This chapter introduces project-based learning approach which is used in the Oulu University of Applied Sciences (OUAS), School of Engineering and Natural Resources, Mechanical Engineering Department to get local companies to offer project works to mechanical engineering students. The concept is based on organizing a local event or online event for the companies to come to OUAS campus to present their challenges needing engineering students to solve. The companies are then competing, selling, or pitching their problem for engineering students as the engineering students will then individually select the most interesting cases to be solved, and which has linkage to potential summer job and thesis work opportunities if projects are successful. The concept has proven to be successful, and it has been established as traditional event with many companies returning to the pitching event annually to get their industry problems solved by group of motivated engineering students.

Abstract Acoustic conditions, considered an indicator of the level of comfort, are a major concern in educational facilities since they are linked to students’ well-being and learning capacity. In this study, measurements of the acoustical comfort conditions were performed using portable IEQ meter have been assessed in four selected areas of environmental engineering department building (The classroom for fourth year, student’s corridor, teacher’s corridor and reception area) in the University of Babylon in Hillah City. This was done by analyzing the data measured for 13 months from August (2020) to August (2021). Statistical analysis by using the linear regression test was performed to determine the relationship between the selected areas. Noise is the major parameter for the educational areas that can interfere with the students’ activities and eventually, this will have a detrimental effect on the students’ physical and psychological health. The acquired results were compared to the reference values specified in the handbook to international standards for noise compliance in academic educational facilities. The results show that all the studied areas in the Environmental Engineering Department had back-ground noise levels out of the recommended threshold limit values (>50 dB) revealed that the indoor environment of these areas was of poor quality, indicating the require for interventions. This study can be considered a pilot study for future comparable research on Iraqi universities.

The use of wood as a construction material for simple bridges has begun to be abandoned and switch to concrete or steel bridges with considerations of durability and structural strength. However, from an ecological perspective, wood is still the most renewable material by nature itself. Returning to ecologic natural materials is an issue of the United Nation that needs to be supported by educational institutions. This community service begins with determining the span and height of the bridge, followed by planning and calculating the strength of the material. The parts of the bridge are manufactured in the workshop of the Civil Engineering Department, Samarinda State Polytechnic. The assembly and erection processes are carried out in the field. The uniqueness of this program is in the application of the wooden arc bridge model with a raft unloading system by presenting an attractive aesthetic, so that it is hoped that it can again become an option in determining the type of bridge for users.

Bandung Polytechnic for Manufacturing (Polman Bandung) as one of the educational institutions that uses Production Based Education (PBE) in the teaching and learning process needs to prepare graduates who can compete in Industry that demands adequate creativity and skills. In order to ensure that graduates are the best and ready to enter the working and industry, the D3 Study Program - Precision Tool Manufacturing Technology (TPPP), which is under the Manufacturing Engineering Department, Polman Bandung, needs to carry out a fundamental transformation in its curriculum. To realize it, this Study Program carries out an Assessment Program for Curriculum Alignment that analyzing industry satisfaction from competencies of graduates. The competency consists of the core competency, hardskills competency, and softskill competency. The purpose of this study is to find out the gap between competency of students and industrial needs and analyzing industry satisfaction with the quality of academic services at Polman Bandung. The analytical method used was Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) method, this method is an analysis technique which is used to find out which competencies need to be increased. The sampling data was collected from graduates in the last 3 years, industries in which graduates of the last 3 years work, student in the last year, and lecturer. The measured competencies will be classified in 4 quadrants, quadrant 1 recommended to be improved, quadrant 2 is satisfying and its performance must be maintained, quadrant 3 low priority, and quadrant 4 overkill. Based on IPA analysis, the competency which need to be improved comes from quadrant 1 as known a high priority improvement. The results of this competency gap will be analyzed to improve education program by transforming its curriculum.

