Abstract The study addressed the effect of the structure of silicone polyethers on selected functional properties of cotton fabric rinsed in conditioners containing the additives under study. Fabric softener formulations containing two comb-structured compounds (PEG/PPG-14/0 Dimethicone and PEG/PPG-20/20 Dimethicone) and one block-structured compound (Bis-PEG/PPG-20/20 Dimethicone) were developed. Cotton fabric rinsed in conditioners containing silicone glycols was not found to be affected by yellowing. However, differences were noted in the softening ability and re-wettability of rinsed fabrics due to diverse structures of the additives used. The most desirable soft hand effect was observed after cotton rinsing in fabric softeners containing the block-structured compound Bis-PEG/PPG-20/20 Dimethicone. In contrast, the highest fabric re-wettability was shown for the conditioner enriched with a comb-structured compound (PEG/PPG-20/20 Dimethicone). The study results demonstrate that the prototypical fabric softeners containing silicone derivatives have a potential to provide quality characteristic required by consumers of this product group.

Fermented milk products have functional properties which are useful for human health. Therefore this product group is frequently recommended for young children nutrition. Though until recently there were concerns among pediatricians about using of adapted acidified formulas instead of non-acidified. Modern data on administration efficiency and safety of adapted acidified formulas with probiotics is discussed, as well as functional effects of such formulas in infants are covered in this review.

Ecological and economic responsibilities have led to the search for alternative material applications in the textile sector as well as in all sectors. Sol-gel technology is one of these applications with advantages such as realization under low temperatures and enabling the desired product shape and format. In this study, the samples of 100% cotton fabric have been processed by using pigment printing technique with natural pumice, amorphous silica and colemanite materials and printing fixation process has been performed by using the sol gel coating method. The sol gel treatment has been carried out with basic catalyst according to the zeta potentials of the solid particulate materials used. After the new created process, surface morphologies, EDS point analysis and F-TIR analysis of all fabric samples have been performed. In addition, the properties such as strength, UV protection, air permeability, water permeability, abrasion resistance, flammability of all fabrics have been investigated. The results of surface analysis have proven that the chemical components of the natural materials are transferred to the fabric samples. It has been proven by the test results that all cotton fabric samples are given high strength, UV protection, flammability, high abrasion resistance and low air permeability. Interpretation of all the analysis and obtained test results has been also made statistically. According to the study results, ecofriendly process step has been created that allows low energy cost and low chemical usage under low temperatures

The mechanism of softening effect for fabric softeners has been explained as lowering of friction between the fibers. This explanation, however, has not been verified. The trend date of B-value of KES-FB2 and the result of perfect drying cotton threads indicate that the increase of hardness of cotton threads after the process of wetting by water and drying is caused by the cross-linking by the bound water between the cotton fibers. Thus, the softening effect of fabric softeners can mainly be discussed as the prevention of the formation of this cross-linkage.

Abstract The 5’-adenylicacid (AMP-Na2) is modified to introduce unsaturated double bonds for photografting onto cotton fabrics together with L-cysteine (L-Cys) monomer to prepare synergistic flame-retardant cotton fabrics. The chemical structure of AMP-Na2/L-Cys monomers, the surface morphology, residual carbon morphology, thermal property and flame retardant property of photografted flame retardant cotton fabrics are analyzed. FT-IR and 1H NMR spectra verified the AMP-Na2 and L-Cys monomers with unsaturated double bonds. Scanning electron micrographs revealed the carbon residue of photografted fiber maintains a natural curled and fibers shape. TGA showed the major pyrolysis temperature of photografted cotton fabric declined by 42℃, with the weight loss reduced by 21.6%, proving that good charring effect. The continuous burning and smoldering time of photografted cotton fabric are decreased to 0s. The experimental results indicate that AMP-Na2/L-Cys monomers can reveal good durability and remarkable flame retardancy property to cotton fabrics via facile treatment of photografting.
