This article presents the results of analysis and evaluation of the main effects of the implementation of the eight UN Millennium Development Goals, in force until 2015, and to demonstrate differences between and prospects for implementation of the new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, covering 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the international community for the next 15 years. The article also presents the contribution of the European Union as a key global donor of development aid for developing countries, especially for the least developed countries (LDCs), as well as plans for Poland’s implementation of the Post-2015 Agenda SDGs.

Abstract Migration, diasporas and the growth of remittances are key contemporary development trends which impact directly the lives of one in seven persons and often some of the most vulnerable and as such are critical to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda of “leaving no one behind”. Migration is captured in four Goals and five Targets in the SDGs however it is argued that the developmental potential of migration for LDCs is an underexploited asset. The paper offers critical perspectives on the SDGs targets by analysing the impact of remittances (including South-South remittances) and other financial investments such as diaspora savings and bonds. The analysis then focusses on financial innovation through the growth of money transfer organizations in LDCs (i.e. Haiti, Tonga and Bangladesh) and the rise of mobile money. The impact of these trends on financial inclusion and the banking of unbanked populations is then considered. The paper concludes with some key recommendations and insights.

The WTO can play an important role in achieving the UN sustainable development goals. Investments in AI and IoT could go a long way, in that these technologies could lead to economic growth, innovation, good health, and new services. For this to happen, however, they must be adequately governed. This means, practically, that we need laws – and IP laws above all, given their role in incentivising creativity and innovation – that are fit for AI and IoT. As shown above, AI could lead to unprecedented research developments with revolutionary impact on healthcare. They would do so not only by changing the way we carry out research – with AI-powered data mining and cancer-predicting deep learning models – but also by making us rethink certain IP laws. The reference is to the patent system that has hitherto been abused by pharmaceutical companies that have developed strategies to retain perpetual and absolute monopolies on medical inventions, thus preventing access to medicines, especially in developing and least-developed countries. AI could change this. It could, indeed, change the standard currently applied to assess one of the key requirements for patentability, i.e. inventive step. We currently assess if an invention presupposes an inventive step and is hence patentable from the point of view of the ‘person skilled in the art’, a notional worker who lacks ingenuity and has limited knowledge. With AI becoming commonplace and increasingly creative, the new standard to be adopted may and should be the AI-enhanced researcher. Such a person would be more likely to consider new inventions as obvious and this would counter the over-protection of pharmaceutical inventions. Finally, the IoT is set to disrupt all the fields and all the laws that have been built on the good-product and hardware-software dichotomy. Patent laws are likely to be profoundly impacted – and may need a significant revision – because their exclusion from patentability of software may be factually circumvented by the ubiquitous presence of software in any mundane device and at any step of the supply chain. To conclude, IP laws are likely to play a limited role in governing AI and the IoT. It seems more probable that these technologies will ‘govern’ current IP laws in the sense of leading to new interpretation and policies that will make them more ‘sustainability-friendly’.

Objective – Sustainable development is a multidimensional concept and therefore requires a varied, nonetheless integrative approach to decision making, creation of policies and fundraising. The aim of this paper is to bring about the main sources of financing sustainable development, as well as to analyze the role of the European Union in supporting global sustainable development goals. Although the EU has welcomed the new global development agenda, and has an important role as a leading global donor of development aid, in order to meet miscellaneous expectations for development effectiveness, within the region and globally, it will need to further its efforts and make more concrete actions and changes towards the path of sustainability. Methodology/Technique - In investigating possible implication for financing sustainable development, authors refer to previous studies and EU reports. Findings - The findings presented implications that need to be done in order to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. Foremost, it depends on successful development of national policies, their synergy and coherence. Public and private, domestic and international sources have an important role in financing development. While a certain level of government involvement is needed in terms of its strategic role and ensuring appropriate public funds, the existence of a healthy and stable economic and political system in the country is more important for attracting private investors. The evaluation and measurement of Sustainable Development and Well-being represent a widespread emerging theme in healthcare, especially concerning, among others, the concepts of social equity and universality of health from an intergenerational perspective. To achieve such goals, Geriatrics would play a prominent role, especially considering the growing portion of the senior population in developed countries. This work intends to explore the possibility to connect Sustainable Development Goals and dimensions of Well-being to a set of performance indicators which are representative of geriatric activities in different settings of care. To this purpose, a pattern of indicators from Emilia- Romagna Region (RER) in Italy is considered. Furthermore, a range of Transitional Care interventions is discussed and proposed in order to ameliorate (or keep stable) the performance.

The present paper aims to highlight the discrepancies between two countries of the European Union, Romania and Denmark, in the perspective of the Sustainable Development Goals. As Denmark is seen as a primer European and Global nation in achieving the United Nations' targets, Romania can use this example as a guideline on how to act and to obtain the most notable results. The article proposes some key principles that Romanians could follow in order to successfully fulfill the 2030 Action Plan having, as an example, the strategies and indicators reached by Denmark. The current work paper is structured as a review of the two reports that voluntarily summarize the situation of the Sustainable Development Goals in each state, followed by a statistical analysis of investment behavior and concluded with an analysis of the most notable differences between the states based on the dataset published by Eurostat.

