The passage of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act (PRWORA) of 1996 has major implications for low-income Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) populations. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the research currently examining the impact of welfare reform on AAPI recipients and the welfare-to-work services available to this population. This article highlights AAPI participation and their timing-out rates in California’s CalWORKs program and their barriers to transitioning to work. Four welfare-to-work program models and recommendations are presented to illustrate strategies that can be used to address the unique needs of AAPI in order to alleviate their high risk for timing-out: one-stop-shops, transitional jobs programs, providing comprehensive and family focused services, and additional research and evaluation of programs specific to assisting the AAPI population on CalWORKs.

The paper describes how to determine the noise in a production hall where there are production machines and equipment. The chosen plant is a production unit where filling of the polyurethane foam tubes is performed. The main activity is the production of professional insulators and wholesale of other products from the same range enumerating the following: wholesale chemical products; production of professional insulators; trade in chemicals and chemical industry. The recommended maximum admissible value for a normal 8h work program is 85 dB (A). The objective is to determine the level of noise in the factory and how it acts as a physical professional risk factor and its effects on the human body. The way in which the proposed objective was achieved was to determine the value of the noise level with the specialized equipment. Following the determinations that will be presented in the following chapters, appropriate protective measures have been taken.

Abstract Persistent stress of external or internal origin accelerates aging, increases risk of aging related health disorders, and shortens lifespan. Stressors activate stress response genes, and their products collectively influence traits. The variability of stressors and responses to them contribute to trait heterogeneity, which may cause the failure of clinical trials for drug candidates. The objectives of this paper are: to address the heterogeneity issue; to evaluate collective interaction effects of genetic factors on Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and longevity using HRS data; to identify differences and similarities in patterns of genetic interactions within two genders; and to compare AD related genetic interaction patterns in HRS and LOADFS data. To reach these objectives we: selected candidate genes from stress related pathways affecting AD/longevity; implemented logistic regression model with interaction term to evaluate effects of SNP-pairs on these traits for males and females; constructed the novel interaction polygenic risk scores for SNPs, which showed strong interaction potential, and evaluated effects of these scores on AD/longevity; and compared patterns of genetic interactions within the two genders and within two datasets. We found there were many genes involved in highly significant interactions that were the same and that were different within the two genders. The effects of interaction polygenic risk scores on AD were strong and highly statistically significant. These conclusions were confirmed in analyses of interaction effects on longevity trait using HRS data. Comparison of HRS to LOADFS data showed that many genes had strong interaction effects on AD in both data sets.