Interactive learning media is one of the tools in the learning process. With interactive learning media, it will help students understand the learning material better, especially subjects that require practice to better understand the theory being taught. Web programming subjects in vocational schools are one of the subjects that have a lot of practicums. Therefore, to support the delivery of the subject matter, good interactive learning media are needed and are following the needs of students. This PKM aims to provide training on the use of web-based interactive learning media for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) that have been developed so that students understand more about designing web-based applications. This activity was carried out at SMKN 1 Selong, with 25 participants from the Software Engineering department. The activity lasted for 4 months. The method used is lectures and direct practice on WEB-based software engineering with lecturers from the Informatics Engineering study program, Hamzanwadi University. The material presented is in the form of steps to make simple software by utilizing existing technology and seeing some examples that have been prepared previously by the resource person to be used by students. For this method use a computer with a local network. The results of the activity show that students can master basic techniques for WEB-based software and students are also able to make simple WEB-based applications by applying the concept of good system analysis.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought changes to the whole world. This pandemic also has an impact on the learning system in Indonesia. From the previous face-to-face learning to online learning, including for English courses. This study aims to elaborate on what challenges were faced by students during online English learning, and what suggestions were given to face and solve these challenges. The object of this research was the first semester students of Mechanical Engineering at the Tanah Laut State Polytechnic. There were 33 students in the Mechanical Engineering department. By using qualitative research methods from written response data and semi-structured interviews, the results showed that there were challenges in the form of unstable or poor internet connections, sudden power outages, lack of interest in learning, and even running out of internet quota while studying. Students also suggested that each material had a learning video that could be replayed at home. They also suggested giving assignments in the form of direct practice with online interaction so that it was easier to understand and corrected directly by lecturers. Furthermore, they suggested apps for more enjoyable English learning related to a machine or their field. This study provided an overview of the online English learning process for mechanical engineering students during the pandemic. It is hoped that in the future it will be able to come up with better solutions to the existing challenges.

This study was used to identify and increase the interest of students of the Department of Petroleum Engineering, Faculty of Mineral Technology, UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta in publishing scientific articles. the publication of scientific articles has an effect on improving the quality of majors in a university so that it is necessary to support the increase in the publication of scientific articles. The method used in this research is quantitative in the form of socialization, questionnaires, and holding competitions to explore potential interests and talents, as well as awarding student work appreciation. The results obtained from this study are in the form of increasing the quality of publications from competitions conducted with 3 scientific articles with national journal standards and 4 standard posters. From this progress, it is hoped that interest in writing standardized scientific articles will continue to increase, thus the quality of education and achievement of scientific work indicators of a university is achieved.

Over recent years, timetable programming in academic settings has become particularly challenging due to such factors as the growing number of students, the variety of lectures, the inadequacy of educational facilities in some areas, and the incorporation of teachers and students’ preferences into the schedule. Many researchers, therefore, have been formulating the problem of timetabling lectures using different methods. In this research, a multiobjective mixed-integer programming model was developed to provide a timetable for the postgraduate courses at the Industrial Engineering Department of Islamic Azad University, Najafabad Branch (IAUN). The proposed model minimized the violation of the lecturers and educational priorities, the student travel time between classes, and the classes’ surplus capacity. To convert the multiobjective model into a single one, the ε-constraint method was adopted, and the model’s accuracy and feasibility were examined through a real example solved by the CPLEX solver of GAMS software. The results approved the efficiency of this model in preparing a timetable for university lectures.

The purpose of this study is to apply virtual reality technology for university presentation, so that evaluate if it is useful and usable. Due to the pandemic situation, the topic is also relevant to the current situation as many universities have shifted to online classes. With 3D modelling and coding, a university presentation application (only for computer engineering department) with virtual reality base has been developed that will allow the user to navigate around the school building and its surroundings. Because the developed application uses a new technology, it is designed to be convenient and simple considering that it can be difficult to use. Application allows movement in this virtual world according to constraints, as well as providing sound warnings when necessary. The application tested with a helmeted display, represented by Google Cardboard, with two lenses in it and a groove for the phone. The limited experiments by different users showed that the application was impressive, although it was not easy to use devices efficiently for an unexperienced user. On the other hand, with emerging technologies, it is possible develop such applications as web application using Unity WebVR Assests which will make it easy of use.

The usage of videos in undergraduate students’ engineering education has gained importance in recent years. Videos, which are used as a supportive tool in traditional engineering education, have become a source of information in online learning environments. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of educational videos on engineering undergraduate students’ laboratory applications and its examination of opinions developed within the scope of e-learning. For this purpose, the sample consisting of 50 undergraduate students from the civil engineering department has been used for this research. Pre-test and post-test process conducted within the scope of in this research were resulted in a meaningful difference after the analyses of Paired Samples t-Test (p=0.02) was made. This result shows that online learning platforms in engineering education and educational videos positively affect the students’ attitude. In addition, it is found out that educational videos affect the learning process as a useful educational source. Moreover, the instructors’ educational videos, which are Digital Learning Materials, positively impact the students’ motivation during the courses.
