quality gemstones requires a special ability to select and assess the quality of gemstones to be traded. The diversity of types of gemstones and consumers becomes an obstacle in itself when the knowledge and ability of individuals to analyze the quality of gemstones is minimal. The decision-making method used is Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (F-AHP) method which is widely used in various sectors. F-AHP is easy to adapt to many decision issues; the research proposes a decision-making system using the F-AHP algorithm to analyze the quality of gemstones. The results obtained with the use of F-AHP model in the selection of quality gemstones show the highest quality of gemstones of all stones compared, Rubi 1, with a weight value of 0.152942.

Patients’ satisfaction in public hospitals in Jakarta is decreased due to the increase participant of outpatients using national health insurance. One of the principle influenced satisfaction is services. The purpose of this research is to get priority improvement of service quality dimension. ServQual method is used to obtain the patient’s perception and expectation gap on hospital services. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used to obtain the dimension importance weight. Five experts were involved on choosing the appropriate service dimension. Questionnaires were given to 400 patients. Results showed that the largest gap on overall services dimension and sub-dimension are cleanliness, comfort of check room and bathroom. The weight of importance is included, results show the priority improvement of trust dimension and sub-dimension doctor is checking the patient’s condition correctly.

The results of potential survey by IUCN and LPSPL Sorong showed the abundance value of napoleon fish (Cheilinus undulatus) in Raja Ampat Regency was low category. Nonetheless, the fisher quota for its utilization because it is one of the main sources of livelihood. The utilization activities should be followed by control of effort to maintain resource sustainability. Implementation of fishing control and management decisions has not been done optimally, therefore it need to be set based on priority scale. The purpose of this study were to identify conditions of utilization and to determine the priority scale to control utilization of napoleon wrasse fishery in Raja Ampat Regency. Determination of priority scale were analyzed with Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) model by involving experts in the field of conservation in the assessment. Based on the results of identification, the condition of the utilization of napoleon fish in Raja Ampat Regency was not with the regulation. The results of the assessment with AHP model showed that the most important criteria to control utilization of napoleon wrasse fishery is sustainable fish resources, and alternatives priority order are socialization/awareness program to fishers/live fish buyer (value 0.2935), surveillance (value 0.2715), periodic density surveys (value 0.2181) and implementation of trade air-only (value 0.2169).

There are two major problems in the evaluation of the teaching quality of English writing: the weak logic of the evaluation system and the low reliability of the evaluation model. To solve the problems, this paper put forward an evaluation method for the teaching quality of English writing based on the analytical hierarchy process (AHP). Firstly, the authors reviewed the current evaluation methods for the teaching quality of English writing. Next, hierarchical evaluation systems were established for the teaching quality of English writing from the perspectives of teachers and students, respectively. After that, the AHP method and the grey theory were introduced to set up an evaluation model for the teaching quality of English writing. Finally, several strategies were presented to improve the teaching quality of English writing. The proposed evaluation systems and model enriched the theories on teaching quality evaluation of English writing, and promoted the teaching quality of English writing.
