Investigating Undergraduates’ Perceptions on Employability Skills in the UAE: an Analytic hierarchy Process Model in Engineering and Business Students

This study aims to provide a platform of undergraduates’ employability skills in non-Western context, specifically, in the UAE. Undergraduates who have completed 90 credit hours of the courses in bachelor studies from business and engineering colleges was randomly sampled in the biggest private university in Abu Dhabi. Questionnaires were distributed with an explanation of the purpose of the elements in the questionnaire to propose an AHP model for employability skills. Consistent with prior studies, communication skills, teamwork, problem solving, and technology was found to be significant and are considered as the upmost important employability skills for business and engineering undergraduates. The significant of the study is also discussed.

Supplier evaluation and selection is always the key problem in supply chain management, and models and algorithms are various. AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) model is one of them. For the evaluation and selection problem’s weakness of a supplier, this paper proposes an improved AHP model which uses the information entropy to establish each weight of evaluating criteria’ objectively and determines the projects’ evaluation weight based on the criteria with exponential transformation. At last, one case result shows that the model is scientific and effective.

Marginal materials, also called sub-standard materials, have the potential to replace premium materials in local roads. However, the current definition of marginal materials suffers from the limitation of focusing on whether or not each single property meets the corresponding requirement of specifications rather than reflecting the overall performance of the materials. To overcome this limitation and to better understand the concept of ‘marginal material’, this study was conducted using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) framework to evaluate the overall performance of five aggregates and an assumed boundary aggregate based on multiple factors (various engineering properties and performance). The aggregates were ranked through comparing the overall weight of each material, which was obtained based on the analysis of the relative weights of criteria and sub-criteria along with data processing of engineering properties.The AHP model is a good method to select the best aggregates within a number of given aggregates. It can describe the overall performance of aggregates in a quantitative way, which allows the qualities of the aggregates to be compared to each other so that the proper aggregates can be selected for different road construction purposes. The validation of the AHP model demonstrates that the AHP analyzed qualities of the aggregates match well to their qualities in field road construction, but there is a need to make a combination analysis on the individual properties (specification pass/fail criteria) and overall performance (AHP model) in the process of evaluating the quality of aggregates.https://doi.org/10.13022/ijahp2017.v9.is1.358

<p>In order to better plan health based interventions, educators and health promoters need to make decisions in this regard. In the meantime, it should be noted that, multiple criteria decision making methods with theoretical roots and accuracy of forecasting results are less considered.</p><p>The current study is a descriptive research carried out on 15 experts working in Yazd Health Centers using purposeful sampling. In order to identify wrong eating habits of students, Delphi method is used. In the next step, these habits are compared, one by one, and scored with Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) Model. In the end, data are analyzed using Expert Choice 11 software.</p><p>Seven major wrong eating habits of female adolescents are identified: junk food consumption, drinking soda and sweet drinks, eating fast food, deleting main meals, improper diets, low intake of vegetables, and not eating breakfast. Among these, low intake of vegetables, eating fast food, and not eating breakfast, with weight rate of 32.4%, 19.4% and 19.3%, are specified as the first three priorities of education.</p><p>In various fields of education and health promotion, including prioritizing training needs, employing techniques with potentials of assessing multiple criteria at the same time can be highly efficient. </p>

This study aims to find out the optimum extraction time varied from 5 min to 60 min for extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) from sewage sludge pretreated at 80 °C. The change of the contents of EPS and its components under different time limit were recorded and compared. The results showed: the contents of soluble protein, TOC, soluble sugar and DNA was increased by 579.17 mg/l, 514.25 mg/l, 132.79 mg/l, and 34.69 mg/l, respectively, with the increase of thermal pre-treatment time during the process, and the DNA content increased the least, which indicating that the effect of thermal pre-treatment at 80 °C on cell lysis of sewage sludge was small. The EPS content, as a whole, was increased with the increase of thermal pre-treatment time. By analyzing the experimental data with the Analytic Hierarchy Process Model, which was used to identify the optimum thermal pre-treatment time of extracting EPS, the results showed that the effectiveness of EPS extraction from sludges was 30 min>60 min>50 min>20 min>40 min>10 min>5 min. Therefore, the 30 min was choosed as the optimum thermal pre-treatment time.
