Metal forming industry is frequently characterized by the demand of small-batch productions to manufacture highly customized products. Apart from the accuracy that is mandatory in high-tech applications, one of the main requirements remains the economic competitiveness that becomes critical in the case of the deformation of thick metal sheets due to the relevant forming loads and the large size of the machines that are required to perform such processes. These problems are partially solved by using incremental forming approaches, in which the deformation is gradually performed by the use of one (single point) or two (double-sided) tools that are usually made to slide on the metal sheet surface while they impose the desired deformation. The paper aims at introducing an innovative concept of incremental forming machine to perform double-sided incremental bends, specifically developed for thick metal sheets. The increased flexibility and the possibility to manufacture sound parts with reduced bending forces are shown and discussed.

Pilot-scale experiments were conducted to investigate removal of Cryptosporidium parvum by contact granular filtration. The research demonstrated enhanced removal of Cryptosporidium parvum in the presence of kaolin particles. This is believed to be due electrostatic adhesion of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts to the kaolin clay particles. The elementary physico-chemical interactions between filter granules and suspension particles will be discussed. This innovative concept was successfully implemented to reduce the ripening sequence of subsequent filtration experimental test runs by the addition of large surface area particles to slurry of kaolin and Cryptosporidium parvum in surface water.

Based on resource carrying capacity, this study used the revised theory of relative resource carrying capacity (RRCC) and introduced an innovative concept of relative fossil energy carrying capacity (RFECC), which evaluates the degree of fossil energy sustainability based on the relationship between economy, population, and environment. This study took China and the United States as the study objects, took the whole country as the reference area, and calculated the RFECC of population, economic, and environmental resources from 2000 to 2018. Therefore, based on the comparative analysis, the following conclusions were drawn: (i) there is a big difference in the RFECC between China and the United States, which is manifested in the inverted U-shaped trend in China and the U-shaped trend in the United States; (ii) the relative fossil energy carrying states in China and the United States are different, mainly reflected in the economy and environment; (iii) the gap in RFECC between China and the United States has gradually widened; in general, China’s economic RFECC is better than that of the United States, while environmental RFECC and population RFECC in the United States is better than that of China; and (iv) coal and oil should be used as a breakthrough point for the sustainable fossil energy and sustainable development for China and the United States, respectively.

This article examines the national and European policy contexts that shaped the Swedish internationalisation agenda in higher education since 2000, the policy ideas that were mobilised to promote it, and the national priorities that steered higher education debates. The analysis highlights how domestic and European policy priorities, as well as discourses around increasing global economic reach and building solidarity across the world, have produced an internationalisation strategy that is distinctly ‘national’. Drawing on the analysis of the most recent internationalisation strategies we argue that the particular Swedish approach to internationalisation has its ideational foundations in viewing higher education as a political instrument to promote social mobility and justice, as well as a means to develop economic competitiveness and employability capacity. In addition, internationalisation has been used to legitimise national reform goals, but also as a policy objective on its own with the ambition to position Sweden as a competitive knowledge nation in a global context.

AbstractThe following work gives an overview of telemedical consultation in emergencies based on a research project. A telemedical centre located at a university hospital offers medical expertise for rural islands independent from place, time and urgency. Medical employees on the islands were relieved in matters of responsibilities and received medical support whenever it is necessary. Results from the projects mid-term evaluation compare the innovative concept with the conventional approach.
