The Mn loaded ACF (ACF-Mn), prepared by impregnation method combined with activation method under high temperature, can be used to adsorb the low concentration SO2. The modified ACF was characterized by iodine value and functional groups. The adsorption properties of low concentration SO2 on ACF-Mn-Cu50 were also studied. The result showed that the adsorption properties were improved with the granular Cu. Amount of Mn particles attached to the surface of ACF and the desulfurization rate of ACF-Mn-Cu50 both increased after second modification when the adsorption temperature was 60°C, the air velocity was Q1=0.3 L/min and Q2=0.4 L/min respectively and the concentration of SO2 was 0.62×10-4 μg/ml.

ABSTRACT The conserved chaperone Hsp31 of Escherichia coli is transcribed at low temperatures by σS and repressed by H-NS, whereas at high temperature, transcription is by σ70 independently of both σS and H-NS. Here we present evidence for an additional, novel, temperature-dependent control of Hsp31 expression by increased transcript stability.

An Escherichia coli strain carrying an amber mutation (UAG) in rpoC, the gene encoding the beta prime subunit of RNA polymerase, was isolated after mutagenesis with nitrosoguanidine. The mutation was moved into an unmutagenized strain carrying the supD43,74 allele, which encodes a temperature-sensitive su1 amber suppressor, and sue alleles, which enhance the efficiency of the suppressor. In this background, beta prime is not synthesized at high temperature. Suppression of the mutation by the non-temperature-sensitive amber suppressor su1+ yields a protein which is functional at all temperatures examined (30, 37, and 42 degrees C).
