Over the last two decades, there has been a growing emphasis on the transformation of higher education within Europe. The promotion of active and democratic citizenship through formal higher education is a primary concern. Service-learning (SL) has proven to be a powerful didactic methodology for achieving these ideals. The objective of this paper is to highlight some reflections that permeate SL european experiences, published in the European Observatory of Service-Learning in Higher Education, between January 2020 and September 2021. The counting and percentages of the valued attitudes of SL experiences were collected to explore the guiding philosophy, historical roots, purposes, and underpinning features of SL, contextual factors affecting the practice of SL in the partner institutions and countries, and future challenges and opportunities. Conclusions focus on SL growth and mainstreaming; SL as a core strategic pillar for developing deeper community-higher education partnerships and for strengthening civic engagement across higher education; the need to develop future research to explore these connections and the potential that SL can play in terms of increased civic, work-life and theoretical understandings and skills.

Against the background of recent changes to EU legislation to meet the demands and needs of LGBTIQ* communities, the authors seek to situate a queered and diversified understanding of gender firmly at the centre of the gender equality discourse in higher education (HE). Based on case examples, the legal and discursive status quo in German and Dutch HE institutions as well as actors’ motivations, challenges and opportunities are examined through a queer lens. The results highlight how differently EU legislation is transposed into national law. They also show that change is currently driven by highly motivated individual actors, be they students, gender equality and diversity officers, or individual institutions. We argue that queering and diversifying should be understood and used as modes to reflect on and analyse the processes that lead to heteronormative understandings of gender in HE and to develop strategies that take the complexities of gendered identities and discrimination into account.

The performance of institutions issquarely anchored with different factors that affect the institutional credibility and successeither positively ornegatively. The best performance on the part of institutions isthe most dynamic issuefor the institutions in attaining the desired objectives,ranking,and success.Still, there exists a dynamism that facilitatesas well asinterrupt the performance of the institutions in which academic, economic,and political aspectsare the foremost.These factors are responsible either for the success orfailure of higher education institutions in developing countries like Pakistan. In this connection, the present study confirmsand validate the existence of the relationship between certaindynamic factorsand institutional performance by collecting primary data overquestionnaire from respondents hailing from higher education institutions of KP, Pakistan. A total of325 respondents wereselected from the entire populationover simple random sampling techniques wherein each member of subset has an equal probability of being selection. Data wereanalyzed throughstatistical procedures (i.e., correlation and regression) to examine the hypotheses as developed from the theoretical framework. The results are valuable by providing significant information about the relationship (association, causeand effect) among the research variables and recommendations for future research.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the main strategic considerations facing the libraries of national museums over the next decade, and to examine anticipated future service and resource development priorities. Design/methodology/approach An explanatory sequential mixed-methods study was undertaken, consisting of a quantitative research phase followed by a qualitative phase. An online survey was sent to the head librarians of two hundred national museum libraries for the quantitative phase. Semi-structured interviews were undertaken with the head librarians at seven national museum libraries for the qualitative phase. The survey data were analysed using descriptive statistics and the interview data were analysed through use of recursive abstraction. Mixing of the data occurred following the qualitative phase. Findings National museum libraries are facing a complex array of future challenges and opportunities as a result of a rapidly changing socio-technical landscape, evolving organisational needs and priorities and ongoing operational constraints. The main strategic considerations for many national museum libraries relate to their preparedness for these issues, and their ability to deliver services and resources that are relevant, required, and responsive to the future research needs of internal and external users. It seems likely that development priorities will focus on consolidating high impact services and resources, whilst also expanding provision into new areas that have the greatest potential for growth. Originality/value This study identifies issues of strategic importance for national museum libraries and examines the main priority areas being considered by museum librarians as they prepare to develop their libraries into the third decade of the twenty-first century.

Research performance of lecturers in higher education institutions has become an important topic but many variables are still largely unexplored in current literature. The main objective of this study is to examine the impact of four leadership behaviors of department heads and coworkers on the lecturers’ research performance and the moderating effects of achievement value. A survey was conducted with a sample of 408 Vietnamese lecturers at economics and business management focused universities. Our findings contribute to the literature of job performance in higher education from an organizational behavior perspective by explaining the mid-level impacts of departmental factors affecting research performance. We also discuss potential implications and make recommendations for future research.

AbstractThe aim of the paper is to perform an analysis of the current state of Romanian higher education taking into account the changes, challenges and opportunities for a sustainable higher education system, and performing an integrative and anticipative approach to education. The relevance of the topic is supported by the endeavour of integrating Romanian education in the European higher education and the European research area. The paper shall clarify certain concepts: sustainability in higher education; formal vs. informal vs. non-formal education; degree vs competencies. and reach certain conclusions regarding graduates adaptability to labour market and society requirements.
