Abstract In this work, we present the problem of geo-environmental assessment of prospective areas of mineral deposits occurrence in Poland. T he issue is discussed mainly based on data from the database of Geo-environmental map of Poland, scale 1:50 000 (MGśP II). While for proven deposits a classification based on environmental conditions has been used for many years, for prospective areas of mineral occurrence such an assessment is not conducted. Taking into consideration not only protection of the natural environment, but also protection of mineral resources in Poland, it is necessary to review the approach to areas with prospective mineral resources from the point of view of their role in land use planning. Such prospective areas have - depending on the type of mineral in question, how large an area has been prospected, its geological structure - highly diverse surface area, from just a few to thousands of hectares. T his means the approach to environmental assessments of prospective areas of mineral occurrence must be different from that for already proven locations of mineral resources. The article presents quantitative characteristics of prospective areas of mineral occurrence presented on the aforementioned MGśP II map for Poland. We propose herein criteria for environmental evaluation of such prospective areas, differentiating them mainly depending on the type of mineral, manner of exploitation, surface area and land use legal forms, as well as possibility of future reclamation.

The Servicio Geológico Colombiano has made available several airborne magnetometry and gamma-ray spectrometry datasets. The information was acquired in 15 blocks that cover approximately 520,000 square  kilometers of Colombian territory, representing more than 850,000 linear kilometers of information. The data  were collected along flight lines separated by 500 meters or 1000 meters, depending on the area, with sampling rates of 10 Hz (8 meters) and 1 Hz (80 meters) for the magnetometry and gamma-ray spectrometry  data, respectively. The information is stored in 30 databases separated for each block and for each of the geophysical methods used. The Servicio Geológico Colombiano has provided a web portal that provides  detailed specifications for each database and allows interested parties to see the terms and conditions to  access the datasets and to check possible restrictions on access to information. To date, there is no  geophysical database in Colombia with the coverage and resolution of these data sets, which will be very  useful for geological research and research on potential mineral resources and to support geohazard monitoring, land-use planning and providing a baseline dataset for environmental monitoring.

Abstract Upon accession to the European Union, economic growth became accelerated in Poland, resulting in a boost in infrastructure development. This led to a marked growth in demand for natural sand-gravel aggregates and other raw materials used in road construction. To meet the demand for suitable raw materials, the Ministry of Environment commissioned the Polish Geological Institute–National Research Institute to start a re-evaluation of earlier raw material prognoses assessments in order to delineate prognostic areas for development of new resources. The re-evaluation has been conducted by the PGI-NRI within the frame of the compilation of the Geoenvironmental Map of Poland at the scale of 1:50 000, making it possible to identify potential conflicts with land-use plans as well as already established NATURA 2000 and other natural heritage conservation designations and more or less continuous built up areas which preclude or at least impede exploitation of mineral raw materials. The analyses also covered economic factors related to costs of transport and the current economic criteria of mineral resources and reserves. At the first stage of the project (between 2008 and 2012) the re-evaluation was conducted in 432 prognostic areas with a total area of over 33 thousands of hectares. According to the current economic criteria of sand-gravel aggregate deposits there were estimated resources of over 5 mld tons, of which around 3 mld tons of aggregates were suitable for road investments and over 2 mld tons of aggregates were suitable for construction. The work has made it possible to re-evaluate the occurrences of natural aggregates in the vicinities of urban centers and along corridors delineated for selected planned motorways and expressways as well as those under construction. The study was compiled especially for business entities involved in construction projects or the exploitation of mineral resources and state administrative units as a tool to support land-use planning and management at the level of individual communes, counties (poviats) and voivodeships. Re-evaluated prognostic areas data are gathered in spatial database and are available through WMS service on the Geoenvironmental Map of Poland portal (emgsp.pgi.gov.pl).

The adequate geological support and engineering of production processes requires mining companies to have structural geologists to be in charge for the acquisition, processing, analysis and preparation of geological and related data during development of a mineral deposit, starting from prospecting and exploration and up to reclaiming. In the prevailing practice, geologists of mining and servicing companies are mostly aimed at the appraisal and control of mineral resources while the study of geological structure of a deposit is assumed finished at the stage of prospecting and valuation as arule. At the later stages, geologists focus mainly on the quality and quantity of minerals, and geological bodies are often interpreted without regard to the actual geological structure of a deposit. The structural geology as a branch within a mining company should have a specific development strategy. This strategy is to account for the necessity of the other services for the input geological data, while the applied geological models should be used in mine design and be integrated in the production process. The intending specialists in the allied services should be informed on the available models, their value and completeness, as well as should possess free and intelligible access for operation. Efficient production management and risk control requires close communication between structural geologists, geomechanics, resource geologists, mining engineers, mineral dressing engineers and surveyors.

The study aims to reveal the transition features of agricultural land use in the Groundnut Basin of Senegal from 2009 to 2018, especially the impact of urbanization on agricultural land and the viewpoint of farmland spatiotemporal evolution. Integrated data of time series MCD12Q1 land-use images of 2009, 2012, 2015, and 2018 were used to provide a land transition in agricultural and urban areas through the synergistic methodology. Socio-economic data was also used to serve as a basis for the argument. The results highlight that: (1) Agricultural land increased by 14.53%, with a dynamic index of 1.45 from 2009–2018. (2) Over the same period, urbanization increased by 2.80%, with a dynamic index of 0.28. (3) In different regions, the transition of agricultural land in Kaffrine is most intense (expansion rate: 22.80%). The same situation of urbanization happened in Thiès Region with a value of 7.94%. Except for Thiès, agricultural land in other regions has not yet been subject to major pressure due to urbanization. Overall, the farming system in Groundnut Basin is an extensive model, the recommendations from the point of view of land-use planning and land law are necessary to ensure efficient agricultural land management in the area.