The articles aims to substantiate the socio-economic, environmental, historical and cultural role played by green tourism and its contribution to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals based on current innovative trends and capabilities of tourism in the face of challenges posed by the ongoing crisis in global economy caused by the latest pandemic. The objectives of the research were to detail the theoretical, methodological and applied approaches to the development of green tourism, which is a market sector providing travel services. The definition of green tourism has been made more profound through connecting it with the Sustainable Development Goals, which is rather logical. The motivating factors for the development of green tourism have been analyzed taking into account the model of multifunctionality in agriculture and its importance in rural development policy. The nature of changes in the green tourism sector has been identified with respect to the peculiarities of the current global situation, when a pandemic is restraining the world tourism intensity, on the one hand, and is stimulating local tourism, on the other. It is worth adding that local tourism is mostly green and focused on the conservation of the environmental and natural resources, as well as sustainment of mostly rural areas. The research carried out shows that green tourism can become a driving force for economic growth in rural areas, a motivator for employment, a factor in preserving rural culture and traditions in a particular area. At the same time, the results of the research prove the existence of a link between green tourism and national economic, environmental, socio-cultural, intellectual, energy security due to the most typical development priorities of such tourism. On analyzing the experience of the countries that suffered the pandemic most, we have found some prospects for green tourism development. It is a new system of partnership between the state, business and civil society which can become an additional incentive to preserve the potential of green tourism. Thus, strategic guidelines for green tourism development based on institutional priorities, with the current economic crisis challenges in mind, have been designed.

The  The World Environment Conference in Stockholm in 1972 became clear evidence that environmental problems began to be a concern of various countries around the world, including Indonesia. Humans can not continue to exploit environment for resources and landfills. Environmental project management includes sustainable development aimed at improving the welfare of the community, conserving available natural resources, and ensuring the sustainability of the life of the surrounding environment. This concept is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals which are peace and prosperity for humans and earth, for now and in the future. Indonesia is not the only country that cares about the environment in accordance with the goals of the SGDs. Philippines divides project-affected communities into direct and indirect affected communities. United Kingdom has The European Union (EU) biodiversity strategy which aims to maintain and restore ecosystems. Denmark has The Innovation Network for Environmental Technology (Inno-MT) which is a partnership that supports projects related to waste, air, water and soil. This study aims to understand the principles of sustainable development related to environmental project management and its implementation in Indonesia. In addition, the researcher lists the actions taken by other countries regarding environmental project management to get a wider perspective.   Konferensi Lingkungan Hidup Sedunia di Stockholm tahun 1972 menjadi bukti nyata permasalahan lingkungan mulai menjadi perhatian dari berbagai negara di seluruh dunia, termasuk Indonesia. Manusia tidak dapat terus mengeksploitasi lingkungan untuk sumber daya dan tempat pembuangan limbah. Manajemen proyek lingkungan mencakup pembangunan  berkelanjutan yang bertujuan meningkatkan kesejahteraan  masyarakat,  melestarikan  sumber daya alam  yang tersedia, dan  menjamin   keberlangsungan   kehidupan   lingkungan   disekitarnya. Konsep ini sejalan dengan tujuan Sustainable Development Goals yaitu perdamaian dan kemakmuran bagi manusia dan bumi, baik saat ini maupun di masa mendatang. Indonesia bukan satu-satunya negara yang peduli mengenai lingkungan sesuai dengan tujuan SGDs. Negara-negara yang menandatangani PBB juga melakukan hal yang sama. Filipina membagi masyarakat terdampak proyek menjadi masyarakat terkena dampak langsung dan tidak langsung.  Inggris memiliki The Eurpean Union (EU) biodiversity strategy yang bertujuan untuk mempertahankan dan memulihkan ekosistem. Denmark memiliki The Innovation Network for Environmental Technology (Inno-MT) yaitu kemitraan yang mendukung proyek yang berhubungan dengan limbah, udara, air dan tanah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk  memahami prinsip-prinsip yang digunakan  dalam rangka pembangunan berkelanjutan yang berkaitan dengan manajemen proyek lingkungan dan pengimplementasiannya di Indonesia. Selain itu, peneliti mencantumkan tindakan-tindakan yang dilakukan oleh negara lain terkait manajemen proyek lingkungan untuk mendapatkan sudut pandang yang lebih luas

In September 2015, the members of United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with universal applicability of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets. The SDGs are consequential for the development of the countries in the Nile watershed, which are affected by water scarcity and experiencing rapid urbanization associated with population growth. Earth Observation (EO) has become an important tool to monitor the progress and implementation of specific SDG targets through its wide accessibility and global coverage. In addition, the advancement of algorithms and tools deployed in cloud computing platforms provide an equal opportunity to use EO for developing countries with limited technological capacity. This study applies EO and cloud computing in support of the SDG 6 “clean water and sanitation” and SDG 11 “sustainable cities and communities” in the seven Nile watershed countries through investigations of EO data related to indicators of water stress (Indicator 6.4.2) and urbanization and living conditions (Indicators 11.3.1 and 11.1.1), respectively. Multiple approaches including harmonic, time series and correlational analysis are used to assess and evaluate these indicators. In addition, a contemporary deep-learning classifier, fully convolution neural networks (FCNN), was trained to classify the percentage of impervious surface areas. The results show the spatial and temporal water recharge pattern among different regions in the Nile watershed, as well as the urbanization in selected cities of the region. It is noted that the classifier trained from the developed countries (i.e., the United States) is effective in identifying modern communities yet limited in monitoring rural and slum regions.
